Russian soldiers/pilots in Vietnam?
JediMaster replied to MAKO69's topic in Military and General Aviation
Right, that proves a B-52 was lost, but it doesn't prove it was downed by a MiG, a SAM, AAA, bird strike, lightning, or a man on the wing of the plane. -
So is that supposed to be comparable to a 109F? I'm not up on which models the Spanish built post-War.

Russian soldiers/pilots in Vietnam?
JediMaster replied to MAKO69's topic in Military and General Aviation
The only thing that can be proved is which planes were lost on each side. The methods of bringing them down have been debated since before Richtofen's death. Now when either side claims to have shot down more planes than existed in the country of that type, you know they're wrong! But if one side says "10 by SAMs and 20 by MiG" and the other says "20 by SAMs and 10 by MiG", saying one side is right and the other wrong is hard to prove. Not to mention the claims that were in fact based on a heavily damaged plane that managed to make it back to base even though the attacker might find it impossible to believe. However, the US usually puts up tail numbers of lost planes and what caused their loss (which may or may not be accurate, but a loss is a loss). There are also records of how many of each were built and their tail numbers. It's pretty hard to fake having more planes than you actually do. You can't lose 100 more and hide it with that kind of transparency. Given how "open" the NVA and their friends were, it's pretty easy for them to say "we only lost 10" when they might have lost several times that number because who can contradict them unless you have the actual wreckages in your possession? -

New DLC: F-14A skin pack
JediMaster replied to Viggen's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
While I bought all the other DLCs (except mission ed that I got with the expansion), I won't bother with this. I will admit I've never DL'd a skin pack for any plane, stock or 3rd party. Whatever they come with has always been fine by me. Maybe it comes from years of flying other sims where you had only 1 or 2 choices anyway, so I've always concentrated more on the plane than the skins it has (or doesn't have). But hey, if TK can make some money off something simple, fine by me. I just don't want to see this cause any MORE delays in new planes. -
Love, all you need it is.

This wasn't the first time. We can hope it's the last. Why do some people feel it's their purpose in life to try and make people see things their way?

The Su-34 finally looks better than lame. Should've done that long ago! BTW, I'm not sure the Il-214 pic counts when it's a test flight with just primer coat on.

So let's apologize for an accidental passing resemblance of some prop that no one noticed till over one YEAR after it appeared? This was no "statement". They could've made it REALLY look like him and focused more on it if they'd wanted to. This is like seeing Jesus in a piece of toast. Yeah, that's not overreacting at all. The politically-correct crap has to stop.

You get the Assault on Dark Athena sequel to BB? It had BB redone with better graphics, great game as well.

I just love how people love to blame the US for when OTHER people pull the trigger. You are responsible for what YOU do, not someone else. If they "trick" you into killing people, it's your own fault for getting tricked. When the US gets "tricked", it's funny how the US still gets blamed with a "you should've known better." But if the US is accused of doing the tricking, it's ALSO the US' fault. That's right up there with blaming the woman for wearing "slutty clothes" when she got raped. Is it any wonder so few of us hold those anti-US opinions in any esteem whatsoever when it's nothing but "the reason THIS situation is the US' fault is because..." over and over? Non-stop "the US should take responsibility for..." while no OTHER country "has to"? Look at Libya. We sort-of intervened, and got a bunch of sort-of criticisms back. On the one hand, we shouldn't have because Al Qaeda will move in! But on the other hand, we should have done more because of Gaddafi's evil! Trying to blame us for both not doing enough soon enough and doing too much all at the same time. It's idiotic and we're tired of it. Frankly I think the US should pull out of everything everywhere and let the world burn. Everyone else knows better when the US should or shouldn't intervene in something, and it's pretty much always 100% opposite of when we DID. Let's watch China and Russia and the UK and France and Germany go help all these countries and stop the evil groups. Like when the US ignored Sudan but the rest all stepped up...oh wait, did they NOT do anything about that either?

