JediMaster replied to wasted's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
That's the biggest problem I have with flying Il-2 now. Some of the textures are so low-res that they yank me out of the game and into critiquing it! For example, the engine cowling in that Ki-45 shot. -
Yes, calling it Total Recall was certainly a mistake in that regard. It's like if they did another adaptation of "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" and once again called it Blade Runner.

May 2012 Avionics60.dll causes stutter, confirm?
JediMaster replied to Bossco82's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Glad I've not patched yet! -
Are you talking about Hell Freezes Over? Geez, that album was almost 20 years ago now! Anyway, two things happen to singers: they either get old to the point that they no longer sound as good, or they die. No middle ground there.

That's a misconception. This has nothing do with the 1990 film. This is the Dick short story "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale" re-adapted. So no Mars (which wasn't in the short story) for one. Like the 2005 War of the Worlds wasn't a remake of the 1950's one, it went back to the book and took its own spin.

US Navy Fires Off Its New Weaponized Railgun
JediMaster replied to FastCargo's topic in CombatACE News
Too much $$ to run. BBs are also slow and vulnerable compared to modern surface vessels, and while they could take more damage, modern equipment is more delicate. So what good is a BB that can still sail and fire its guns if all the gizmos are out? -
Russian soldiers/pilots in Vietnam?
JediMaster replied to MAKO69's topic in Military and General Aviation
With the US using front-line equipment there, there's no way Soviet spies weren't present to get what they could. Either from POWs, wreckage, observing tactics, etc. You don't just rely on the NVA to pass that stuff to you 2nd-hand. As for how much they actually FOUGHT there, that's open to debate. They WERE there, though. -
It can carry the AGM-88, but I'm not sure about the specialized electronics the F-16 usually carries (that enabled it to supplant the F-4G...mostly) that lets it fire them with more precision. I don't think the E has those internally nor can it carry that pod outside. Likewise the EA-6B I think fires the 88 more accurately than either Hornet.

Swedish Air Force Show (Pictures)
JediMaster replied to JonathanRL's topic in Military and General Aviation
I don't get it myself. My guess is many find Sweden too "left leaning" for their tastes, so perhaps that colors all dealings, but personally I see no more reason for that than I do US-Indian tensions. I'd rather have India as a friend than double-dealing Pakistan! Frankly I think the Gripen would've been a great F-16 replacement, especially with the F-35s long-delayed gestation, but of course even with a US engine and maybe radar and cockpit stuff the odds of the US buying a Swedish fighter are none and zero! -
IL2 1946 help please?
JediMaster replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
However, the patches released in the last few years are ALL for Il-2:46. If you have the old Il2:FB+AEP+PF merged setup, sorry. Good news is 46 is cheap and adds a lot of new planes and maps. -
"Anyone played this Strike Fighter game yet?" LOL

Wow, the Draken's nose-high attitude on landing is quite remarkable! Those tail bumpers must be quite worn. Actually, the funniest thing to me is your referrals to the Blackhawk, perhaps considered one of the most mundane things the US flies due to their vast numbers and ubiquitous presence. I was once on a trip in Islamorada or Marathon, one of the Florida Keys, just going down to the beach and there was a US Customs 60 parked on the grass next to the parking lot and the crew in one of the gazebos there eating lunch. Frankly, their glossy black and gold scheme I find the most attractive scheme of any 60. -
Too bad about the G8. I always thought the 2000 lacked imagination.

Also, saying "go in the house" is one thing. It stated the guy's wife and infant were getting out of the car or something? You know that can take several minutes to accomplish, and a dog running straight at you can be there in just seconds. I suppose he could've tried a warning shot into the ground in front of it first, but maybe again he didn't feel the time was there.

I think Scott backed off calling it an Alien prequel because perhaps some felt it wasn't close enough to seem like an Alien flick. I also don't know that there's any of the actual Alien in it! Sure there's Space Jockey, the ship, the company, the androids, the universe etc, but if you don't have that egg/facehugger/chestburster/drone thing, is it still Alien? They took the easy way and tried to have it stand alone.

Yes, the cost to fit the new carriers with full cat gear was spiraling upwards, and it became cheaper once again to get the B (along with B getting out of its development hell that it had been in). I never heard they would "share" a CV, they were going to share a common design. I can't imagine time sharing an aircraft carrier! The logistics would be so difficult.

Russian soldiers/pilots in Vietnam?
JediMaster replied to MAKO69's topic in Military and General Aviation
Hole =! hit. One bullet hit can cause multiple holes from ricochets, debris, entry/exit hole, etc. So I can imagine 6 bullets causing say 30 holes. -
Well, it may cost him $1000, but at least his family is safe. To not do anything for fear you may have to pay too much $$ for it? No thanks.

After over 400 hrs, I finally uninstalled CoH and its expansions last year. Had to spend time on the newer games! I keep meaning to reinstall GTR2, but I have only so much time I can race, and with the ones I have already going I know I'd never touch it.

Rosie the Riveter Mrs. America of the Greatest Generation

My grandmother was a line supervisor at Lockheed overseeing P-38s if I remember the story correctly. She died over 30 yrs ago, though, and I never got to ask her anything about it. -
1 Day Memorial Day Sale on all SF2 Titles
JediMaster replied to SkateZilla's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
No, Steam is the worst for me. I buy a game, and regardless of the price or when I get it, it not only will go on sale in a short time for less (or even much less), but generally before I've even started playing the game! So I literally got ZERO out of buying it sooner! That said, Amazon and Newegg have done it to me as well. -
Cannon Sound?
JediMaster replied to ThunderWeasel's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series Modding/Skinning Chat
I think there are some sound mods out there, but my attempts at LOMAC modding ended before Flaming Cliffs 1 came out. Since then, I only mod the SF1/2 series and I leave my other sims stock. -
You guys really want to bring this up? Ok, I'll bite...you'll be sorry! I currently have installed (no flight sims in my list despite having like a dozen installed): Arma 2 w/all addons and many mods Dead Island Dead Space 2 Dirt 3 F1 2011 Ghost Recon w/both expansions GT Legends Race 07 w/all expansions from GTR Evo to STCC 1 and 2, blah blah blah Hexen 2 (old school!) Quake 1 (really old school!) Just Cause 2 Mass Effect 3 Men at War: Assault Squad (still have to install the Vietnam one) Portal 2 R6: Lockdown Red Orchestra 2 Serious Sam HD: 2nd Encounter Sins Trinity Sins Rebellion Beta SW: Empire at War w/FOC expansion Supreme Commander 2 LOTR: War in the North Theater of War 2: Kursk 1943 R6: Vegas 1 And the one I've spent a lot of time in recently, Shogun 2 w/Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai and other DLC I think that's all of them. And yes, I've played almost all of them within the last 60 days except the 2 R6 games and ME3 which I got yesterday in Origin's 1-day 50% off sale.

A sale on things I already have! Typical. -
Cannon Sound?
JediMaster replied to ThunderWeasel's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series Modding/Skinning Chat
LOMAC's sounds have always been a weak point. I've just learned to accept it.
