Just tried the Float view and I like it better than the chase view.

That is confusing. Whoever said OFF has a steep learning curve was putting it mildly. When i go to Quick combat using the cfs3 on the bottom left in the workshop and go to controls I have Virtule Cockpit and assigned "c"on the keyboard and button 2 on my JoyStick. I also have Cockpit(toggle) which goes back and forth between the virtule CP and no cockpit. Just an aiming circle. That is f3 on the keyboard and button 5 on my controller. F4 on my keyboard is "next view" or view forward cycle, and cycles thru, chase view .virtule CP, Player to target, and rotate view. Should I be doing something different? I am using my hat switch in snap only so it always comes back to the cockpit. Pawgy

Sorry I left you last night but my Arthritic neck gave out. Thanks very much for all your suggestions. Using my controls profile no matter what i did i could not get the hat switch to work. So I loaded the cfs3 default profile, which is what i should have done to begin with as soon as you told me hat should work. When I loaded the default cfs3 profile and went to the game my hat sitch worked. Wonderful. So I saved the default with a new name ,and one by one loaded my all Joy buttons back in and saved. Went to the game and Hurray!!!!!! the hat works. Went back and resaved the new config. as "mine" so it would always show when i started the game and now everything is OK!!!!. I must have had something wrong in my original "mine" config and just could not find it. Configuring the controls in cfs3 OFF is not the simplest thing to figure out but I don't think it is nearly as hard as I made it out to be. This is a great forum because you fellows did not give up and continued to try and help. Thanks again to all. Also Burning beards "tilde" was right on. thanks Regards Pawgy

just looked and accent (') is listed for toggle on off padlock. . but this does not work also. No software . just simple plug and Play. And as mentiond works fine on other sims.

I tried pressing the letter O and zero also and nothing happens. I have my button 9 on my joystick programmed for padlock and I tried that but no change. I really appreciate everyone trying to help. Just looked at cfs3 default controller settings and zero or the letter o is not listed for padlock. just loked and accent is listed for toggle on off padlock. will try right now. Regards Pawgy

A very intresting question. I have always had a problem with motion sickness and I even went to a solid chair for my race sims. I would guess track iR is sensative to head movemants from what I have read. Probably the old dog new tricks is most appropiate though. But i have my racing wheel set permanently and a very neat little Jojstick platform the slides on and off around my wheel. I relly don't need any more contraptions connected to my computer. Also just spent $70 for off, $100 for ROF and all the planes , $50 for a new Joystick and $100 for an new graphics card so i could run ROF decently. ANd it runs OFF beautifully. SO I guess it is a combination off all you astute assumptions. Very good guesses. WIll give the "fly by " a good try. Thanks Pawgy

Thanks olham. still no luck. My thrustmaster T16000m is selected in the 2ed frame. Cycled thru F4 views I get chase view, spot view, target view. and Virtule cockpit . When In virtule cockpit I try the scroll lock and still have no pan or snap on my hat switch. Pawgy

Lewie. I have not had a problem programming my very good (but inexpensive) thruetmaster t16000m joy stick for other controls. i have 18 functions on it and it programs nicely. OK. I hit exit when the cockpit shows up in QC. and I get the drop down Hanger screen .I select "controls" and get a pop up screen in the lower left. it lists all the control functions. I have it saved as "mine" because that is really the default location. I go down to "toggle for 'panning' and 'snap views'" and it is set for the "scroll lock' key. my proble is when i go back to flying my hat switch still does not activate the Pan or snap. I can hit scroll lock and use the num pad keys and either snap or pan cepending which cycle of the "scroll lock" I'm on. but nothing happens on my joystick when i hit the hat switch. I know my hat switch is functionong as i have checked in Windows game Controllers and it works fine in Rise of flight and IL2 1946. I am absolutly not intrested in track IR or anything similar. When I go to controls all I see is pan right and pan left. If i select and move the hat switch it will only do one or the other. How do you select the hat switch in pan mode to look all around?

