  3. Nice video mate, looking forward to more of them, or just plain old text ones! I am assuming you are "iron man"-ing it, ie no refly mission if you get shot down? There was a pretty cool article about the Combat Lancer program in the latest Combat Aircraft monthly mag, about F-111A combat trials in '68. Also got a chuckle from me when the pilot described that two compressor stalls on the ground was "normal" with the TF30s (which the F-111 had IIRC)
  4. uMM, I am missing something here but isn't the TOD solids built directly in the Terraineditor?`You just set up type as box, type in the dimensions and texture coordinates and voila, simple box house. I also worked out how the texture coordinates works, in case anyone wondered but probably thos in the know already knew.
  5. Hey Gerwin did you ever take a closer look at those TOD files? I am currently trying to make friends with TE editor, but it is unbeliavble that there is no copy-paste function for placing terrain objects!

  9. I am pluggin away at the terrain and tileset, I recently decided to make custom city tiles sampled from real satmaps of Tehran but the TODs are giving me a serious headache... Is there a good TOD making tut for TE around here? Especially regarding the solid objects and their texture mapping! Also, when I said I was not prepared to duplicate work regarding the F-5E cockpit I was lying, apparently... This is not inteded to compete with Sophocles work but when I found FastCargos T-38A cockpit I just could not resist molding the twe TMF F-5E pit and it together... I am not going to make something super fancy but the basic avionics will work at least. The cockpit framing and other nice fluff will remain pretty bare bones until Sophocles cockpit comes a long.

    Yes, especially in Arcade mode the FM are pretty simple, but on Full Real Battles setting the planes are a lot more difficult to master. Basically, if you enjoy the SF2 level of flight dynamics you will probably like War Thunders historical battles diffiuclty level. If you are into DCS P-51D, you will probably be let down. Have to share a story with you guys about War Thunder, the other day at work after hours I let two of my work buddies try out War Thunder's arcade mode on my laptop and my buddies PC. Both of these guys are in their early forties and neither is what you might call gamer, even if one of them does occasionally play some games on the PS3. Well, after a brief introduction they were completely hooked and were loving it. They both stayed in the game for a couple of hours, completely sucked into the game. So that is, if anything, a testament of how well this game captures the genres potential!

    I've sometimes wondered why the Iranians who have worked on the F-5 have not tried to mate it to a RD-33 turbofan from the MiG-29. That would have made it a sort-of F-20 of the east, for real. Anyways, cool what-if!
  13. Dassault Aviation was and still is very customer oriented, creating planes that are tailored to the customers need. This is all well and good, but does create some problem when faithfully tring to recreate the plethora of different Mirage F.1s that all differ ever so slightly from each other. Add to this the five different types of F.1s, C Fighters, E multiroles, A attacker, CR recon/attackers and CT fighters/bobmers/recons that broadly share features between eachothers. So I think it will be worth the wait but just know that we are not intentionally holding off the release...

  15. While testing the Iran/Iraq build I am working on I was tasked with air defence supression while flying for the Iraqi air force Su-20Bs. So I gear up my flight of eight (!) Fitters with RBK-250 and 500 cluster bombs, UB-32 rocked pods, S-24 heavy unguided rockets and whatnot. Result: I get shot down instantly when we go over the ridgeline that surrounded that target line, and in a matter of a couple of minutes my whole flight is downed by flak. So radar laid guns can be pretty devastating sometimes. But more often than not it's just "Oh look, fireworks, guess I'm over enemy territory then"
  16. I can't speak for the Intruder, but for a fast jet like say the Mirage 5 you can drop retarded bombs at a very low alltitude as long as you keep up the speed -> higher speeds enables you to drop even lower with Snakeyes.

  20. F-105 vs F-35 JSF

    I don't just think that the F-35 will necessarily be the best value for money, especially for smaller airforces like Norway. A larger, inherently more capable platform would probably bring more bang for the buck, even if it means that it is a Gen4++ with stealth features. And regarding the Raptor, it really does not make any sense to first build arguably and probably the best fighter of the day and then only build a little over a 100 of them and call it a day. Sure the F-22 is over the top expensive but wasn't the F-15 too back in the day? How much use would the F-15A had been if it had been built in Raptor numbers, never exported and never refined into the C or Strike Eagle? Stealth is great and all but there are always ways to find an aircraft, even if it just some guy in bush with a Mk1 Eyeball and a radio, or a 2000lb JDAM blowing up that enables you to deduce that there probably is a strike aircraft somewhere around. What I am getting at is that even if the JSF will probably not be detected with current air defence equipment it is in a world of shit if it located by other means, be it IRST or human spotters or just a lucky SOB in an obsolete fighter. So designing an aircraft that is an one trick pony is probably a bad idea, especially for the foreign users who do not have F-22s to escort the JSFs...

  24. TBH my "highres" temps are not really any kind of solution, they just ease repainting but they are not by any means something resembling Sundowners F-4 temps for example.
  25. Congrats on the medal man and nice writeup! I know what you mean about keeping your wingies alive too, feels good to keep those dudes flying. Sometimes I wish there was some more squadron building elements, sort of like Jagged Alliance to give a bit of a personal touch
