Exp3 News! (no, not really)
JediMaster replied to FastCargo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
No expansion will come with terrain. He doesn't have a Persian Gulf terrain in any existing title, so that won't be happening. Anyway, I concur that he won't make an Iran-Iraq war. It takes place until after 1982, which is outside where he likes to go, as well as requiring a large new terrain and a lack of a "good guy". That cuts it for WWII and Eastern Front combat, but not in the post-Vietnam world. Korea (whoever makes the terrain!) is a great way to go. Not only does he cover a neglected area (and I agree he'd need new ground, sea, and air AI objects, but NA got those with its terrain as well), but the planes largely are radar-free, so it should be a bit cheaper to make them as there's no lengthy avionics work needed. Then, for those who have the other titles, a merge offers the planeset and ground stuff needed for a USS Pueblo campaign. Tack on a what-if late-70s scenario like SF2E and NA have, and you've got a great 3-era span to a single title. -
The 'Bone' and CAS situation
JediMaster replied to B52STRATO's topic in Military and General Aviation
I don't know, that's hard to say. On the one hand, strikes = bombs going off. That's pretty demoralizing. Low loud passes don't kill. On the other hand, the low passes are indicative of potential strikes, so it's a strike that could come. For some people, the threat of something is worse than the actual event. -
Yes, because Nemo certainly evokes images of icy weather, certainly not, I don't know, the sea?

According to him cockpits are far more expensive than anything except terrains to make, and there I figure the cost is roughly equivalent, so cockpits are only parts of expansions or full titles. Skins are of course cheap, as the DLC has shown, but everything else has been minimal changes at most aside from campaign customizer and the standalone ME release as DLC. Now he could "sub" one cockpit for another plane, as so many of us have done, and as the first gen titles did with making AI-only planes flyable for MP, like the A-4 cockpit that was EVERYWHERE. I guess he doesn't want to sell a plane as DLC that way, though, for fear of backlash at it having the "wrong" cockpit. -
Now you know the joy of hurricane hysteria that we experience every year. The media pounces on even Cat 1 storms like it's going to be Twister in everyone's yard, sending reporters to stores talking about lines BEFORE they've formed (ensuring they will form), filming all-new stories that are just remakes of the ones we've seen 10,000 times before about securing your windows and crap...

LOL, "sorry but your expensive server is out because of a crappy $5 cable, we have a newer $5 cable on order!"

Well TBH that whole "partner" thing was a bad idea. I can see what it was on two levels. First, it was a way to try and ensure exports by getting customers in at the design stage and making sure their needs would be met to one extent or another. Sound idea, but when the US investment is still over 90% of the total, how could it really affect that much? If the US was at 50% or so of the total, I think it would've worked far better. Second, and this is the sneaky part, they did it to try and reduce the likelihood of cancellation. After all, the US dumps JSF and look at all these countries that we'd have to refund money to! Not to mention the whole "it makes the US look bad" aspect. Couple that with the fact that there's NOTHING else in development, and it means if JSF goes the best scenario is a handful of upgraded F-15/16/18 sales that will end by 2020 at best while everyone else buys next gen fighters from other countries. In the end, we've spent non-recoverable money in the tens of billions. If the program is cancelled, not only is that money gone for no results (other than some lessons in R&D that could've been bought far cheaper) but now we have to start yet ANOTHER program (or programs if they decide not to go all-eggs-in-one-basket again) that will easily cost tens of billions before we could get a fighter into production. The chances that program will go any better than this one? I'd say 3720 to 1, the same as successfully navigating an asteroid field. Technology has advanced. Engineering has advanced. Computers have advanced. Management, oversight, and regulations have REGRESSED.

There's the issue of the ads as well. Who knows what he might make off them? -
AeroWings/Aero Dancing (series)
JediMaster replied to gerwin's topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
The only console I owned, before the Xbox 360 I have now, was the Atari 2600...so I missed all these. -
Guess that depends on your tastes in comedy. Have you seen Fawlty Towers? Monty Python? Blackadder is definitely British comedy, it's not American. I don't think it is as good as the best MP could do, although it better than the weakest MP, but it's equal to Fawlty Towers...except the first season of BA which I feel a bit weak. They found the mark with the rest of the series, though.

You should see a young Dr House in almost every episode of Blackadder unless you're not looking! The Hot Shots films did a great job spoofing Top Gun, Rambo, Apocalypse Now, and most of those others. I'm split on whether that qualifies them as the best or not.

Yes, and far easier to land vertically than the Harrier ever could be. It's the USMC's dream come true. Whether this program really should've tried to be everything for 3 different services is another argument, but once they get the kinks worked out (and how long did it take for the Harrier?) it will be awesome for them.

HAL's Rudra Helicopter gets Initial Operational Clearance
JediMaster replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
Oh I see, so the LCH is the AH-1 to the Dhruv/Rudra's UH-1/UH-1 gunship. Makes sense. -

Ok, so then LCH will be a further weaponized version? AT missiles or something? -
HAL's Rudra Helicopter gets Initial Operational Clearance
JediMaster replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
Hadn't heard the Rudra name before, it was always just ALH when I've heard of it. So, that's not the attack variant? It seems certainly suited out for attack. -
I forget, did that one have an orangutan in it?

DCS: Combined Arms V1.2.3
JediMaster replied to Dave's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
It looks like a lot of updating since 1.2.2, I can't wait to try it out. CA has so far mostly just sat unused for me due to its limitations, but I'm a big fan of armor in OFP/Arma and want to do more. I'm not big enough of a fan to get Steel Beasts, though. -
What about Uwe Boll's Grenada epic?

Irans new Fighter - Qaher 313
JediMaster replied to MigBuster's topic in Military and General Aviation
You can clearly see above the right-hand panel or just behind the seat that it's single-thickness fiberglass. Looks like the unfinished inside of a boat. This is a mockup, or it's a UAV that they stuffed a fake cockpit into. If this thing can fly, 300 is indeed its top speed. -
An Interesting Book For Dave and those with a fondness for instant Sunshine...

G? Luxury. I have a D that won't fit in the garage because of that ludicrous fin! -
Well, there are more WWII films than all other war films put together, so that makes it hard. Perhaps we should eliminate some? Like Pearl Harbor, or Inglorious Basterds?

For me, FMJ and AN are the "best" because of their entertainment value, not necessarily due to any realism. Those two have more quotable dialogue than all the others combined.

Exp3 News! (no, not really)
JediMaster replied to FastCargo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
DanW said something like "it's coming" and confirmed the flyable F1, but little else. No AI-only planes that will be in it, no ETA, no other features. And that was long ago, not too long after NA's release IIRC. I think we heard elsewhere long ago it's for SF2E, but I don't know for certain anymore. Now if TK has merely decided to dedicate himself to SFA and SFiOS until resuming Exp 3, that's ok, but you think he'd have written a simple one-sentence blurb (like, I don't know, "I'm working on finishing SFA and SFiOS before I finish Exp 3"?) stating that at some point. Anyway, I'm not holding my breath. If Exp 3 comes, it comes. If not, c'est la vie. -
A-10A and S-300PS Die Trying to shoot it down
JediMaster replied to AvalancheDiode's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
FWIW, I believe the issue is networking. In other words, an SA-9 by itself cannot. However, you put an SA-9 within a certain distance of an S-300 or something and now the SA-9 can intercept missiles too...even though in reality such networking is very difficult. -

Operation Grand Slam? Do you expect me to watch? No, Mr Bond, I expect you to cry!
