  1. Some people don't understand violence and think you should never respond with violence, even if it's in response to violence upon yourself. That's a nice theory. However, that's not the world we live in.

If you don't respond, you are weak and invite more attacks. If you do respond, you are suddenly the violent aggressor because the first attack with violence can always be rationalized as the "only" method of retaliation for some other type of attack. It's all reprisals and retributions going back thousands of years and no one cares who started it anymore.

  2. Also, consider this. WWII was the first war using radar. It was used from the beginning, in the BoB and onward. Planes began carrying it and being able to detect it by mid-war. Yet not ONE WWII sim I've ever played had planes with radar in it.

    Why?

Because I'm sure they didn't want to be bothered, that's why. Nothing classified about it, nothing hard to find out about it, they just thought it would be too much effort for too little return.

  3. Perhaps they lived shorter because of disease? As War of the Worlds mentions, we've spent millions of years adapting to the viruses and bacterias that live here. Maybe those dinos just didn't have immune systems quite as strong and they died from injuries or illness far more often than old age.

  4. I just looked, and I'm right out of parrots.

I see. I see. I get the picture.

    I've got a slug.

    Does it talk?

    Not really.

Then it's hardly a replacement then.

Look, if you go down to my brother's store in Bolton, he's got one and he'll be happy to replace it.

    Bolton, eh? Very well.

    *goes to Bolton*

    This is Bolton, is it?

(with a fake mustache) No, it's Ipswitch.

    That's inter-city rail for you.

    *returns*

    I understand this IS Bolton.

(still with the fake mustache) Yes?

You told me it was Ipswitch!

    It was a pun.

    A PUN?!?

No, no...not a pun...What's that thing that spells the same backwards as forwards?

    A palindrome...?

    Yeah, that's it!

It's not a palindrome! The palindrome of "Bolton" would be "Notlob"!! It don't work!!

    Well, what do you want?

I'm not prepared to pursue my line of inquiry any longer as I think this is getting too silly!

  5. There are also the "illegal" kills that took place across a border that shouldn't have been crossed. I once knew a guy online who'd killed a MiG...but it wasn't NVAF or over Vietnam, so he didn't get official credit since no one wanted to antagonize China too much and make a repeat of the Korean War.

  6. Ironically, it should be easier to model the modern fighters than the ones from the 80s and 90s. After realizing there was serious pilot workload overload, planes like the F-22 and F-35 are being designed to be more like the sims we played in the 90s with "god's eye radar" turned on.

You designate the target, choose the weapon (maybe that is even done for you based on range to target), give the authorization to fire and the weapon goes when the time is right. No worries about slewing this or activating that or remembering the right sequence. Point, click, and shoot.

I think TK could do that easy right now with his engine. The targeting boxes could simply be on your HMD. The only real change is the new jets can do AA and AG at the same time without changing radar modes.

The rivet counters are immaterial, anyway. Give me a sim where it FEELS real, where real tactics work and the enemies act real, and that's enough. Sure if I can't break Mach 1 in an F-15 I'll be annoyed, but whether you're going Mach 2 or 2.5 in 5 mins or 8 doesn't really matter to how you fly and fight, the whinerealism people to the contrary.
