I think we could use the Sukhoi SS bomber more than a trainer, but I'll gladly take either.

Start a multiplayer server and you can fly all the MiGs out of the box. You just can't fly them without modding in SINGLE player.

I'll add to the wingmen crashing thing. I've seen it as well, and I notice if you turn on your autopilot to land you automatically it will instead smash you into the ground well short of the runway. In short, it flies you far too slow. Not sure why, but there you go.

Smaller than a 767? how big is a 777 or a 787?Smaller wouldn't be as capable as KC135 in tanking though, right?
What is the Air Force requirement anyway?
You may not realize how small a KC-135 actually is. It's dwarfed by a 767. The 787 will replace the 767, but it's obviously not ready to be made into a tanker any time soon. The 777 is even bigger than the Airbus by a good bit as well.
Anyway, the protest will happen no matter what, hopefully the USAF got its crap together well enough that it won't take too long.

It's a big, heavy, expensive plane. You don't replace MiG-21s with Su-30s. They want something smaller and cheaper for that role. Of course, if it's not cheaper, it better be a lot more capable. The Su-30 is capable, but it's still not a "next gen" plane. The Typhoon, F-22, F-35, and Super Hornet are all more modern. The Gripen is probably on par.

Those things usually aren't classified "secret" but "FOUO"--for official use only. In other words, it's not against the law to release the info, it's just not good for your career.

85? That's a significant number, more than I would've guessed.

The design is old, but it still works perfectly for the mission. Like the UH-1, it's still in production.

Oddly enough, I also had stir-fried chicken last night from a wok. However, the rice pilaf was NOT in there, just a bunch of veggies which the wife ate all of.

Those are what we call "real numbers."

What does splat means?Take bag of jelly and drop it from the roof of a building onto the ground. THAT is a splat.

It's being studied as a C-130-sized replacement for the mid-century I think. They might get it to work, who knows?

Also known as the "rail gun".

That large dish looks vulnerable to being hit by bullets itself. Or worse yet, an RPG.

"Just take off and nuke 'em from orbit, it's the only way to be sure!"

We have trouble with the 135 fleet being stretched too thin right now because there aren't enough! They need them in more places, not to carry more where they are. In fact, if there was something smaller than a 767 available I'd say THAT would be probably the better bet.

Yeah, it's more designed to the spec the B-1A was then the B-1B we put into service, but I'm sure its RCS is closer to a B-52 than a B-1B!
As for numbers, I had a book or something that talked about it and actually had two line diagrams superimposed so you could see the relative sizes (wings swept back), that's where I got the size comparison from.
Let's see what numbers I can find:
B-1B:
L: 146ft (44.5m)
H: 34 ft (10.4m)
W: 137 ft out, 79 ft swept (41.8, 24.1)
Empty weight: 190k lbs (86k kg)
MTOW: 477k lbs (215k kg)
power: 4x 30k thrust GE (13.5k kg)
range: 7500 miles unrefueled, 3500 with normal payload (12k km, 5600km)
Tu-160:
L: 54.1m
H: 13.1m
W: 55.7m out, 35.6m swept
Empty weight: 110k kg
MTOW: 275k kg
power 4x 25k kg thrust HK-32
range: ~12k km
So, from these rough numbers the 160 is just over 20% longer, 33% larger wingspan unswept, 48% larger swept, 25% taller, 28% heavier, and similar range without refueling.

External tanks or not is determined by the loadout ini for that plane in that role. Plane X on "strike" may have 2 external tanks and 2 bombs while Plane Y on "strike" will have 12 bombs and no tanks.
To alter that you'd have to fiddle with the loadout ini for each plane in each assigned role.

Well, in "Real Life" you need a station specially setup for AIM-9's because of the cooling lines for the seekers. That's why it can't carry them on its belly, nor could the F-4 or F-14.

More like "which company will be filing its protest over the award this week?"
I think neither plane is ideal. The 767 is too old to start with NOW and the Airbus is too large compared to the 135s it's replacing. We won't be able to get enough at that size.
-
I don't think I'd classify the 160 as "1/3 larger" than a B-1B. It may be 1/3 heavier, or carry 1/3 larger payload or something, but the dimensions don't add up to that. Maybe 15-20% larger max...

The one you listed for WOI? I was flying it in SFP1, so I didn't think that would work. I also noticed a slow roll rate, although the pitch rate seemed fine.
