"We're not in a 737, are we?"
-
Was that a reserve Tu-22? I notice it's an early 22M model, but I'm guessing this film isn't all THAT old so the late models were already plentiful.

Shuttle Endeavor just flew over Santa Cruz
JediMaster replied to Cason's topic in Military and General Aviation
You mean "going where about a hundred or so men and women have gone before." Atlantis will stay here, taking a roll down the street instead of a flight cross country. -
Razbam DCS: F-15E
JediMaster replied to Dave's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
I wonder how that's going to work? Having 2 different F-15Es in one sim I mean? I guess the assumption will be you'll only get 1? -
3rd Party DCS Modules
JediMaster replied to Dave's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Yeah, MiG-21 and Combined Arms out-of-beta will be the first things post-FC3. They're also the only ones I've got money in. The rest is all "that's nice, let me know when I can actually get it" because I don't have a need to yearn for stuff. -
Well, back then there were a lot more bears, and they walked upright and were quite capable of carrying heavy loads. Having your own bear arms was extremely useful.

So... this new PLAAF stealth fighter...

Yeah, I've heard it's an F-35-sized F-22. -
Vietnam Era MiG-21 top sea level speed?
JediMaster replied to GalmOne's topic in Military and General Aviation
Yes, because lightning doesn't go around corners...as an example. -
The goal as ever is for the elected ones to stay in power as long as possible while lining their pockets and their friends', and lining up good stuff for later should they have term limits or eventually get voted out. Here's an easy question: Name a group of 500 people who on average care more about themselves and less about their country than any other group in existence? Congress of course.

After all, if as many seem to believe that only those who practice the "correct" faith will be rewarded after this life (or in this one as well), how is it necessary to hasten the departure of the "incorrect" ones to oblivion? That means not only are they wrong, but you're depriving them the chance of realizing their "mistake" and converting later. In short, it's passing judgement on them (as of an arbitrary time of my choosing, you're not on the correct path, so you should die) when IIRC most religions claim that right belongs to only one, and that one is NOT a man? Of course, when religious leaders try to brainwash their followers into believing their god "wants you to kill the infidels" and they believe it...

How many died that day, and how many died in the days after of their wounds or infections?
-
Because even back then it was realized that it is far better to put your faith in an ideal than a person. Humans will let you down. Having your oath (and the oath of all said elected officials) be to an ideal makes it far easier to oust the corrupt. If you pledge an oath to say the president, and they do something criminal, you're sort of obligated to cover it up and help them get away with it!

That pictures confuses me! Other than a vague facial resemblance to Veronica it looks nothing like F:NV! Anyhow, just finished putting 150 hrs into F:NV last month (1 playthrough of the main game + all DLCs) and I'll be starting Fallout 3 soon (going backwards...) but I'm eager to hear about the next one.

The course of many battles and wars would have been different if all weapons were picked on their own merits and without politics interfering.
-
You know I'll bet they would've attacked even if they hadn't known he was there. The attacks are likely not that spur-of-the-moment. They're just trying to capitalize on the possibility it would make some people afraid. Notice how every single attack is usually in retaliation for something, whether it was last week or last year or hundreds of years ago? They're always justified somehow in what they do.

What is needed is a tool of mass brainwashing. We need to make everyone on the planet BELIEVE...that there is nothing to believe in. Then the excuses to fight will be more apparent, logical, and dealt with. Oh, they want more land. Oh, they want the resources there. Oh, they're sick of the economic strangulation. No more "I have faith that I'm supposed to hate you and try and kill you...no, I have no actual rationale except that according to my beliefs, some of the things you have done are unforgivable even though to anyone else they're really nothing". The main reason is if people are arguing over land, resources, or actions, there can usually be some accommodation made that doesn't require killing in the name of their god. When your "faith" tells you other people need to suffer, that's when there's a problem, either with you or your "faith."

Well, I think that may hold the record for worst (as in least effective) insult I've ever heard. Crash record? Really? So some politicians are too cheap to care about the soldiers doing what THEY tell them to? This is unique? Might as well next go with "at least the country's name doesn't start with an I and end with an A!!" Or perhaps some reference to population demographics or geographical location?

I remember hearing about this I think the week after HL2 came out!!!

Don't think I've ever seen the aft end of an RA-5 like that before...

The problem is with modern jets SO expensive to develop let alone buy, how many countries can afford to do it anymore?

New Chinese Stealth Fighter F60

They really love those giant one-piece main gear doors, don't they? Anyway, all I can say is...there's more to art class than making copies of the Mona Lisa. -
INS Vikramaditya starts sea trials
JediMaster replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
I didn't think it was possible but they made Vikramaditya sound Russian! Maybe it would be spelled Wekramaditye? -
The saddest part is their leaders KNOW this is BS. They perceive our "open and free" societies intrinsically weak because our leaders are constantly explaining themselves to us. They exploit that to try and hamper our actions. You think they actually like China or Russia for continually foiling attempts to force them down a particular path? No, they're just playing us against each other for their own benefit: see Pakistan's ISI for a perfect example. When you hear Taliban publicly sympathize with the US over frustrations in dealing with the ISI... Quite simply, regardless of our military and/or economic power, they do not respect us. Not our leaders, not our cultures, not our people. They are somewhat at a loss to explain why they are behind us, but it does nothing to shake their sense of superiority and their faith that eventually we will collapse under our own inadequacies and they will rise to fill the vacuum. I can't say I honestly blame them for their lack of respect in our leaders. Our leaders are accorded respect based on their responsibilities, but the people holding those spots usually don't DESERVE it. Sort of like that old film King Ralph, where John Goodman was 57th in line to the throne or something and becomes King when a freak accident wipes out the other 56 members of the royal family. Sure, he got the throne, but did he really earn anyone's respect? Of course, he just fell into it. Most of the politicians sell their souls over and over again to get where they are. Thanks to the Cold War, the US often behaved shamefully when dealing with other countries because the #1 priority was the Soviet Union, and if we aided one of the world's worst dictators so he wouldn't let the Soviets build a base in his country, or let us spy on them from inside his country, that was fine, right? Worked great in Iran, too! In the US, our 4 year election cycle gives the false sense that "everything changes" every new administration, but the reality that the parties don't want you to see (because then you'd never change who you voted for ) is that very little does change, because as Brain said the money doesn't change. It comes from the same places, it goes to the same places, the country follows the same path. There are irregular blips like the 2003 invasion of Iraq, but that's because it was really personal and not business, and the money there was just from people for whom it was personal. The rest of the world isn't fooled, though. They see the name on the letterhead changes, but the country's actions don't. So naturally, since we talk about how we're run "by the people", they feel free to blame every single one of us for everything they perceive that the country does wrong. Since we have no innocents, they can freely target us all.