Which Quick combat do you fly? the one directly from the main menue or the CFS3QC on the lower left of the workshop window? I have tried both but not enough to really tell the difference. I think the CfS3qc with the realism setting in the drop down hanger menue is easier to fly . Or are they the same? Pawgy

Thanks.. Started one campaign and I see I need a lot more practice to survive any kind of combat. Am enjoying the QC.So far I really like just basting away. Now I have a lot more info on how to best use cfs3QC. looks like it has the most to offer. I did not realize you could go directly to the field in cfs3QC by hitting the CFS3mP .exe. in my main oFF folder. In my OBDS main folder are two folders. CFSww1 OVer Flanders Field ,,,which is my main OFF folder and a second folder called WW1Scenery. What Is WW1 Scenery for? Pawgy

An Apology from Pawgy To those of you who took the time to reply to my first questions about OFF, I would like to sincerely apologize for some brash comments and unfair criticism made by me. I was just in to big of a hurry and unwilling to take the neccessary time to learn the basics of the very good ww1 flight sim. After I calmed down and took Woodin's and uncleal's comments to heart I realized i did not give OFF a fair shot. So I stopped my for sale thread and reinstalled the next day. I am really glad I did. I re-read my #9 post on my,,, http://combatace.com/topic/62540-new-install-some-advice-please/page__p__474460__hl__pawgy__fromsearch__1#entry474460 ,,, thread and see that I really made some rather stupid comments.. Since my reinstall I have been doing a great deal of reading on this forum, at the developers web site and at SimHQ. uncleal's T & C have been very valuable and Woodin has helped at SimHQ. I have only flown QC ,dogfight and turkey shoot with any success. With the variety of Settings for the AI and easy piloting ,even an older fellow like me can have some great fun. It just took a little time to get everything going. I still spin and stall if i do not pay attention bur for the most part I can have some good (easy ) dogfights. I have tried a variety of graphic settings but still get a few stutters. Nothing drastic. I have purchased and installed the HitR and the HitR update. OFF seems to run about the same as befor the updates. but now i have some more very nice planes and a session based AI skill adjuster in the workshop. Here are a few of the Gems I have learned from the OFF forum already. These are the important things I had to Google to get the most out of the great replies. Warsteiner Pilsener an excellent German beer. The main brewery where this beer is made can be found in Dublin a Beer Just plain old BEER found all over the world. T & C #6 more excelent info. I tried my first campaign. Ran into a flight of DFWC5:s i think. Anyway they had rear gunners that chewed me up just like they do in ROF. Much fun though because I managed to HIt a couple befor they downed me. Using unlimited ammo, my hit percentage is around 10% most of the time. I had my wife read all of your posts and she was very impressed with each and every reply. Pros Installed OFF no problms. Asked for cfs3 disc, inserted uBI dvd, only took a few seconds, reinserted OFF disc and completed the install in about 10 minutes. Added the super patch and mini patch and set cfs3 config, Was in game in no time. Graphics are much better than I expected since I have been playing ROF for several months and the graphics in it are great. Cons I set my cfs3 config for 1680x1050 for my 22' wide screen just fine. But when i get to the field and bring up the menue to set the controls all the printing is so small I almost can not read it. How do I get the menues bigger so they are ledgible with out being right on top the screen? Where can I find a detailed explination on how to set the controls with my joy stick? not just a listing of inputs but the easiest way to actually set the controls so they work like the other Excellent flight sims I have installed. I have done a lot of searching on the developers web site, here and at SimHQ to no savail. Some of what I put in is ok but so far i can not get back in the pilot seat view unless I hit f6 on the keyboard.. And a number of other controls do not react properly. If I try to set my hat swith and hit it while I am in chase view the plane view goes around in circles. Also I have set all the difficulty and engine settings to easy, easy ,easy. but still when flying a Spad 13 when I dive I lose power. I would expect that in a more realistic setting but certianally not in easy flight. Have not tried a dog fight yet. Thanks Pawgy

