Swing Wing Mirage - Heresy
drdoyo replied to lazboy's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I agree totally! The middle looks very similar to a MiG-23. -
Interesting Constant Peg Photos
drdoyo replied to Nicholas Bell's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
There is another possibility for the magnification, never having sat in a MiG-21 myself to be sure. The magnification effect could be an optical illusion caused by the camera. Just another of those things that get captured on film that you don't really see sitting in the seat, like the propeller on a Cessna. A friend of mine was in the back seat of a P-51D that he worked on (Shangri LA owned by Vintage Fighters in Clarksville Indiana) and was takeing a picture of a P-40 from dirctly underneath. Both he and the pilot/shop supervisor were amazed when they looked at the photo. You could clearly see the pilot's helmet reflcted on the P-51's canopy imposed over the P-40 belly as he looked up to maintain position on the P-40. Neither of them saw the reflection on the canopy at the time! -

F-22 for Wings Over Europe
drdoyo replied to SkyStrike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
There are screens posted by those building the 3D and Flight models. Really it doesn't matter much if it's SFP1, WOV, or WOE, they are all after being patched to the current level one and the same engine, with WOV and WOE having a merged install capability. Once one is familiar with the workings one can also put all 3 games into a single install. So, as for the F-22 and other modern birds, we'll all just have to wait until they are finished and released by their makers. -
wingfold in mid air
drdoyo replied to ravenclaw_007's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
As for the F-4, like Typhoid said, brute force. That F-4E is also lightly loaded, and Air Force pilots don't make it a habbit of folding the wings. Ours were only folded when they were brought into the hanger for phase inspections, and even then not always. -
Some one should make the S-3 have a tanker pod
drdoyo replied to N.Forsythe's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series Modding/Skinning Chat
Do you have the 03 Jul 06 weapons pack? There is a Douglas Refueling Pod included in that pack which is included in the S-3B_loadout.ini. The unfortunate thing is the game engine neither supports Inflight Refueling, nor are the maps big enough to require IFR. -
He Said Something About My Mom
drdoyo replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
uhhh, Hey Dave, is that a new F-15 pit? If so, all O can say is WOW, if not, I guess I've been sleeping. -
Congrats!! Keep going with it. I remember my first solo. Butterflies all the way to the runway, and a good runup to make sure all was well. Then I had to get on with it. Pompano Towar cleared me for takeoff, and I taxied out onto the active. As I pushed the throttle forward the butterflies went away .

The crew did a great job bringing that one back! A more proper title would have ben "difficult landing" as opposed to "hard" lol. I don't understand why you say "boom damage" though. It looked to me like they dumped that fuel on purpose to minimise the "BOOM" factor when the nose started making those sparks on the runway.

More Flankers!

There are LGBs, but I found recently that there is no Kh-41, I had to use an AGM-84A for a place holder -
Where to find a SU-27
drdoyo replied to delta6's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks Fubar. But, I never got that pack myself. I didn't even own a thirdwire sim until last September. I'm not really sure where I did get the sound but it had to be in one of the other more recent addons that I downloaded. -
Where to find a SU-27
drdoyo replied to delta6's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
X Ray, I think I just found the answer to your problem. I've had this problem myself with the GSH301, and in frustration redirected the sound callout to a modified cannon sound that I made. I was just looking through the folders to sort out some menu music and found the file "SOUNDLIST.INI" in the FLIGHT folder. Mine didn't have an entry for the GSH301. Check yours. I added the following SoundFileXXX=GSH301 <==== replace the XXX with the next number in sequence then add the following at the bottom of the file [GSH301] Priority=NORMAL Looped=TRUE NumBuffers=4 3DSound=TRUE DopplerEffect=FALSE MaxDist=1000.000000 MinDist=50.000000 InsideConeAngle=360 OutsideConeAngle=360 ConeOutsideVolume=0 This got my GSH-301 sound working properly. This isn't mentioned anywhere that I've seen in installation instructions or the knowlege base, and for those who do this sort of thing regularly it becomes something that is easily overlooked in installation instructions, especially as long as this sim has been around and modded -
Guns are overmodeled?
drdoyo replied to Luiz Carlos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
yeah, What Jedi Master said. IIRC, modern US fighter guns put out from 1000 to 6000 rounds a minute (ballpark figures). Break that down and thats 16 to 100 bullets a second leaving the muzzle. -

drdoyo replied to Marcfighter's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
And that was nessessary for the Harrier, the only bird that shipped form the box to use vectoring. As for the Sukhois, personally I'd be happy to have them despite the game engine limitation due to the fact that modern soviet strike capability compared to the US is practacally nonexistent in the game.
