E-2C Hawkeye 2000, or E-2D?
Typhoid replied to gbnavy61's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
ah..... hadn't heard them called that. Yes, I have that loaded and use it as background in some of my missions. -

Ship questions...
Typhoid replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
on some ships, several turrets will move but only one will fire. So there is something odd in there. as I learn more about the ship ini modelling, I may be able to figure some of that out. "Oh, and does anyone know the realistic engagement altitude for 5" guns and 40mm Bofors? They're set at 8000' right now. " its been awhile since I came ashore - but I recall it being 15k yards (meters) for the 5". A lot less for the 40mm, I'd hazard a guess at 8k meters. -

E-2C Hawkeye 2000, or E-2D?

I was looking for that picture - thanks!! I put the modified C2 airframe morphed into an E2 in every mission that I build (go figure) it would be great to have a real E-2B, C and D to play with. RVAW-110 VAW-117 VAW-115 -
Point of Interest To the Thirdwire Community
Typhoid replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
people who complain should be required to post their own mod before they are allowed to post anything else. I know that is impractical, but the point should be apparent. Those who can't or won't do are the ones who complain. they should simply be ignored. -
Help with Combat in SF2
Typhoid replied to Malkuth's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
the bottom line on bombing technology is that through the early '80s the bulk of bombing technology was still pretty much dependent upon the pilot putting a sight on target and counting "one potato(e) two potato(e)" as he pulled. there were a lot of various "bombing aids" in the form of computers, radar cursors, off-set bombing, nuke countdown timers, navigation assistance, etc. One of the more sophisticated was the computer generated "fly to" cursors with an automated bomb release. but all of that still boiled down to the pilot putting the sight on the target somehow and dropping a "stick' of bombs spread across the countryside with the faint hope that one of the many would be close enough to the intended target that the lethal radius would overlap. As evidence of that - review radar bombing of Stanley Airfield during the Falklands War. Even more recently - the war in Georgia this past summer involved a squadron of Backfires conducting the same tactics and radar bombing technology against an airfield, with somewhat dismal results (best defensive tactic for survivabiltiy when facing an inbound Backfire raid from the Caucus Military District is to stand at the intended target point.......) the real truth is that until the advent of guided weapons, which is pretty well simulated by the way in the sim, bombing with dumb ordanance was and still is pretty much flying the plane with a gun sight of varied sophistication on the target and letting the stick go at the right time. The sim actually does a pretty good job of representing that. -
RWR does not warn for AHM launch - SOLVED

I was under the impression that they were fired in semi-active homing and switched to active when within a certain terminal range. Or is that just real world? -

Question About removing aircraft (WOE)
Typhoid replied to AJAY67's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
you could cause a campaign to crash if its one of those specifically listed in the campaign. Outside of that - no, there is no problem at all. -
RWR does not warn for AHM launch - SOLVED
Typhoid replied to Brain32's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
careful - thats a "maybe". Have to check in the ini for both the RWR and the missile in question to see if that's the case. At this point I am offering a guess. -
RWR does not warn for AHM launch - SOLVED
Typhoid replied to Brain32's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
there is an interesting update in the latest patch. The RWR and radar functions now work within specific bands (realistically) so it is entirely possible that your RWR may not warn of a missile in a band not covered. CHAFF CHAFF CHAFF -

Ship questions...

an outstanding ship. I wonder how many of the turrets could be made to be active. That would really smoke an air attack! -

there are a fair number of WWII and post-WWII surface combattants from several countries. -
"Lol! dude are you serious" oh yes! after all, if we have to go on a cross country hop anyway to fill out the training matrix - might as well go someplace kewl

not at all I had a lot of fun with the Army guys and gals around here with their "cute" little berets and that asinine Army of One nonsense. Army Strong is a heck of an improvement on that. (service academy games are A LOT of fun around here!!) AF Cyber looks to be coming under AFSPC and my company does a lot of work in that arena. AF Cyber may even end up here, so I may find myself buried over in that world in the months ahead. (horrors) I'm hoping for a much more interesting task that's coming up but nothing firmed up yet. And yet - both what I do now and what I will likely end up doing is essentially moving bits and bytes around so someone else can take an accurate shot. I'd much rather be flyin'
