A shout out to the techies here... I am shooting a very weird problem with memory on my Presario. I recently replaced the power supply btw. When I install BOTH sticks of memory (512M total) I get errors in Memtest. When I run with only one stick (either one in either slot) I get NO errors. They are, as far as I can tell, identical 256M sticks of Kingston memory. Could I be having a problem with the motherboard where communications between the two memory slots is porked? I really can't think of anything else. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks. Kirby

Is there a peformance thread in the KB?
DoctorQuest posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The recent thread on increasing FPS got me wondering if there is a "performance" thread in the Knowledge Base? I have been poking around and could not find one. I've been around long enough to know that your mileage may vary based on configuration but we have a lot of smart folks around here and it might be worth centralizing what we DO know. Just a thought...... -

Works for me! -
The plunge - have you taken it ?
DoctorQuest replied to Syrinx's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I skipped SF2. I have and enjoy SF2V and will most likely get SF2E. I know it's only $20 but I have other priorities at the moment. I may stick with WOI as is. I do not mod it and really only fly it as a replacement for Jane's IAF. -
Um, like most of the recent commercials for the series have been, like, huge hints, dude!

Single aircraft purchases?
DoctorQuest replied to column5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I would most definitely pay for a fully functional (given availability of unclassified info) F-22. Same for a SR-71. Same for a Tornado. Probably the same for an F-14. (Great cold war stablemate of the F-15). The point being, yes, I would pay for "study" aircraft that accurately simulated the specific avionics of that aircraft. -
SF2E also does WW2

This is really good news. The AVH guys are maniacs for accuracy and the TW sims might give them an even better platform for their work than the MS sims did. -
Strike Fighters 2: Europe Screenshots (flyable plane list, new features and goodies)
DoctorQuest replied to tn_prvteye's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
While I will agree that there is great information there I am not sure it has been updated for SF2. I, for one, was extremely frustrated by the lack of information regarding the move of the aircraft files from the root program folder to the users My Documents folder. The other frustration is that EVERYTHING has been packaged in CAT files unlike the original titles. The SF2 CAT files are in a new format that requires a different utility to extract (found in the downloads section.) Hubertus, you might want to look through the articles in the KB (remembering that your new aircaft will go in you My Documents\Thirdwire folder) and then stop back with specific questions. -
I've always appreciated how Carradine matured into someone who didn't take himself too very seriously. RIP, Grasshopper.

How does the forum search work?
DoctorQuest posted a topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
I can't for the life of me figure out how to use the forum search. No matter what I do I always seem to get pages and pages and pages of topics completely unrelated to my search arguments. I am trying to find out if there ia a topic that addresses improving the performance of campaign missions in Operation Desert Storm. My rig just simply cannot handle the number of aircraft and other objects that are included in most missions. Can I tweak the campaign parms so I don't get missions that are quite so "busy"? -

Thank you! Those hints are helping to narrow down my results. I have already been narrowing my search to a specific forum. -
confused over add-on aircraft downloads section
DoctorQuest replied to Roach's topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
You might run through these topics in the Knowledge Base forum... http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showforum=174 Beyond that, yes, there are issues with some aircraft and the patch level of the particular sim. -
What's a Highspeed stall?
DoctorQuest replied to i fight by 1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
If I understand your question this might help.... http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/airplane/incline.html Basically a wing can stall at any speed given a high enough angle of attack. -
OOO RAH! Semper Fi, Carry On...

As another long-time Trekker I thought it was well worth seeing on the big screen. I may try to see it again on IMAX.

Caught the launch in the break-room at work while I was making my lunch. Always fun. I'm jealous of my daughter. She got to see one in FL while she was doing her college internship. Been a space-freak since the Mercury missions.

Some of you may have encounter this document. A very good explanation of how we got Red Flag and lots of good information on the F-4. http://www.airforcehistory.hq.af.mil/Publi...SierraHotel.pdf From a larger collection of Air Force pubs available here.... http://www.airforcehistory.hq.af.mil/Publi.../titleindex.htm Enjoy!

Is it still worth buying Wings Over Vietnam
DoctorQuest replied to WLJet's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Agreed. Unless you want YAP2 I would even go for SF2: Vietnam. A quality product for 20 bucks. And the community is already full-bore on getting freeware add-ons working with it. -
Le Missionneur: Where i can download it?
DoctorQuest replied to Flegmatica's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I downloaded it just a few days ago but I cannot get back to the site. I suspect there my be a problem with the website. PM me and I'll see what I can do to help. -
Where is the new SF2 folder structure documented?
DoctorQuest posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I did not see it in the readme or manual. I've been struggling for hours trying to figure this out. I have only purchased SF2: Vietnam so I did not get any information that may have been provided for SF2. I understand the Vista issues. I just don't understand why the folder changes were not documented somewhere. -
Where is the new SF2 folder structure documented?
DoctorQuest replied to DoctorQuest's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well the fact it exists in the first place. There is no documentation telling you where to go to make changes to the controls folder for instance. I do not run Vista. Saying SF2:V was updated to run under Vista means nothing to me. Just a little frustrated. This could have been put in the readme. -
I understand some of the logic in that we have been fighting two wars in which an aircraft like the F-22 really does not have a role to play. We are getting more use out of drones and choppers, for instance. Yes, from a "I love airplanes" perspective I hate to see the F-22 die but I'll have to admit I'm not sure where it fits in today's conflicts. The F-35 might just be a better use of our money. The bottom line is that this defense budget is STILL bigger than last years.

best sim for F-22 and Eurofighter?
DoctorQuest replied to shinobi2204's topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
FreeFalcon 5 takes a shot at these but is a little limited in terms of avionics. You need to have Falcon 4.0 to install FF5. F-22 ADF and F-22 Total Air War are probably the best sims for replicating the real F-22. The FM is somewhat simplified but who knows how an advanced FBW plane would respond anyway :) Super EF2000 is still probably the best study sim of that aircraft. The problem is going to be finding copies of Falcon 4.0, TAW and SEF2000. -
RIP.
