  1. Landing Gear

from what I heard, second hand, he got out ok but the aircraft will only go back to the UK in the back of a cargo plane as partially melted pieces.
  2. Landing Gear

a couple of hours ago at China Lake by the RAF guys doing some testing out there. "why?" he forgot to put the rollers down.......
  3. I didn't drive the F-4, just controlled them. The F-4J and S most definitely had pulse doppler and had a pretty good look down capability. The radar display in this light sim is roughly correct with respect to the video quality of the radars from that time frame, but the display is way simpler. The variety of radar modes and selections is in no way modelled to an accurate level of fidelity. Its simplified to be playable.
  4. grooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaan!!
  5. wagsled, Have you tried the MF Phantoms? How accurate are those FM's?
  6. one of the issues we are working with the FAA on operating UAV's in the national airspace system is their ability to "See and Avoid". I guess this one comes under the heading of "See and not quite avoid....."
  7. Colleges

absolutely right on!!!!! Where you got your degree matters not one little bit. What you do with what you learned, and CONTINUE TO LEARN is what matters a lot more. Actual acomplishments (like GPA) make far more of a difference than where you went to school. Results matter - nothing else comes close. Resumes for positions look at the last few years only relative to the position you are looking for. "What have you done lately?" is what gets you to your goals. Good luck - study hard. But not too hard. If you aren't having fun, you are not doing it right.
  8. no clue. I would guess that the Tomcat coming off of the cat at about 145kias would not be able to pull more than a couple of g's without stalling. My recollection, purely second hand on this one, is that she earned the name "Turkey" at slow speed for a reason. I would think the g capability wouldn't pick up until above 350kias. For modeling here, I'd say if you can get the stall speeds and stall characteristics right, then you've got a winner. If you have the NATOPS, then you have more info than I have.
  9. I'll look at that. I set up a mission and hunting them down and blowing them is cool. I didnt' see where they would launch though. yet...... You found some pictures of that beast being launched at an angle? I am curious to see that. Everything I've seen showed them being erected from the road mobile mode - but had to be vertical for launch. at any rate - looks cool and lots of mission possibilities here!! Great work!!! (note - comments from me on items that are not perfect are intended only to improve the models and are not intended as being critical of the time and effort people put into them!!!!!!)
  10. good AI. I don't recommend trying to fly a mission with it. It doesn't fly quite right.
  11. looks cool. Looking at the picture - you know a SCUD launches straight up?
  12. twin-engined jet question

