  1. The only one's who "can't" mod are those who don't try. It doesn't take much to learn to contribute something. I can't afford 3DS Max, but I can fiddle with inis and I can paint. Others like Lex wrench and brain32 (to name a few) have done wonders with terrain. There are many areas in which one can start, it just takes a desire to learn. I may have another contrbution myself in the near future.
  2. Richthofen's Skies

Well, I don't know anything about Richtofen's-skies, but check the dev team list for Target: Rabaul. The game was in it's infantcy when I last had a hand in it in 2003 before I came south to fly for real. Back then it was beta0.44 and only TR, Korea and Flanders was just starting. The engine had lots of promise! It is a massive online sim designed to run about 250 players max at a time. I don't know if they've ever seen anywhere near those numbers, but a fun time anytime numbers are online....espcially if they've gotten the scenarios working. cheers
  3. Do you mean like the buffet the game engine generates as you get close to mach? If so, IMO it's the best representation of real life turbulance I've seen in most sims. I just wish the turbulance in IL2 was like this because IL-2's IMO is sickeningly overdone. Or is it actually pitching up and down?
  4. Your first combat flight sim...

    1) Jet was my first. Loved the Hornet!! 2) Falcon (the original) by Spectrum Holobyte, no steenken AT, gold or otherwise....just 4 colors... "CYMK baby" !!
  5. If you have photoshop or another program that reads PSD files then go to the UV layer of the template. That is where the parts are arranged on the textures. It's usually the bottom layer (eg. it's the "Layer 25 copy" on the fuselage template).
  6. What Do You Look Like in Uniform Thread

2A773 Aircraft Structural Repair with 'Red X' orders before I left
  7. Sweet news Brain32. I figured you've been working up to a masterpiece.
  8. Actually Gocad, I placed 3 USN carrier stations North West in the North Sea, and 2 Soviet carrier stations in the Baltic sea near Kiel. I've been building a 1995 campaign based on flying for the Soviets and have a sister campaign flying for NATO. I'm not going to release them though until the required Soviet tactical birds of the time are available. SU-33, SU-25/39, SU-24, and perhaps the TU-95. I'd like nothing more than to include some TU-22Ms and TU-160s too. I agree though GermanyCE isn't suited have CV ops integrated from the start, but it is do-able.
  9. Your Favorite Fish to Eat

When I was in the Indiana ANG, every year when we deployed to Alpena, Mi. one of the Parachute shop technicians named Dennis Hand would always catch and smoke salmon. Damn I miss that!!
  10. I made my own version of WOE. It's called Wings On Korabelny.
  11. What is wrong with the USAF?

I totally agree with everything you said Dave!! I left for the same reasons. Though I left the ANG, and I hope the AFR is better for you. The trouble is, I'm seeing all of the same things in the corporate world now myself. The doing more with less, and fewer people. Parts.....good luck. We have two aircraft they can't evn complete inspctions on because they can't get the parts for them. Family doesn't exist. Rght now all we have at work is our days scheduled off. Forget about what time you were supposed to get off work today, it isn't happening. I havn't flown my scheduled trip as awarded for two months now. The (i like to call it mismanagement) seems to run from the highest political position on down to the lowest buisness manager. While the USAF isn't what it was when I enlisted in 1987, neither is the US of A. It's really sad IMO. I just wish that I'd seen it in time to save MY marriage, instead of my marriage, and not being allowed to fly being the reason I left the military.
  12. Don't give up the ship! Set it aside for a couple of days then come back later. You'd be surprised how the mistakes you couldn't find last week will pop out this week.
  13. f-15 mid air breakup

I have to concur with FC on this! One has to realize that there are 2 different engines in the F-16C. Early models have the PW engine with a small intake, later models have a GE engine with a large intake. In desert Storm the GE engined varients became engaged by Iraqi fighters on at least one occasion and did not have to drop their bombs to engage. Though the F-15s cleaned up the threat, it says a lot about the GE engined models, as the PW engined models would have had to jettison the bombs.....game over, strike aborted. They were talking about re-engining our F-16C block 25s to GE engines, but decided they couldn't due to the small intake not being able to take in enough air for a GE engine.
  14. MANTY Thanks Nicky!! I've been meaning to do this for my install but havn't had the time. BTW, nice tiger. Almost reminds me of the one on the SU-33s
  15. Keep in mind, this is a game, and a lite sim a that. Try launching some at 10 miles and see what results you get. Also, what aircraft are you targeting. It makes a BIG difference. Try setting up a MiG-17 or MiG-15. Then do the same with a SU-27 launching against both at a variety of ranges to see what results you get. The SU-27 will be able to break lock to a much closer range that an early MiG, where as the early MiG may not even detect the threat.
  16. It sounds to me like your missile might be loosing target lock after launch. At what range and parameters are you launching them, and at what target? Later aircraft have better jamming abilities.
  17. Good Luck Chuck!

His role in Midway was what got me interested in being a pilot, and in WWII naval history. As much so as Ba Ba Black Sheep.
  18. All around beautiful jet Craig! I have one word for the cockpit.... WOW !! I've never been a big Typhoon fan so I hope you'll understand my concern that I'll not be flying my Sukhoi's and F-14s as much anymore...... but I think I'll get over it. Again Great job on the Typhoon!!!!
  19. I concur with your assessment Brain32! I think we all need to get over the "we're better than them" attitudes/perceptions. while soviet technology did lag for many years, they have been making up for it in the last decade plus. The Austrailians are worried about the purchase of the Super Hornet while faceing the SU-30MKII for good reason. Not to mention other areas of Soviet technology such as the submarine. In the 90s the Soviet Navy fielded the Akula class which is modern and on par with US subs for being quiet.
  20. The fix will be in the patch which brings the rest of the series up to WOI standards. I'll concur that the AI on both sides in WOI is much better. Wingmen form up quicker and don't bounce around everywhere. Enemy AI the other day made me realize that just as in real life you don't overshoot them, one took a devestating (for me) snapshot as I overran him.
  21. one last build before vacation...

LOL Beautiful job Paul!! Even thogh we are in the verge of the final season I still like the original Vipers, Raiders, and Galactica better. I guess that's the result of having grown up with the original. Some of the designs these kids made are just not right IMO.
  22. f-15 mid air breakup

No offense taken kct. I just felt I should clarify the enormity of the task. It's really a catch 22 we are in right now IMHO. The car is ready to fall apart from use (over generalization in the F-15's case), it may cost nearly as much to repair it as a new car, and we don't have the money to buy a new car.
  23. f-15 mid air breakup

As a former Structural Mechanic myself I have to ask if you really are aware of just what this statement means. Not every inch of any aircraft is accessable in regular maintenance, and sometimes even in the heaviest maintenence cycles. There are areas that are untouchable without complete dismantling of the aircraft. That is a very costly and time consumeing project. Furthermore the engineers who designed the airplanes determine it's inspection needs over time. This inspection cycle is also modified as nessessary by engineers who are continuously employed during an aircraft's service span and are responsible in solving it's problems related to service life that could not be forseen. In short, you can't point a finger at any one level. Maintaining airplanes is a team effort from the Congress panel who authorizes the funds for procurement......and maintenence, to the most junior wrench turner. There will always be issues that arise the longer an airframe is flown that could not be forseen. Look at the A-6 spar cracks for instance which caused a number of Intruders to be re-winged.
