F-35 to replace JASDF F-4Ejs
JediMaster replied to SayethWhaaaa's topic in Military and General Aviation
Reread the history of the F-2 and you might rethink that "end of the decade" prediction. Harpoons are very long range, you don't need to get close to launch it. If you're NOT launching one, though, the F-35 can get a lot closer than any F-4 or F-16. -
Well it's official

F-35 to replace JASDF F-4Ejs
JediMaster replied to SayethWhaaaa's topic in Military and General Aviation
On what do you base this statement? Other than it being slower in top speed than most fighters other than the Hornet, how is its performance inferior? It won't be seen regularly carrying a ton of external fuel tanks for one. It can carry more missiles if it carries them externally, if stealth isn't as important. If it is important, it's stealthier than other gen 4/4.5 fighters, so how is that a problem? How can a 5th gen fighter be inferior if by definition (of 5th gen) it has to be superior? Unless you want to weight such as variables as cost, where it's built, and its name as more important, that is. -
That didn't last too long, did it? Has it been 2 years or just one? I can't recall. Anyway, if they want to compete with the new SW:TOR juggernaut, they had to do something.

This just in: flyable Tomcat cut, all other features will be in! -
Oh no! They have stolen the Illodium Q-32 Explosive Space Modulator!

Other than saying "if we could get F-22 we would take it in a second", they've been pretty coy so far.

possible to install Exp1 over Exp2 ?
JediMaster replied to squid's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Actually, I thought if you re-DL'd all the installers as of this month or last month you no longer have to worry about install order, that TK had fixed that problem? If you're using the original installers from when you bought them, then no it won't work. -
FO has been in development since before what is now known as Il-2:Cliffs of Dover was. To give you a time frame.

It was just one .PBO file, there wasn't much to it. All I can think is maybe your game is patched to later version than the PBO still works with? Any way you could reinstall OFP at an older patch level and then install RH and THEN patch? I last played RH before Resistance came out, long before Arma1, so other than atrocious voice acting I remember little else of it.

It's fun getting stuff for my kids, trying to find stuff for everyone else just blows. The stuff I get is usually ok, but I can't recall the last time I got an "Oh wow". Did I mention in 10 years I've never had even 1 week off around Xmas, let alone 2? When I'm lucky I get to take a couple of days off before (like this year, the 22 and 23). Time off from work AND getting paid is IMHO the greatest gift there is, and I get far too little of it, especially around this time of year. Oh, one thing I can't STAND is this "war on Xmas" crap. If the thing is EVERYWHERE, how exactly is it being suppressed? Who cares what the employees at a store say to you when enter or exit? "Hi" and "bye" are fine for me.

I'm sure it will be as good as most of Pixar's other stuff. -
I like the "Complete" series of mods. This is a big disappointment, though.

That looks like one of those backpack UAVs they have for ground troops.

Well, TBH if the indie game is "Mildly Annoyed Birds" then YES, it is a pity! -

As long as one of the targets besides GODDAMNEVILCOMMBUILDINGSDOTTIR is BJORKSEVILDEMONHOUSE I'll be satisfied with Iceland. -
Iran displays captured UAV
JediMaster replied to rotarycrazy's topic in Military and General Aviation
Yes, looking at that video now it just feels wrong. It looks more like a low-budget Hollywood prop of a UAV. So perhaps they'd built a mockup based on what they could learn off the internet, perhaps as a way to try and get a good RCS from it, and then we lose one to a glitch in their territory. Someone comes up with the idea of making a grand charade and claiming they have it intact instead and film this thing as "proof". One DID crash (I've seen conflicting reports as to whether it was confirmed as a 170 or not), and it was admitted the Iranians got to it before a decision could be made on whether to try and retrieve or destroy it, but that doesn't mean it's intact. -

The comments are hilarious. -
There's no question on their training if they are attacked on their own soil. However, as the US started learning during the 91 Gulf War, there's no substitute for actually doing it where things you never thought would be an issue turn into real problems. It's not the "what do you do when you get outflanked" type of combat experience I'm referring to, it's more the "how do you resupply if bad weather sidelines an expected transport drop" type of experience. Excercises are generally tailored to working on a particular area leadership feels needs work or emphasis, the "full up" ones that have everyone working together as if it was real are rare due to costs and the drain on active resources (ie you don't want to be vulnerable to an attack because your forces are all training on the other side of the country). Then you have all the extra wrinkles working with allies in a deployed location possibly thousands of miles from your supply depots. If Sweden is serious about being part of that club, they'll have to invest in rectifying all the shortfalls they identified over Libya as well as do it more regularly. After all, one thing all militaries know is that just as you fix the problems to help you win the last war, you've got a whole new set of issues for the next.

If they really did gain control of it remotely, or at a minimum cause it lose contact with base, they really need to boost the comsec on that thing.
