Help ThirdWire!
DoctorQuest replied to column5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The only one I have not purchased has been SF2. I have SF2E, SF2V, SF2I and the Exp. Pack. I have the entire SF1 series. I also have FE, FE exp pack and FE2. TW is the only sim vendor I use these days. Too much DRM elsewhere. -
How to save missions?
DoctorQuest replied to Fortiesboy's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Interesting.... Can you cut and paste the section in the manual that describes this? I'm with usafmtl. I did not think it was possible with series 1. -
I had Yeager's Air Combat but I agree that the "Aces Over" sims really sold me on sims. I've been a Strike Eagle junkie since the first iteration of that sim. I still play Jane's F-15 on my Win98/Voodoo3 box. I recently found my Strike Eagle II floppies and was happy to find it runs GREAT under DoxBox. Boy, did that bring back some good memories. "Nice Hit!!!"

Harpoon Commanders Edition...
DoctorQuest replied to Slartibartfast's topic in Naval Combat Information Center
I like it, too. It falls somewhere between the original Harpoon and Fleet Command in terms of accessability. -
What software when making 3d models?
DoctorQuest replied to xclusiv8's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I think you're pretty well restricted to 3D Studio MAX. There is a plug-in for that product that will produce the LOD files required for the TW sims. 3D Studio MAX is not cheap. That being said, you probably could find a cheaper alternative for the actual modelling but the software would need to produce files that could be imported into 3DS MAX and you would need to find someone WITH 3D Studio MAX to export the model in LOD format. -

What is the best way for 2nd install of WoE
DoctorQuest replied to spitfire007's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
There are a number of articles in the Knowledge Base regarding this topic but basic answer is that you can simply copy your WOE program folder to a different folder and install ODS into the new folder. You will want to make a shortcut to WOE.EXE in the new folder (maybe give it a new name so you know it's ODS.) TW sims do not populate the Windows register with any critical information so you don't need a formal install process to get a new copy. Keep in mind, though that your ODS install will not show up on your Start>Program list unless you manually put the shortcuts there. -
5.99. Can't beat it.

I know it's easy to be a Monday morning Windows admin but I've learned as well. You cannot have too many backups. We all feel your pain and good luck with the recovery.

1948 War for Independence Campaign
DoctorQuest replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
Let me know if you need some help. I am working up some Spit vs. Spit missions just to see how they play out. Makes for some interesting A/C recognition problems. -
1948 War for Independence Campaign
DoctorQuest replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
Understood. I was not sure of its status as it is available at CA. Yes. The B-17 would be a very nice to have. What about a publicly available Spit pit? (I'm still not clear on the status of this.....) -

Where Do I Find the Options.ini File?
DoctorQuest replied to JimBeamer5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
If this is an SF2 sim they are located in your My Documents\Thirdwire folder. And the folders are created during the first execution of the sim. -

Is My System Going To Run SF2?
DoctorQuest replied to JimBeamer5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Yes, you will be fine. I have been doing a lot of performance research with SF2 given my system is rather old at this point. P4 2.6 GHZ 2 Gig ram XP Geforce 6200 512M First off, I had some serious performance issues with the latest, greatest video drivers. I get much better performance using older 81 level drivers. The fact is that given the same settings with SF1 and SF2 sims I actually get better results with SF2. You need to keep in mind that there are a couple of settings in the OPTIONS.INI that can only be modified there; they are not available in the OPTIONS game screen. CloudDetail will kill a machine like mine if it's not set right. (I use 0). AntiAliasing is also set in the OPTIONS.INI.
