  1. n00b threat posture

Wait a minute, The normal noobcon level is BLUE? Maybe you guys could do something to give TSA a clue with the never changing ORANGE!
  2. Guys, Spillone104 hit on the answer to your problems. Your 'newer' guns sound files must also be added to the soundlist.ini or they will not be recognised. It should be in the Flight folder, if not warm up those cat extractors (I'll give you a hint here, FlightData.cat about 3/4 of the way down).
  3. When did you start modding...

I got started in 1999 with Janes F/A-18. I had done some slight retextures to increase immursion such as a dark navy blue nonskid for the Reagan's deck complete with tiedowns which I shared with my online squadron. I was interested in seeing a squadron skin for the Sea Dragons VFA-107, and was ...lol volunteered in a perfectly military mannor to make it. The result.... I continued meagre skinning in Janes FA-18 and ended up with an entire airwing for the Reagan. After I bought CFS2 I started resknning aircraft that I didn't entorely like the markings on, mainly the F4U Corsair. This is where I really got hooked and have been skinning some sim ever since. I even made a BE-1900D panel for FS2004 so I could practice in the airplane I was tlying at the time.
  4. Just a question here. Are you guys going to utilize some of those extra animation keys TK gave us with this one? It'd be nice to have a working tailhook visual as well as an opening canopy. Either way, I'm looking very forward to this one.
  5. F!*&!# Amazing

Damn, how I miss working on the Phantom! It was never boring watching them fly the break to landing! When they lined up on the runway, you could always feel the power through the air when the afterburners kicked in. I even heated a few MREs using the exhaust during the pre taxi checks when we deployed for Coronet Oak. Ahh the memories!
  6. F4-E in the news

Ahhh, that's just snow built up in front of the windscreen where the nose cuves down towards the radome.
  7. I would be very cautious and consious of installing this into WOE. I suggest you know exactly what is being changed in the 'flight' and 'menu' folders before attempting to install this, and make sure you back up any folders affected by this mod before attempting to install it. Personally, I was unaware of this mod and have been wanting to make Soviet and Chineese awards for a couple of campaigns I've been working on so this will save much time and research. Thanks for the link Shaolin!!
  8. With the AUG2008 patch, the AI actually does escort!!! Harrier Campaign in WOE with Aug 2008 patch applied wow
  9. Same here as FastCargo. I have a 1995 campaign from the red side working just fine. Honestly it's actually quite a challenge. And then lets not forget the 2007 campaign Final Dawn. I've flown and modded that one many times over.
  10. Hey SidDogg, just curious, are there any more VFA-22 skins in work for the super bug? lo-viz and CO?
  11. File Name: FA-18F VFA-103 Jolly Rogers File Submitter: drdoyo File Submitted: 25 Aug 2008 File Category: F/A-18 VICTORY IS AT HAND!! This is a reworked VFA-103 Jolly Rogers skin set. This skin is a merging enhancement, and expansion of the VFA-103 skin using SidDoggs cleaner skins combined with the original Super Hornet release skin (some decals retained) and with new decals by me. I'd like to thank the following -TK and Third Wire for creating a wonderfully open sim. -The CombatAce Staff for being the anchor for this community -InSky for their F/A-18F model, skins and decals -Siddogg for letting me use his 'cleaner' skins as a basis for my work * VFA-103 The Jolly Rogers: Into the future with Super Bugs In December 2004 Carrier Air Wing 17 finished it's deployment with USS John F Kennedy and the F-14B Tomcats of VF-103 were sent to the bone yard at Davis Monthon AFB. This was a sad time for anyone who has a heart for the Tomcat. However, as has happened many times before in Naval Aviation history, including Jolly Roger history (F4U Corsair, F6F Hellcat, F-9F Panther, F-8 Crusader, and F-4 Phantom to name a few) reality weighs anchor and moves on. VF-103 was redesignated VFA-103 and began training for and recieving the F/A-18F Super Hornet. In 2005 VFA-103 left Carrier Air Wing 17 (AA) and joined VFA-143 (Pukin) Dogs F/A-18E AG 1xx, VFA-83 Rampagers F/A-18C AG 3xx, and VFA-131 Wildcats F/A-18C AG 4xx in Carrier Air Wing 7. VFA-103 took on the AG code and returned to the 2xx modex numbers. In October 2005 CVW-7 began workups for deployment, and in October 2006 headed for the CENTCOM AOR aboard USS Dwight D Eisenhower. for an 8 month deployment. VFA-103 and CVW-7 had a very sucessful deployment. * Included are the Carrier Air Wing 17 (AA tailcode) hi-viz and Lo-Viz colors,as well as the Carrier Air Wing 7 (AG tailcode) hi-viz and lo-viz colors. *** YOU WILL NEED ( READ REQUIRED ) -Insky's F/A-18F model (These ONLY work with this model) here --> http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=7043 -My modex numbers installed in your games Objects/Decals folder here --> http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=3922 **AT THE VERY LEAST install (if you havn't already) the numbers set 'USN-NUM_ONE'(for AA tailcode) and 'USN-NUM_TWO' (for AG tailcode) from my modex pack OR YOU WILL NOT have numbers at all on the 'AA' jets or the hi-viz 'AG' jets, and only the tail numbers will show on the lo-viz 'AG' jets. 12. And if you havn't gotten enough info yet Wrench, JET A is roughly 6.7 LB per gallon. If you want to convert that.
  13. Beautiful!! Now I can change VA-86 to the TMF A-7E in the Harrier Campaign
  14. Looks really good Ed. Ed's correct, you usually don't hear thunder from the airplane. However when you do get hit by lightning it sounds and looks like one of the old Polaroid camera flashbulbs going off.
  15. The game only needs to have the entries in the data.ini to have a functioning tailhool. As JA 37 Viggen said, there needs to be some kind of lod to have a visable tailhook. If the tailhook is not built into the aircraft's 3D model and animated there however the visual part will not move, but is still functional through the data.ini entry. So basically if the game text is saying it is lowered, it will work.

