  1. Geez, it's going up another $10?
  2. Any plane can win against a superior foe given the right circumstances and a bit of luck. Few MiG-21s are going to get that chance, and if they do it's likely because their opponent made a MAJOR mistake, not because they're that good. It's not an impossible scenario, it's just unlikely.
  3. There's also the ads, who knows what he makes out of that. However, should this not make that much, perhaps it will convince him to double down on the PC side?
  4. The technical things I was fine with. I would've liked better carrier ops, improved wingman interaction, overall AI improvements, weather advancements...stuff NOT related to the actual planes.
  5. Anyone See This Movie Trailer?

Looks nothing like Elder Scrolls IV. How can this be called Oblivion??!?
  6. BSG B&C Teaser

I REALLY wished this would've gone to series. Especially as Caprica was cancelled in sync with the announcement that it was...only for them to reverse that decision once they'd finished this pilot.
  7. I'm hoping we do see an expansion for NA, but 3 was already announced as being the 2nd for Europe...so I guess it was his best selling title pre-NA. Don't know about NA's sales at all, although we do know Exp 2 was a major problem for him with lower than expected sales as well as higher than expected costs. Anyway, I hope Exp 3 (since it's not coming out in 2012 obviously) is a 1Q 2013 release.
  8. gotta love the stupid questions threads

The funny part is there IS no "dark side". A day on the moon lasts a month, 2 weeks of sun and 2 weeks of dark for any given location (aside from possibly the bottom of some craters at the poles). There is a far side of the Moon, and we DO have pictures of it. Here's one from Clementine: When it takes me 5 seconds to Google a pic of it, how can these people find some of this stuff and ask these questions and then fail to find THIS??
  9. We couldn't let the Brits' attempt to get Jedis recognized as a religion go unanswered, could we?
  10. They had lots of launch issues to the extent that they didn't charge for the first 3 months or so. Basically I paid the release price, used it those months, then quit when it went pay. IMO it wasn't good enough for that. Never went back, no idea what it's like now.
  11. So the only difference now between an expansion and a full title is the full one comes with terrain. Both have just 1 new flyable, campaigns, and new AI planes and ground units.
  12. G940 or Cougar ?

I see that just happened in October. I guess 3 years was it. Didn't help that Logitech basically worked on firmware and things for only 6 months then stopped. Well, that sucks. Should my 940 break, I guess I'll have to either find a leftover 940 out there or go CH. I'm not going WH because it costs more and has no rudder pedals, so I'll have to pay even MORE to get those. CH meanwhile I could get the whole setup for $300, just like the 940 cost.
  13. So 21 Dec 2012 Arrived and......

Well, no boom, but my doctor called and told me the CAT scan revealed my stomach pains were gall stones. Waiting for the surgeon to call...
  14. Fixing bugs always more important than adding features.
  15. TK can call it the F-104. He can call it the Starfighter too IIRC. He can call it the F-104 Starfighter. He can NOT call it the Lockheed F-104, Lockheed Starfighter, or Lockheed F-104 Starfighter. Simply put, they consider that "trading on their name for profit." Ubi-clueless-soft made that mistake with Pacific Fighters years back, using the manufacturer's names on the box. They pulled the also stupid idea of eliminating NG's planes as well.
  16. At some point, yes. No idea when exactly.
  17. I'm glad you mentioned they were actually different because without REALLY looking they appear to be the same plane!
  18. I don't know what the plan is, but I can tell you right now everything is manual. Whether the final release will automate, or whether that will be introduced later, I don't know. Worth getting? Depends what you want. It's not SB Pro, no, but I would say it's kind of like FC3 A-10A is to DCS A-10C, where CA is FC3 and SBP is DCS. I got it when it went beta, and I've not done too much because of the aforementioned aiming issues. However, I think once it's final and I get my controls worked out it will be a great addition. As for AW and WB, you forgot WWII Online, Jeff! Or whatever it's called now, Battleground Ops, something like that? Been around 11+ yrs now, and although I've not played it in 10 (!!!) I recall with fondness hiding my PzIII near an airfield and blowing away taxiing Allied planes trying to takeoff before a Char finally found me and took me out. I also remember driving a truck towing a Flak 88 to Dinant to try and help counter Allied bombers. The difference is other than the Battlefield games, no non-MMO game has offered this that I can recall, and of course BF has overly simple modeling (and tiny ops areas).
  19. Frankly, I ignore it. Despite having it since Flanker 1 in 1995, and also in the MiG-29, Hind, and every other Russian sim, I never got used to it. Not that it's wrong, it's a different philosophy, but if you're ingrained one way swapping seems impossible. So, I just ignore it. I rarely fly in instrument conditions anyway in Russian vehicles, they're not the best in night/adverse weather after all!
  20. G940 or Cougar ?