Actually, she was really one of the only low points in all of DE3. I find most RPGs have 10x better writing/voice acting than FPS games where it's an afterthought at best. The KOTOR and ME games from Bioware and Obsidian were good. Seems the more "mainstream" they want the FPS game to be, the worse it is. Homefront was pretty bad in that respect, as were the GRAW and R6:Vegas games. Last FPS games that did it well for me were the Monolith ones, like FEAR, AvP2, and NOLF.

It seems that it takes just as many games to decide who wins the Cup as the length of the regular season in other words. "Ok, the 30 games of the regular season are over, now just 32 more games in the finals to decide who wins!" How bad does your team have to play during the year to NOT make the end?
-
BTW, is it me or do the games in this series leading to the end last just as long as the regular season does in the first place?

help on my problems Strike Fighters 2 Series
JediMaster replied to tetete's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I'd focus on the textures first. Lowering them should be the first thing you do. Frankly, Intel's video has always been sub-par prior to the integrated video on the Sandy Bridge-series CPUs. Now it's merely slow, no longer totally inadequate. Your GMA 4500 was always poor. -

Likewise setting yours at Hard will result in differences from the AI's behavior as well. -
For me, usually I just want better graphics and improved (over the previous version, not modern-day HAL) AI. Hell, for some old classics just give me the SAME game with a modern update! I'd pay full price for "Ghost Recon 2012" being nothing more than a DX11-enabled remake of the original, maybe with the caveat of seeing the gun in FP instead of just a crosshair. Other than that (ok, maybe get rid of the pointless banter at the start of each mission that just seems WAY lame) I'd be fine with it as-is! Yes, there are lots of lame gamers who do just that...whine that the game is either too similar or too different (a lot like how people will be with film sequels)...but I think those are people who think it's cool to complain. Can't risk letting anyone know you like something unless it's old. So X is crap until the sequel, then X was good and the sequel sucked. But I ignore their opinions, they're not informed, just whiny.

INS Vikramaditya starts sea trials
JediMaster replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
It's supposedly a co-development deal (another article made clear that PAK-FA was NOT a production-ready model, but just a prototype...more X-35 than F-35 or YF-22 than F-22A) so hopefully for their money they'll get something decent. Sometimes I get the feeling that Russian organized crime runs their defense industry. I know there's corruption, but sometimes it seems more like outright extortion. -
Ubi will do what it's always done...make games that it thinks people wants apparently based on reading goat entrails or something. Doesn't matter how well a game sold, the next game "has to broaden the appeal" by making it as much like the next game as possible.

INS Vikramaditya starts sea trials

The sad part is how long it took. It should've been in service long ago. That carrier was literally being built when the USSR collapsed, and after wallowing about for years India bought it but it's STILL taken forever to get it going. It's like Russia looked at it like a great welfare program for its defense shipbuilders, but didn't want to hire too many. So instead of getting it done in a few years, let's have 1/4 as many people as we should on it and just give them jobs for a decade or so working on JUST this. -
Looking for a good racing game
JediMaster replied to suhsjake's topic in Racing Simulations General Discussions
I like Race 07 and its expansions. The one is called Retro and it has these: 1968 Volvo Amazon 1972 Volvo P1800 ES 1971 BMW 2002 1968 Mini Cooper S 1971 Opel Commodore GS 3001 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL 1974 Chevrolet Corvette 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Not sure why the C&P put that in there, it was since it was outta Steam I guess. Race On, GTR Evo, STCC, WTCC...there are a ton of cars and tracks in them. I have GT Legends installed as well. Haven't had GTR2 installed in awhile, but might get back to it. Oh, you can tweak the setups but there are no "new parts". It's more a classic racing game. -
Maybe it's me, but I put this up there with Fighter Ops putting up a Kickstarter campaign. I can't remember how many years ago I saw GB's first announcement. All this time later and I guess it basically had less than 1 guy working in his free time? I say that because TK is 1 guy working full time and in the amount of time GB has been "in development" he's released all his SF2 titles...maybe going back to WOI and earlier even. So, I have no faith in them at this point. I might care if I knew this was going to happen.
