  1. Some of the Ka-50s switches are for offensive systems I wouldn't expect to be on a KC-135. Besides, aren't the KC-135s running around with far older cockpit designs anyway? That said, the procedure conceptually isn't that obtuse--batteries -> systems -> APU -> more systems -> one engine -> 2nd engine -> kill APU -> even MORE systems...etc

I have many mapped to my HOTAS so you don't need to click around that much in the cockpit if you don't want to.

  2. I think 2002 was the last good year for it. We had LOMAC, Il-2 + expansions, CFS3, SFP1, etc.

Since then we've only had mods to old games, F4:AF (which is itself really a mod), EE2 (ditto), more Il-2 expansion, MS FS releases (now gone), and TK's follow-on releases.

The only bright light has been DCS: Black Shark and the upcoming DCS releases, along with SoW:BoB (whenever THAT comes out).

Not to belittle TW's sims, but if you didn't like SFP1 you won't like WOI or SF2. That's what happens from using the same code base for every release. Of course, LOMAC and DCS are in the same boat pretty much!

There are other new ones on the horizon, but it's not like 1998/99 when there were more flight sims released for the PC than there were FPS on the PC in 2008!!! Halo was the death knell of FPS on the PC, BTW. It proved a mediocre game could sell like mad on a console and everything shifted to there.

  3. I will say having used iTunes as well as WMP and the software that came with my Creative Zen and some of the wife's earlier MP3s I do NOT care for iTunes much at all. I prefer buying songs from Amazon anyway. Unfortunately the wife bought a bunch of protected WMAs from Walmart.com and the ipod won't go there. So we have to re-rip the CDs we burned of them, losing quality in the process.

What does it mean when a song has a ! next to the number? It seems to mean "You're not getting THIS on there!!"

My Zen has the best software for loading stuff I've tried, it's just not entirely stable. Sometimes I'll click to open a folder and it just shuts down! No errors, just like I clicked close.

  4. I don't have or need a PDA, but my wife does. Her Palm (her 2nd) is now pretty much dead as well as the first, so she's looking to replace that. The ipod touch pretty much CAN be a PDA with contacts, maps, email, etc, so all she needs now is a new phone.

I personally do not like the idea of "all your eggs in one basket". I would never want to worry about my cell phone's battery being dead because I listened to the MP3's too long! PDA + phone is fine, PDA + MP3 is fine, but I don't think I'll ever go for MP3 + phone. Especially as where I work you're not allowed to bring cell phones into a LOT of places so I'd rather it be a cheapo one if I have to leave it in the car or a box by a door.

It looks like the iphone and ipod touch have a lot of apps that run on both. There are some crazy ones out there! Again, the wife just got hers so she's not looked thru them seriously yet.

  5. I guess a full pardon maybe not, but I'm sure time served was likely sufficient for the penalty for those offenses. The difference of course is I believe a full pardon removes the conviction from your record, so they're no longer felons? If falsifying/suppressing evidence is a felony, then that should stand.

  6. I think women tend to hit stationary objects (like walls, fences, buildings, parked cars) more while men tend to have accidents with other cars more. That means more people are involved in the men's accidents and that makes the cost higher.

A car itself doesn't cost that much. Medical bills and litigation cost a ton.

I also don't think there's necessarily a dichotomy between the number of bad female and male drivers, it's just that the bad female ones tend to do stuff like this that's publicized for its entertainment value while the bad male ones are involved in more straightforward collisions that are old hat and not worth watching.

  7. I do both equally. Since my first air combat sim was F-19, where you did both equally, I've always done both sides.

The only exceptions were in WWI sims (which had little to no mud moving) and F-14 Fleet Defender. I've even shot down other helos in Black Shark with my gun (and that was NOT easy at all!) even though mud moving is the main priority there.

I just love air combat in all its guises!
