  1. I think Aussies generally feel threatened by many of their neighbors for simple geographical reasons. Indonesia, India, and China alone represent close to 2.5 billion people, while Oz is a huge land mass with what, 200 people on it? They fear one of those countries deciding Oz looks like lebensraum and coming in to take it by force. Unlike most other nations, Oz can't export onto the world market one of its most precious resources...space.

  2. It's sort of funny to credit them for something that was nigh-on impossible for them to do given the technical abilities of the times.

However, there's one good rule of thumb...if your shot consists of only 1 ship there's a larger chance of a nebula of some sort being in the frame to help break up the monotony. If there's a larger number of ships, the chances of there being a simple starfield go up with each extra ship added.

  3. The funny thing is their answer there gives no reason as to why BFBC1 wasn't on the PC.

Was the PC less powerful then? Were they NOT a former PC-only dev then? They only wanted BFBC1 to be shared with a limited number of people before? They totally evaded that last "when you failed" part of the question.

  4. Well DCS itself was delayed for years because of their other work. Then they decided that DCS was more important as it would be a product that would bring in revenue while a LOMAC patch, let's face it, won't cause anyone to go out and buy LOMAC/FC anymore. It's more a "faithful customer reward" than anything else.

  5. If it was just one of them, I'd say it was a fluke. I'd have to say after using Russian software products for over a decade now that it may instead just be a cultural thing. They may honestly just not think of these issues in the same manner as we do, hence they'll upgrade things like graphics and flight modeling whilst in other areas there has been no change whatsoever...after all, why would they try to fix something they didn't think was broken? I also don't know what the disconnect is, let alone how to resolve it.

  6. Let's not forget CoD only succeeded because of MOHAA's success back in 02, which gave IW the ability to make CoD1 in the first place.

However, it's not at all unusual now for a dev or publisher to take a series created and profited off of PCs and move over to consoles and pay lip service, if that, to the new PC versions.

  7. Boeing and LockMart are in the same group as Saab when it comes to having to deal with that issue. That gives the MiG a considerable boost in this competition, yet at the same time the pricing issues with the whole Gorshkov deal may well counter that.

Only the Typhoon seems to have none of these political downsides, but I'm not sure it's proven multirole enough for their requirements plus it has yet to have an AESA enter production (another requirement) while most of the others have.

  8. This isn't a unique issue for them. I've noticed many Russian developers seem to be engineers only...they know how to make the software work to do what they want it to do, they just miss what the public at large wants the software to do.

Not to pick on any one of them, but I don't think I've seen one Russian sim with a decent UI. At best they're serviceable, at worst they're almost impossible to use.

I think what they need is a Western consultant that they LISTEN to. You know, they should program the way they're best at, but they need to look at things that aren't going over so well and ask for some help there. Maybe contract out the UIs to a Western programmer? Perhaps a discussion on the marketing side about not only how to get people to want to buy their product but how to make their product something people want to buy!

  9. Let's face it, LOMAC is an old sim now. Hasn't even had an update in years, the last was a compatablity fix for SF for Vista released not long after Vista was. However, Wags did list a 1.13 patch as a "to do" along with A-10 for DCS, so who knows?

I still fly it on occasion, a few times a month. Although I prefer flying the F-15 in the TW sims, the A-10, Su-27/33, MiG-29, and Su-25/T are still top notch, especially the 25T.
