New US Aircraft carriers anyone
DoctorQuest replied to MigBuster's topic in Military and General Aviation
I would be more worried about them bumping into things. -
I use SimHQ mainly due to its F-22 TAW community.

I look at it this way. I do not have the time or talent to contribute to this community through modding. I'm not rich, but this is a major hobby for me and the price of a modest membership is really nothing compared to what I've spent in hardware, etc. to enjoy simming. If my membership helps the community by keeping CA going it's the least I can do. What DOES F**KING PISS ME OFF is being asked to pay $4.95 a month to Yahoo to listen to the Kansas State football webcasts.......(I'm not going to. I'll suffer...)

Is Yankee Air Pirate (YAP) still available?
DoctorQuest replied to Hobbes57's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I would settle for an explanation of the differences between the two. -
Generally, you should install the OLDEST OS first. So you may have an issue booting XP if you install it AFTER Vista. You can work through these if you are familiar with the BOOT.INI file. There is also a utility called VistaBootPro mentioned in a couple of MS articles but I have not used it. (Don't have Vista.......) Do a search on microsoft.com for dual boot or multi-boot. Lots of good info to be had there. Installing on separate drives is a good idea.

LOMAC: Your Opinion
DoctorQuest replied to Feuerhund's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Yes, I would say it's good. I will not fall over myself like some folks in calling it the greatest flight sim ever developed. The simple fact is I have it and it is probably one of my least played sims. Just gets OLD after a while. -

I just don't know what to think about this one..... I am a huge fan of the book and the first movie and was very interested to see what they would do with this. I can't say I was impressed. Certainly they did a good job updating the techology of the Wildfire facility and it did help the story to see more of what Peidmont went through but the wormhole and conspiracy theory stuff went outside the lines IMHO. I have not poked around much but I really wonder what Michael Crichton thought of it. Anyone else see it?

Agreed. I am getting very tired of this story. Just f**king retire, already!!

Anyone else have issues with FSD International?
DoctorQuest posted a topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator
I purchased the T-38/C-17 combo from these guys and have been trying to reinstall the aircraft on my gaming computer. The first thing I discovered is that they do an internet based check everytime to try to fly the T-38. If you don't have an internet connection it pukes. (I recently decided to turn off the internet connection on my gaming computer if I don't need it.) Shades of StarForce...... The real problem appears to be the fact that whatever FSD uses to validate "you are only installing on one computer" does not work very well. Every time I tried reinstalling on my gaming computer their log shows a "different" computer. They started off sending me an asinine condescending email saying "we can see you are installing on multiple computers HA HA HA" but as I said, I only have FS2004 on one computer and that's the one I'm installing to. I have sent a couple of follow up emails (some nice, some not so much) but have yet to get a response. Anyway, my recommendation is to avoid these folks if you can. I have had much better luck with other payware providers such as Abacus and Shockwave. -
Good Times Ahead
DoctorQuest replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
MOM!!!!!!!! Dave's head exploded again! Dude, you gotta learn to BREATH between post readings. -
Agreed. Does anyone know if TK can release the avionics stuff he used for the Air Force F-22 sim? We have a very good model now courtesy the modding community. If we could just get the proper avionics and maybe a bit more accuracy in the modelling of steath we would have a real winner on our hands. Same this could be said for the F-35.

The problem with Black Shark is that it is an extreme niche product. ED could have picked any number of other aircraft to model and they pick one that I, for one, have absolutely no interest in. I understand "there will be more aircraft coming" but what will that mean? Do you need BS first, etc.? I have and enjoy LOMAC (skipped on FC) and I've finally gotten it to run OK but I still think it performs poorly compared to other sims. And let's just say I'm not a big fan of ED to start with and leave it at that. The reality is that I fly FS2004, TW sims and F-22 Total Air War more than any others. TAW is dated but it still does a decent job of modelling the F-22. I don't based my enjoyment on the amount or quality of eye candy.

http://www.historynet.com/able-dog-was-the...-ever-built.htm I am a fan of Aviation History magazine and this month featured a nice article on the "Able Dog". This is the internet version of the article. The printed version also included a sidebar story about the infamous "toilet bomb". Fun stuff.

I haven't really gone back and done the research but I find it kind of odd that Obama and McCain were not the "media darlings" early on in the campaign (way before primaries started.) I'm not sure having those two as candidates mean the system is working properly (some Democrats are complaining about the DNC "fixing" primaries in favor of Obama) but I am not sure the media are really in control of anything, either. And, remember folks, this is not new. The effect that William Randolph Hearst had on swaying national opinion on the Spanish American War is a good case in point.

Any that are not political in nature. Couple of these I've seen around here just make my a** weary.

What Sim Is This?!
DoctorQuest replied to Fubar512's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The graphics are impressive. What I find even more impressive is the fact that the community has been allowed to extend these sims far beyond their "out of the box" capability. Some other sim devs could learn from this. -
