Help! Can't seem to add any more weapons to the wepdata.ini
drdoyo replied to PigDriver's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hmm, I have 2204 weapons in my weapondat.ini for WOE. Which game are you running? Make sure all of the [WeaponDataXXXX] entries are in sequence. Also, make sure when you activate the new weapons you open the very last one up and click ok. I tried getting rid of all the inert stuff 2 weeks ago and didn't open the last one and when saved, everything after the one I opened (334 or something) was gone. I'm hopeing that was just a fluke. I havn't had time to try again yet. -
New A-6 skins
drdoyo replied to GASCAN39's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Beautiful, Mike!!! -
1968? I guess it's within a year older than me. I was never too interested in it honestly. I was always more interested in Apollo, the Eagle, and Tranquility base which was the month after I was born.

Carrier landings
drdoyo replied to Brainless's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Auto WHAT!!??? I don't even like to use it in the real airplane. I still fly it up to cruise and then engage the autopilot. Our company procedures don't allow us to use IAS hold (auto-throttle is not installed either) for the climb so IMO it's just too easy to get distracted and get too slow, especially with some of our more tired engines. -
Architectural limit for _targets.ini file?
drdoyo replied to comrpnt's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
I can't say either way if there is a limit to number of targets. However from what you said, I'd start by adding those targets that you added, subtracted, and added again one at a time. There might be a problem with a specific particular target and not the number you are adding. -
Color confusion
drdoyo replied to Gocad's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Gocad, I've found that while simmers paintshop is a good place to start, not all their colors are accurate. The 36118 gunship grey is a prime example. I've painted that grey for years on F-4Es, F-16Cs, and some of the C-130H interior surfaces and Simmers Paintshop just doesn't match new or faded 36118. Another factor that A friend of mine and I found out while working on Target: Rabaul was that it does matter on the color chips weather the background is white or black when using the RGB values from the chart. We found IIRC that the 1942 intermediate blue grey on the F4F wildcat took the correct tone when derived from a black background chip, but was wrong with a white background chip. I used the simmers paintshop chips as a starting point on my F-4Es and adjusted it from there until it looked right. You'll notice that the RGB values for the 36118 in the egypt 1 skin is different from the RGB value in the European one skin. -
While that is the correct procedure for most airplanes, watching the video IMO (professional) what they should have done is divert. That was a serious crosswind to be blowing an airplane as big as an airbus around like that! We in the airline industry sometimes give in to the "Gotta get there" attitude caused by pressure from the company (dispatchers/management), and the passengers we fly when the more practical and safer aeronautical decision would be to wait it out. All aircraft have a published "maximum demonstrated crosswind component". This doesn't mean that landing shouldn't be attempted with greater crosswinds, but it does mean that the crew, or pilot (in single pilot situations) needs to evaluate the wisedom of attempting to land in the particular situation.

Your first mistake might have been to try to patch your version. 1C has done multiple "all included" incarnations of IL-2. For me the last and greatest was 1946. With so many boxed versions of the same sim you can't just get the "closest looking patch", chances are you will either break the game, or revert it to an earlier version. I also fire up the game after each install and between each patch to make sure I didn't just break it with a corrupt initial install or update. In short, I've started with Pacific fighters and have brought the series up to the most recent 1946 patch and have had no problems. Don't give up, try it again with a bit more patience. IL-2 has it's problems (personal taste issues really) but it's a fine WW2 sim.

Grounded indefinately
drdoyo posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Since the 3rd wire stuff is where I've sepnt my most time, and done the most contribution work (some of which you all havn'e even seen yet) I thought I'd post this here. I won't be doing much,....anything actually on my computer for the forseeable future. I turned her off last Monday night before going to bed and shortly thereafter remembered that I forgot to check my email. When I got up to go to work Tuesday morning I tried to turn her on ...and nothing. No fans, no lights from the processor, and no sound except from the monitor and speakers. I'm pretty sure it's either the power supply, or the power button. The system being 6 years old, I'm not sure I can find compatable components. I can't afford a new system either. So, I'll be checking in on the message boards from time to time from friends, or work as time permits, but I'll be pretty much out of touch until I can get this sorted out in some way. Doc -

WOE carrier campaign?
drdoyo replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
I've been working on a Carrier campaign circa 1995 from the soviet perspective. I don't however intend to release it until it has the proper aircraft and ships to populate it. -

TE-problems with fjords?
drdoyo replied to ordway's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
AND IMO it would be verry cool revisiting battles from carriers in the Norwegian, and Barents Seas in the SF series! -
Well, ya know, it wouldn't be so bad if not for the fact that 99% of the time the media has no clue what they are talking about. Sorry about my attitude towards the media, but I've personally seen them twist and wrongly muddy too many issues too many times, usually to make the six o'clock edition and they never took the time to get even a basic understanding of what they were reporting about.

I left the military after 17 years as an aircraft structural mechanic in March 2003 to get my wings. Currently my TT is roughly 3000 hrs. I'm flying the EMB-120 Brasilia as a First Officer, and I logged 2000 of my hours in the BE-1900D as a First Officer.

Tornado FMk.3
drdoyo replied to PigDriver's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Are you by chance useing a green/grey colored camo? I had this and switched to an all grey camo and it works fine. I never did figure out why the green/grey camo was causing this. I had most CTDs while flying red birds when F6-ing. As soon as the Tornado came into view CTD.