definitely single engine. When I flew (in the backseat) of the T-33 which was the trainer mod of the same plane, it most definitely had only one, very weak, motor.
  13. I recall a few "tense moments" with TU-16's..........
  14. Fubar, The original question dealt with the Harpoon anti-runway strike, which remains in the leading hint category. you've raised a different issue which is very intriguing. I've scripted anti-ship missions and except for my immediate wingman - they won't hit the ships. You have apparently broken the code. A hint perhaps? ???
  15. what fubar is trying to lead you to is "what kind of a missile is a Harpoon?" (refraining from further hints with great amusement)
  16. as spectre said - (snag) oh yea......!!!! I had done some similar mods to some other campaigns, but this sounds real interesting for a WOE effort!!! have to check this out in my I/E install.....
  17. View File F-14D V1.4 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | GRUMMAN F-14D TOMCAT | | The F-14D Tomcat the best fleet defender and for going "downtown" to turn infrastructure into rubble. | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ With the gracious permission of; The Mirage Factory and Olivier ANGUILLE (BPAo); Version 1.4 with TCS mod and updated flight model changes. This TCS mod provides a boresighted view only and does not (yet) track selected targets. The Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) has been updated and includes the implementation originally developed by wpnssgt. Flight model updates developed by Aleckx have also been incorporated which more accurately represents the fleet operational F-14D. This is an update of the earlier F-14D mod to the Mirage Factory F-14A and corrects several inaccuracies. The earlier F-14D release more closely represented the capabilities of the "Quick Strike variant which never actually went further than "view-graph engineering" and would have been a half step to the later Tomcat-21 which also never made it off of the drawing boards. If you like that variation you may wish to rename it as the Quick Strike 2, recognizing that it never actually flew. Land Warrior also has uploaded a Quick Strike version. This variation of the original F-14A represents the capabilities of the last operational configuration to guard the fleet; the F-14D "Bombcat", which included the capability to drop bombs and laser guided bombs. Other advanced weapons available at the time, such as Mavericks and Harms, were never incorporated into the F-14D due to budget limitations. The F-14D's strike debut was in Operation Desert Fox that went into Iraq against chemical weapons facilities identified by the UN teams in 1998. This aircraft was withdrawn from fleet service in 2006 and replaced by the F-18F in the air to air and medium strike roles. This release also incorporates the outstanding avionics upgrade done by Sandmartin and Batman1978, special thanks to them for their fine work and for granting permission to include that in this release. This model is a minor tweak only of the ini files to update the engines, radars and weapons to enable the full air to ground capabilities that were fielded in this aircraft. This does not include the detailed airframes changes of the later aircraft, that is left to a more capable modelling team at which point this version will be withdrawn. This release assumes you have already loaded the Mirage Factory F-14A, without which things like sounds will not come up. Just unzip this entire folder into your WOE/Ojects/Aircraft folder. Note -1. The avionics upgrade by Sandmartin and Batman1978 uses the avionics70 file to provide improved HUD and air to air radar and tracking capabilities. This mod does not have the air to surface radar capability of the earlier avionics60 file used in the earlier versions. Since the F-14D in its later years was primarily employed as a medium strike aircraft (air opposition having evaporated) the lack of an air to surface radar is a limitation of the sim with the newer avionics file. IF you like the option of having air to surface radar, the original files are included in the "Alternate Cockpit" subdirectory with a detailed read-me for how to back-up and install cockpit variations. If you like this option, let me know. Also, this avionics70 mod does NOT work in a Wings Over Vietnam only install. So if you are using a WoV install you will need to use the alternate cockpit using the avionics60 version. The TCS mod works in both versions. Note; the missile stations are designed to pick up Active Radar Homing missiles and will employ the AIM-7 and AIM-54 series air to air missiles. The model here will also pick up the AIM-120 series in the sim, but the aircraft was never wired or certified to carry that missile. So if you want the realism, don't load that one. Good hunting! 18. did you do the weapon editor edit? check and make sure the Lantirn is there AND that you are setting up a mission in the correct time period. Should work.
  19. you really can find nearly everything on uTube

there is something just plain awesome about so much airplane with "6 turning and 4 burning"! I liked the part where Jimmy asks about where they are going and the answer comes back "Alaska"...
  20. its absolutely functional and you can self laze - but you need to ensure that it is added in the weapons pack. If you haven't, you should load the MF weapons pack that has the pods. Then it will work like a champ.
  21. f-15 mid air breakup

My F-15 buds all say that the F-15E loaded up for air to air only is a superb aircraft in that role. The only reason they don't use it for that is because the USAF still has a grunch of A's and C's for that and needs every aircraft it can use in the air to ground role for - air to ground. Yes, the E has bigger engines to match the bigger, heavier airframe which is why it performs as well as the A's and C's in A2A. at least, that's the line I hear from the Eagle drivers around here.
  22. An Interview With Wagsled

outstanding story and a great series.
  23. Flight Jacket Nametags

made perfect and complete sense to me! cl, out here there are enough of us REAL aircrew that the uniform shop has all the Right Stuff. except for brown leather and such..... I've got this silly NORAD patch now. But if you come up empty, give me a pm with the details and I'll see if they can gin one up for you.
  24. B-1 crash in Qatar

very very true, both the shortfalls in zero zero seats and the much improved Soviet seats. They did make very good seats which got everyone's attention. I've heard our latest models have caught up, don't know that for sure.