  17. Check the dates, AttachmentType, pylon limitations, nation (of the weapon -v- aircraft), export availability (I've had situations where I couldn't get, for example, Phoenix on USN Tomcats in Germany until I changed the export value to or above rare) and model names.
  18. 300 miles, That's one leg for me at work. It's just over an hour, and we're plenty busy most of the way. As for the game I prefer to fly it all the way. I despise air-starts and skipping /compressing. Wether or not I take on the long flight depends on what kind of time I have available. Sometimes I go, sometimes I don't. I do get sick of the repeating nearby (within 30 miles) CAS missions in a recent campaign though. I've actually started avoiding them to an extent.
  19. File Name: F/A-18F VFA-107 Sea Dragons File Submitter: drdoyo File Submitted: 10 Aug 2008 File Category: F/A-18 * First I'd like to thank the following -TK and Third Wire for creating a wonderfully open sim. -InSky for their F/A-18F model -Siddogg for letting me use his 'cleaner' skins as a basis for my work VFA-107 Sea Dragons was a Janes FA-18 online squadron. We flew together weekly from the release of Janes FA-18 in 1999 until 2003. I had a lot of fun online with VFA-107. I had painted a squadron skin for the Janes model (an FA-18E) but I was never happy with it. Now, with a game of more open design, and better models and processing power I'm able to rework my original squadron colors into a more realistic and satisfying rendition. Credit for the original 'Dragon' art design which I have also evolved goes to the squadrons' then CO "Deadly". * Included are the standard Lo-Viz colors, the Suqadron's 'Boss bird', and the CAG colors. *** YOU WILL NEED ( READ REQUIRED ) -Insky's F/A-18F model (These ONLY work with this model) here --> http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=7043 -My modex numbers installed in your games Objects/Decals folder here --> http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=3922 **AT THE VERY LEAST install the numbers set 'USN-NUM_ONE' from my modex pack or you will not have numbers at all on the low viz jets, and only the nose numbers will show on the flashy AC. 20. I see dragons,.....SEA DRAGONS. 'First in, Last out' VFA-107 I did the skin work for my Janes F/A-18 squadron back around 2000. They were ok, but with the limitations of the game's modding ability, and limited detail on the models I was never totally happy with the final product. Third wire, InSky, and Siddogg have allowed for a much better rendition of that work. When the first pics of the Super Hornet model were displayed I started working on a remake of that skin from Janes. This is it. The low-viz The boss And the CAG I should have these up soon
  21. Does this mean I don't have a chance of getting Daves permission to include his SU-17 model in an upload for a 'what if' attack jet I've been working on for months? Basically, I modified the SU-17 into a carrier based attack jet for the Soviet Navy. I gave it increased lift qualities just like they did for the Flanker and MiG-29K, modernized the loadouts and targeting capabilities, and added a more effecient engine and more economical fuel burn, and tailhook functionality. I also made new skins from scratch. I'm going to need ArmourDave's permissions though, as well as Gepard's (I started with many of his inis from the SU-22M4), and paladrian (I modified his cockpit)
  22. When I was with the Indiana Air Guard and during our first ORI (Operational Readiness Inspection) in the F-16C we had a pilot over G his aircraft. The F-16 was over limit for it's loadout by 1 G. We spent the next 2 days replacing stripped nutplates and sheared rivets on the bottom of the wings in the stress areas. Aircraft can be pushed beyond their loading limits and still come home, but it doesn't mean by any length that there was no damage done.
