Il-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover Final Patch Review
JediMaster replied to JediMaster's topic in Game Reviews
Yes, I must say the only reason I picked this up again at all was to do the review! I was otherwise unmotivated, especially after reading what I did about coop....- 7 replies

DCS World 1.2.2 Update Released, FC3 Pre-Purchase Released
JediMaster replied to Dave's topic in CombatACE News
Of course, that's not accurate. The number of misses from fired missiles in the last 20 years is far lower than the old Vietnam era stats. An F/A-18 was even shot down by an AA-6 in DS! Something like LOMAC/FC or SF would have you believe your chances of getting a hit with an AA-6 on any plane built after Kennedy died to be like 1 in 1000. I must say I'm a little surprised by this turn of events. You would have thought they'd simply gone this route back at the end of September (after doing it for A-10C, P-51, and Combined Arms). The delay implied when it was released it would be final, not just another beta. Oh well, no matter. -
TW history question

Ah, the old days!! -
Oh, I wasn't even thinking that far back. I guess I needed to think back farther than 150 years for that.

TW history question
JediMaster replied to daddyairplanes's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
The difference is Fubar's wording implies a direct connection between TW and Walmart, but it was Strat First's decision to do what happened. IIRC, there was something about Walmart SKU's and getting it to them by X date and yada yada yada. It was because Walmart was like the #1 PC game source for large areas of the nation (due to communities not having CompUSAs, Best Buys, EB, Gamestops, or whatever but having a local Walmart!) and SF not wanting to risk missing getting SFP1 on the shelves for the Xmas 02 holiday. Walmart makes everyone play ball with them, they play ball with no one. -
Can someone tell me exactly when the British invaded Russia? Honestly I can't recall a single thing. Hmmm...perhaps this: is a little too inclusive? I think the definition of "invasion" used is far too broad.
-
That of course depends on who you ask! Some Democrats in 2000 were quite upset since Gore actually managed to net more votes (just not over 50.01% in as many states as he needed), and I'm sure there are an equal number upset in the GOP today! However, compared to many countries I can't recall a single instance of a "run off" election in the US presidential race, unlike many other countries, so it does save some time and headache there.

Not to mention the F-20's major claim of "almost as good" was negated when the F-16 was approved for widespread export. Had that awful F-16/79 project been greenlit for some allies, I'm sure the F-20 would've trumped it in at least some places. When the regular engine was finally approved, though, not only was the 79 idea canned but the 20's fate was sealed as well.

The 2nd storm that hit us didn't even let us get the power back before it hit. I believe it was 5-6 days later that a massive thunderstorm front came through and did almost as much damage as Andrew before it since everything was already in tatters and held together with string and gum. I knew a few people who actually lost their homes when the power came back. There was unseen damage and when the power returned their houses caught fire. One was away and his house burned right to the ground and he lost it all because of how long it took the neighbors to notice and call the FD in. The damage you don't see can be worse than the damage you do.

Once again, the mechanics of the electoral college rear their head as one wins by a landslide there while only having 25,000 more actual votes nationwide! Because it doesn't matter if you get 99% of a state or 50.01%, you get all that state's votes. So with literally 50.01% of the nation's voters, over 300 to just over 200 in the electoral college. Shades of 2000 all over again.

Like the F-5G/20, the F-18L also never got an order. Unlike the Tigershark, it never got an actual flying model, though the YF-17 was "close enough".

For Herc lovers but especially H(enrik)GBN.... !
JediMaster replied to Derk's topic in Military and General Aviation
IIRC, it does. I've no idea what the normal life would be vs a shortened one by desert ops, but I seem to recall in WWII reading plenty of accounts of pitted ones being replaced early. -
Eh. I'm far more afraid of corporate neglect resulting in massive inadvertent contamination than something deliberate.
-
You have NO idea. The incessant phone calls, TV ads, radio ads, print ads, junk mail... Make all elected offices have a term of just one year and we could shift to a political ad-based economy...

Building a new Su-24 Fencer

Which frankly is more than sufficient. I'm all for accurate cockpits, but some planes can be just fine "making do" with approximations. -
A-10C and BS2 for £15 total!
JediMaster replied to JDUK's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
I'm thinking these are all just codes. You DL from the respective places like Steam, ED, etc. In fact, BS2 is the only thing there NOT on Steam. -
I take it they don't allow open drink containers around during refueling.
-
But that's just it, the defueling IS happening. The point is the reactors themselves (which are never removed during the ship's service) are ALSO radioactive within. I don't know what they do with the old reactors, but my guess is that they're stored somewhere relatively secure, away from the threat of sinking and contaminating the water.
-
Well, the notion that taking out the reactors will irrevocably ruin the hull and flight deck without too-costly repairs for display is certainly understandable. The idea of leaving the reactors in and just sealing them off is likely too scary for the environmentalists.
-
Wow, I'm shocked there are that many still available new. From $43 to $120 in options, too.
-
A ti4200!?!?!? No joke I had the 4400 TEN years ago. AGP is dead. I don't know that you CAN find a new AGP card anywhere. You might be able to buy a used one on ebay if you're lucky. PCI Express replaced it years ago now.
-
Maybe because it can be damned hot on the water and white is cool in direct sunlight?

That is exactly what happened with Hurricane Andrew 20 years ago. Structures from the 60s and 70s, and even before, fared well (when canes were a regular threat and concern) while those from the 80s fell apart like cardboard (as the dearth of hurricanes over the preceding 20 years lulled the residents and construction companies into a false sense of security). The state passed strict new construction regulations as a result. By and large, few homes built in the past 15 years have had major damage from these recent storms. Ironically, about 10 years ago the construction industry was trying to push for a relaxation of the regulations because it was driving higher costs while housing prices were relatively flat. Luckily they didn't get their way, or the new homes built after would've been in major trouble in the 2004/5 barrage. Of course, the housing boom in 2005/6 caused the prices to shoot up so high they made tons of $$ a couple years later regardless.
