Since the Santa Nativity Aviation was blocked - its time to wake up Ceasar on the mid-watch! ---------------------------------------------- 'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the skies, Missile defenses were up, with electronic eyes. MDA staffers were nestled in ready-room beds, As successful IFTs danced in their heads. Every GBI in its hole, each PAC-3 in its tube, Was doubly-redundant, linked to the Blue Cube, And UEWR and COBRA DANE gave coverage so dense That nothing that flew could slip through our defense! When out of the klaxon arose such a clatter I dashed to the screen to see what was the matter; I increased the gain and then, quick as a flash, Fine-adjusted the filters to damp out the hash. And there found the source of the warning we'd heeded: An incoming blip, by eight escorts preceded. "Alert status red!" went the word down the wire, As we gave every system the codes that meant "FIRE!" On Aegis! Up Patriot, use GMD, and the full 04 Block, And scramble our fighters--let's send the whole flock! Launch decoys and missiles, use chaff by the yard! Get the ABL up! Call out the National Guard! They turned toward the target, moved toward it, converged. Till the tracks on the radar all finally merged, And the sky was lit up with a demonic light, As the foe met his fate in that high arctic night. So we sent out some recon to look for debris, Yet all that they found, using SATCOM and C2BMC, Were some toys, a red hat, a charred left leather boot, Broken sleigh bells, white hair, and a deer's parachute! Now it isn't quite Christmas, with Saint Nick shot down. There are unhappy kids in each village and town. For the Spirit of Christmas can't hope to evade All the web of defenses we've carefully made. But a crash program's on: Working hard, night and day, All the elves are constructing a radar-proof sleigh. So let's wait for next Christmas, in cheer and in health, For the future has hope: Santa's coming by stealth!!! NOTE: Many years ago, in some radar Ops room far away, an "Air Defense" version of "'Twas The Night Before Christmas" was penned by an air defender whose name has been lost to history. This is the somewhat modified poem to a Missile Defense version (with apologies to Clement Moore).

Santa Nativity Aviation (Author - an unknown air defender lost to history) ----------------------------- Have A Stealthy Christmas Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the skies, Air defenses were up, with electronic eyes. Combat pilots were nestled in ready-room beds, As enemy silhouettes danced in their heads. Every jet on the apron, each SAM in its tube, Was triply-redundant linked to the Blue Cube, And ELINT and AWACS gave coverage so dense, That nothing that flew could slip through our defense. When out of the klaxon arose such a clatter, I dashed to the screen to see what was the matter, I dialed up the gain and then quick as a flash, Fine-adjusted the filters to damp out the hash. And there found the source of the warning we'd heeded, An incoming blip, by eight escorts preceded. "Alert status red!" went the word down the wire, As we gave every system the codes that meant "FIRE"! On Aegis! Up Patriot, Phalanx and Hawk! And scramble our fighters -- let's send the whole flock! Launch decoys and missiles! Use chaff by the yard! Get the kitchen sink up! Call the National Guard! They turned toward the target, moved toward it, converged, Till the tracks on the radar all finally merged, And the sky was lit up with a demonic light, As the foe met his fate in the high arctic night. So we sent out some recon to look for debris, Yet all that they found, both on land and on sea, Were some toys, a red hat, a charred left leather boot, Broken sleighbells, white hair, and a deer's parachute. Now it isn't quite Christmas, with Saint Nick shot down. There are unhappy kids in each village and town. For the Spirit of Christmas can't hope to evade, All the web of defenses we've carefully made. Just look how the gadgets we use to protect us, In other ways alter, transform, and affect us. They keep us from things that make life more worth living, Like love for each other, and thoughts of just giving. But a crash program's on: Working hard, night and day, All the elves are constructing a radar-proof sleigh. So let's wait for next Christmas, in cheer and in health, For the future has hope: Santa's coming by stealth!

NATO Fighters Part 1 (Main Folder)
Typhoid replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
no different than if you had installed each one, one by one. But the NATO 4+ pack does have some issues with some of the aircraft than need to be worked, one by one and discussed in The Knowledge Base. -
Definitely a mixed bag. 9/11 was horrible and being recalled to The Mountain was one of those things that I will never forget. Watching my sons go to war while I manned C2 systems supporting them at home was a very, very hard thing to live through. One thing about war coming to your home - if you are in the defense business, employment was pretty steady. but I'd have rather it had been otherwise......... The financial and economic disasters and political firefights have also been an intense and increasingly hostile fire-fight, in which I have been kept busy. I'll say no more here about that. I will say, that I have never felt that our country and the future of the the world was in more danger than now. I pray that the next decade will bring some semblance of sanity that has so far eluded us all. on the plus side - I stumbled upon this place and nice cool hangout with a lot of cool dudes!