I have both. I stopped using my Cougar as it got old and replaced it with the G940. I already had an old set of TM RCS pedals from the 90s (when I had my FLCS/TQS combo) so that wasn't an issue. The Cougar is great when new. As it ages, not so much. Pots wear out, the springs and throttle loosen up, and it became impossible to be precise. I wasn't going to spend more money to fix it up, and the RCS needed work too. For literally the same money as that would've costed me I bought a G940, which as mentioned was a whole set. It's a hardware defect you might say in that regular use wears it out far too quickly IMO. The pedals in the G940 are a little narrow for me (as I was used to the wide-set RCS for over a decade, but apparently this is the width of most pedals out there), but otherwise work fine. The stick has Hall sensors, no pots, so the stick is very precise. FFB works great, except for the latest DCS World patch which porked it. Prior to that, it was a delight in everything and especially in the Black Shark. The micro-stick/hat, like the thumb microstick on the Cougar throttle, is a pain. Sometimes programs read wrong inputs from them (or rather fail to read that you've centered it all the way), so it can make target designation with either annoying. That's a negative for both that is equal, though, so it shouldn't sway you either way. I compare it to my old FLCS/TQS which had a better one, but is of course hopelessly obsolete now (which is why I bought the Cougar all those years back). The only negative with the G940 IMO is the throttle. There's this dumb dead zone hardcoded into the drivers that makes precision difficult. To be explicit, say you're increasing the throttle and the value is going up 56, 57, 58, 59, 60. Ok, now you want to throttle back. You start moving it and NOTHING. Then...poof! 56. It jumps, it doesn't decrease. You keep pushing and it will now drop normally 55, 54, 53, etc. Until you reverse it again, then POOF 57. The throttle reports that value at the correct spot, so it's not that it gets out of calibration or anything. It merely fails to send the values immediately after you reverse direction. So in my example you could make it jump from 60 to 56 and back to 60 ad infinitum and NEVER get 58, say, if you needed that for formation flying or carrier approach or whatever. Want 58? Push it up to 62 and then pull back, or pull it down to 54 then push up. There is always a gap of 4 when you reverse unless you're at 0 or 100, which work fine. I've learned to live with it. Logitech has been asked multiple times to change this behavior and has refused because apparently they think this is the way it should be. Again, it's not a defect, it's something deliberately coded into either the firmware or the drivers, I forget which, that dictates this. Some people have issues with wires being too tight inside the rudder pedals or throttle, making things like the R1/2 wheels in the throttle or the wheel brakes in the pedals fluctuate at max movement limits, but it's pretty easy to open them up and free up the wires from their overly conservative tie downs should it affect you.
  21. That's not just the HUD, the ASI in the cockpit does the same thing. As for the RWR, all of the Russians use the same thing. Even the Hind.
  22. My main issue with CA right now is figuring out how to aim accurately!
  23. Just Flight Sims....

As soon as I hear a peep I'll make it known. For now, it's just something MS hasn't announced.
  24. Just Flight Sims....

Best I can explain it is by example. Here are links to the 2 versions for F3: http://www.amazon.com/Forza-Motorsport-3-Xbox-360/dp/B002BSA2LQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1355713119&sr=8-1&keywords=forza+3 http://www.amazon.com/Forza-3-Ultimate-Platinum-Xbox-360/dp/B0046CC4R0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1355713119&sr=8-2&keywords=forza+3 You'll see that the Ultimate version, which IIRC came out a year after the initial release, has tons more cars and tracks that were released as DLC for F3 over that year. F3 came out Oct 2009. F3 Ultimate came out Oct 2010. F4 came out Oct 2011. You can see why I was expecting F4 Ultimate a couple of months ago! Instead, Forza Horizon came out Oct 2012. I still believe F4 Ultimate will be out not too far from now, so I'm waiting for that. I only bought F3 while I should've waited and bought the Ultimate version to get the other cars and tracks. I'm not making the same mistake with F4! Besides, I'm not finished with F3 yet despite having it around 3 years now!
