  1. Like I said, sometimes you need stealth and sometimes you don't. Weapons are precise enough now that it only limits the number of targets they could attack, not dictate whether it is destroyed.

You wouldn't send a stealth plane against a column of tanks anyway.

  2. They don't really know how much they'll cost in mass production, but they will be more costly than the current generation. As to how stealthy they are, no one knows that that's allowed to say! They should be the 3rd stealthiest plane out there after the B-2 and F-22.

As to how much they carry, sure, internally they carry less than any other plane out there, but they can also hang weapons under the wings, just like the F-22 can. When you don't need to be as stealthy you can let it hang out and be a bomb truck.

  3. Yes and no. They are making 3d camcorders, yes...which will be able to record REAL things in 3D. There's just no way to film a 3d movie and make it playback. You'd have to sync the camera precisely with the film for one thing, have it flicker at 24fps or whatever they use...no, that won't happen.

The problem is the stupid studios jumping on the 3D bandwagon with conversions that don't work and films that don't need it. Jackass 3D? Really? Why not The Horse Whisperer or Munich in 3D?

They should leave 3D for the action-oriented films alone, but even then it won't always work.

  4. LOL, no! The F-22 is dead. No one but the US will get any and the line is shutting down soon.

No, the answer will be F-35s. Note that Israel has F-15s and F-16s. Egypt has F-16s, Saudi has F-15s, Jordan has F-16s, Kuwait has F/A-18s.

After Israel gets F-35s, if those countries ask (and can afford it...ok other than Saudi which of course can) I'm pretty sure they'll get F-35s too.

  5. Well, let's face it a lot of the 3rd party plane work was done years ago for FE1, the release of FE2 consisted mainly of porting those over. I can't recall a single new-build airplane or terrain made for FE2. Besides Peter's FM/AI mod, there's not much tricky about modding FE2 to a great spot.

I think people are spending more time flying it than writing about it.

  6. I don't know, I felt the GI Joe flick had less to do with the old cartoons than Transformers did, not that I think the 2nd film was great or anything. However, I do have both of those on Bluray while GI Joe was just a rental!

Maybe the casting of the bad guys just left me flat. Oh, and half the good guys. Not bad actors, I just didn't think I was watching the characters I knew. Transformers bypassed a lot of that by creating new characters other than the major Autobots and Decepticons, whose characters were pretty spot-on.

  7. As backup, yes, but they're not allowed to take exclusive control (as in pulling over the dumbass you mentioned by themselves and cuffing the guy or engaging gangs without police presence) off base.

We have both off-mainbase locations that are our purview (not just housing) and also a main public road (A1A) that is actually on-base. There's some sort of dual-jurisdiction agreement there so the cops don't need to wait for the SPs to show there to do their thing. Pretty much the only thing I ever see them doing there, though, is handling crashes at the main gate where someone making a left onto base and someone going past attempt to defy physics and occupy the same space at the same moment in time.

  8. Well, a sequel depends on how well a film does. If it doesn't live up to expectations, you get nothing. For instance, The Chronicles of Riddick was meant to be concluded in a 3rd film, but it didn't make enough so Universal dropped that idea over 5 years ago.

Of course, Twohy has made some noise about getting the 3rd film made, but it sounds more like an attempt to repeat the 1st film than continue on from the 2nd. Hard to say though as production has yet to even be scheduled.

  9. Technically military bases aren't state but federal land. Think "US military embassy". So the police don't have exclusive jurisdiction, but there's always some agreement there.

AFAIK, the MPs cannot pursue off the base as that is solely the purview of the local police.

  10. The difference is integration. Unlike previous planes (except the F-22, which I'm not too sure about) where every piece of equipment lived by itself to some degree, the F-35 has extensive networked integration between all its components. Swap out the RWR and there's a lot of extra work getting it to function right. It would also require the source code AFAIK and probably a lot of high-level knowledge of how the whole thing works. They might instead wind up with a next-generation airframe and engine that is dumb as a brick and incapable of flying in combat.

In short, to assure their "independence" from any US interference would require so much more effort than on any previous plane that it's a serious issue as to whether they want to replace their F-16s with it. Hence the discussion about instead a small "deterrent value" silver-bullet force that would be used when necessary but wouldn't be the sole platform the IDF relied on. So if some theoretical US "grounding switch" was flipped or we cut off spare parts for something on them, they'd still have a sufficient force of other planes to fulfill their defense requirements.

  11. No, you can DL and use the patch just fine. When OA came out there was some SNAFU where it re-DL'd the entire game (it didn't just DL the changed files, it did EVERY ONE) that took a couple of hours, but that was it.

I thought Steam had the 1.05 version now anyway, what does it say in the corner of the main menu when you start ?

I know people using beta patches with Steam, too, it doesn't care. So far I've seen no "must have" mods, just things that are nice to have. The problem with extra units/weapons/skins type of mods is that you have to make a mission to explicitly use it, they won't just appear. The stock campaigns will only use the stock stuff.

There are other "game changing" mods that alter things like the HUD, recoil, injuries, etc, but that's more preference, there's no obviously superior way. The British forces addon is due out this month or next, I forget.

  12. As with any "sport" there are people who take things way too seriously, the "winning is the only thing" mentality that simply doesn't apply unless your life is on the line.

This thing has been done in one form or another forever, including Laser Tag and cap guns for kids playing cowboys and indians in the past.

However, I can't imagine spending as much on some of those airsoft guns as they cost. Very pricey.