The Double D's
Typhoid replied to hgbn's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'd like to suggest modding one rule after some test missions. I think the hard setting on black-out is too hard and somewhat unrealistic for modern aircraft with G-suits. I suggest normal for blackout. Andy -
Air to Ground 'winders
Typhoid replied to Rambler 1-1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
in the Geneva Convention? I don't think so, but I don't recall anything specific on that. Lots of AAA is dual use - including SAMs in some cases. (Sea Sparrow for example) I suspect the brass was more upset that scarce A2A weapons had been expended with little to no probability of success - as in wasted. There have been some efforts from time to time to look into adding A2G capabilities to A2A missiles. Sidearm, in fact, was such a development. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGM-122_Sidearm included in one of the weapons pack or as an extra add-on for the Thirdwire series. -
I vaguely recall paying more at the Post Office to ship to an APO/FPO.

MCAS Miramar Departures Today
Typhoid replied to TurtleHawk's topic in Military and General Aviation
the "Hunters" might have been Harriers seen in the distance. I suspect that is the MAW which will support the upcoming Afghanistan deploment of the MEB coming out of Pendleton, hence the increased air training sorties. -

Nato Fighter and Weapon PAck compatibility ?
Typhoid replied to Wotano's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'm pretty sure the series 1 NATO Fighters 1-4 includes all the applicable weapons for that scenario and aircraft. if you add any aircraft for single mission, you will need to add those weapons using the weapons editor for Series 1. Those won't show up in the campaign play but will for single mission. -

comments below from an associate within the Puzzle Palace "This article tracks with a lot of RUMINT on the QDR. If you've followed a lot of the arguments in this town in makes for interesting reading. The F-22 was canceled based on lack of a threat an "increased numbers of F-35" to compensate. Now the F-35 can be cut because of a reduction in 2 CBGs and 2 USAF FWEs...also based on lack of threat --only low intensity COIN on the horizon. Not mentioned in the article is the deployment of Chinese 5th generation fighters, new subs, Russian equipment on the market for just about anyone with cash and the possiblity of a nuclear armed Iran. An unforseen COIN conflict will not significantly threaten the Republic--an unforseen conflict with a near-peer competitor or a major regional competitor armed with near-peer weapons could. Nevertheless, this report tracks with other developments (RBTL) where there is an apparent trend to limit US ability to globally project power. It will interesting to watch how this develops." this spreads the pain even further. Eliminating 2 USAF FWE along with 2 CVBG's and their airwings is a substantial cut in conventional airpower. Further, the USMC Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle is also being eliminated. So as we execute a shift towards COIN operations, we are cutting the very means to support those troops that we send into COIN operations. "This force reduction may be the break certain countries or leaders have been waiting for....." our ambassadors, visiting representatives and regime-chief-executive-officer (President) can simply bow deeply to the tinpot potentate and kiss his ring or lick his boots.......... I said earlier that I wasn't harping on the Obama Regime - as this information comes more to light, I am now. This is national security insanity.
-
actually, I wasn't harping on the Obama regime. Well, just a little in that he cut the F-22 production just a little while ago in favor of the F-35 and now this along with the gutting of the carrier forces mentioned. I was more ranting on the perenial and disfunctional state of DoD aquisition. We are in complete agreement on that point. I work on technical support contracts providing services to the DoD, direct support to operations in the past and now involved in aquisition and fielding. The way a lot of these contracts are written is just plain stupid, thankfully not all (or mine at the moment).

Sf1 terrains in Sf2?
Typhoid replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
NF4 is for WOE. NF4+ is for SF2E. Don't mix them up!! -
well, yes and no. We bought more Eagles and Lawn Darts than originally planned in large part because their replacements never showed up so replacement airframes had to be bought to handle the longer time in service and attrition. I think. I absolutely agree with the insanity you point out on overall aquisition. The particular insanity of gutting the F-22 program numbers because we are going to use F-35's instead, and then gutting the F-35 program too is a very dangerous development over the longer term. This represents a false economy which is also a potential risk in a much smaller fleet of airframes. To fix it down the road will potentially result in higher costs than if we simply stuck to a stable program. But that would take foresight and vision...........