  23. Well guys and lady, I know sometimes I can seem to be harsh or come off in a manner that I never intended. I do not intend to be harsh, negative or attack anyone now. I'd just like to offer the views of a skinner to some of the newer model makers out there in the interest of expanding their abilities, MY ability, and as a whole creating a much better ...ahem... free product for the entire community. Lindr2, again NO offense meant! I'm using your KH-59 model as an example here to illustrate my point. Thank you for your modeling work on the missing and sorely needed eastern weapons!! I was going to try to add some color to the KH-59 series. I thought I could complete a nice skin in an hour or so in my limited time today. This was my project of the day, chosen above others in work (sorry Simon, I have made some slow progress on yours!). The following three screens show a very nicely detailed model with a one tone skin. Clearly this is screaming for attention from someone who can give it some life in the form of shades, lines and highlights. The first step is to find the parts on the bmp image. To do this I use an image IIRC I obtained from simmerspaintshop called a PanelFinder. Now the idea is apply this bmp to the model and using the numbered and colored grid you can find where that pesky part is hiding in the bmp texture. There are limits to its use however. How the 3d model was built, or UVmapped is an important factor in skinning as you will see in the following screenshots. NOW, I'm NOT a model maker. I can't afford the programs, and hence have little knowledge (and none practical) about making a 3D model. I would urge the newbies to the trade to draw from the experienced guys like the TMF model makers, Julhelm, FastCargo, and all the others for pointers with their work and how to overcome issues. Note in the six screens the KH-31 variants. This is a model from Bunyap's 2006 weapons pack. It's a good model, though it seems the texture is slightly stretched, but not so much that I couldn't create lines on the surface. Those lines are 1 pixel. On FastCargo's P-270 model, I just added some shadeing, the blue band, and a metallic nose cone to bring out some depth. Now compare the KH-31s to the R-77s (Bunyap 2006), R-27s (TMF), and R-73s (TMF). The R-77 suffers a bit more texture stretching, but was still doable in low detail to break up the bland empty white. Before anyone says anything I installed the TMF R-77, but the waffle fins seemed to be missing. Again the lines are 1 pixel wide. By comparison, the R-27 and R-73 have no texture stretching and all detail is very crisp, down to the serial numbers and data. Here's what happened when I applied the PanelFinder to the model. The bottom line is this; I don't think I can do anything for the KH-59 given what the PanelFinder shows. The body texture is so stretched that one can't even read the numbers to locate its position on the texture, let alone try to draw a line for a structural seam, or add data. Like I said, I'm not a model maker so I don't know how to correct this. There are plenty of great modelers here to ask. I just paint em, and I'm still developing in that regard as well. I hope this helps us all to work towards an understanding of both our skills, and those skills of others which we are ourselves weaker in. We all have to work together for a better game. Help me make a better product, and I'll gladly help anyone in turn.