I see the names of all the OFF mainstays listed above. thanks for your replys. In looking back at some of the earlier replies I can only disagree with one . The poster said this sim like any of the very good ones is probably a young mans game. With the variety of settings avilable in oFF and once you get to know them and how to find and activate them it becomes an excellent game, even for an old (76) man like me. Just flew a dozen quick dogfights. To say the least I am very dissappointed. i am afraid i wasted $55. never came close to hitting an easy opponent with all the easiest settings. As a matter of fact I could hardly even see them. I do much much better in ROF and the game runs much smoother. Several times game came to a complete stop and was thrown back to desktop. Whoever said all the easy settings would make the game better for a poor flyer was way off base.. I won't be bothering you fellows any longer . I would sell my dvd cfs3 and OFF disk for $40 + shipping if i could find a buyer. Sorry to be such a grouch but i was really mislead on this Game. IN fact it is the very first one out of the many many sims over the last 20 years I have truely been dissappointed in. Good luck and good flying Pawgy

Now that I know what T&C is and have found it It should help a lot. I will do a lot of copy and pasting of these tips .Just needed to know where to find them and it looks like I came to the right place.. Didn't know I was Challenged by English but you learn something new every day. And yes some said that with all the easy settings in OFF it could be Easy. I appreciate your taking the time for the detailed response. Pawgy Stil can't make the virtual cockpit work on my controller. Only if i hit f6 on the keyboard.

Thank you for your reply. I have no problem accessing the controls. once I do I just cannot read them very well as the printing is much to small as i explained. I have yet to be able to get the cockpit view to work on my stick even though i have repetedly programed for my #2 button. .Also hve not been able to successfully program padlock and many others. Your expailnation is really not detailed enough and not what I was looking for at all since I have alredy mentioned that I have programmed some commands.. Some place there has to be a step by step explination of just exactly what you must do to program a joystick. Thank you again for your reply. Thanks for your reply. My comment relates to having all the flight settings set to easy and having the plane partially stall when diving. In my opinion this is not indicitive of an easy setting. If it were truly easy in all aspects it would not stall on a dive. When I set ROF to the most easy setting I can throw the plane alll over the sky and never see a stall unless I climb too steeply. Im sorry but I am not looking for practice makes perfect . I have flown since the first red baron and all the cfs and ILs and 1946 and and First eagles and ROF and i am still no Good at all . But i really enjoy being able to occasionally shoot down an opponent. My best planes in ROF are the Spad 13 and the Sopwith Camel. and of course the DR1. Befor I purchased this game I questioned this and SimHQ forums about being able to set this sim so that I could be competitive and all who responded said there were many easy settings and really should not have a problem. I need to get a lot more seat time befor I can make an intelligent response as to the ease of flight in OFF. Befor i do that I need to have a good explination of just exactly how you set up a controller. Many of the assignment I put in do not work so I must be doing something wrong. . Regards Pawgy

Confusing. Getting ready to install OFF from cd which I just ordered.. then purchase the expansion HITR. Do I need the superpatch 1.32 if I purchase and install the HITR expansion? Pawgy

My Combat Flight Sim 3 Just arrived and it says it is UBISOFT Exclusive. PC DVD rom. SO from what i have read this is the dvd version i guess. I think that means it is already 3.1 and will not require the dvd in drive after install. is that correct? Does tha also mean I do not have to install it ,, Just put it in during the OFF installation so OFF can get the neccessary files????? How do I know for sure if my UBIsoft version DVD , which just arrived, is 3.0 or 3,1?? Pawgy

I Have been playing ROF for about 6 months and enjoy it a great deal but it is very tough to shoot a plane down..IL2 1946 is a little easier to set the AI so they are worse than I am. Looking forward to OFF and maybe some easier settings to start with. Sometimes i think i am too old (75) for the sims that require VG eyesite and quick reactions but i will keep playing. Patch to 12v1 Pt32Superpatch from developer download. 6.. Patch to V1pt32gMini from developer download. 7.. install HITR after purchase download---------------------------------------$20 8.. instal Mini patch v1.47 for HTIR from developer download. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------Total-----$73 I sure hope it all goes smoothly. Why won't First Eagles 2 run on Windows XP? many games run on all formats. I think third wire is losing a lot of business because of this limitation.

I made a large post with examples over on the thirdwire First Eagles site on Planes that do not show up in the game but are in my Aircraft folder. I also see many skins in my aircraft folder the I cannot access in the game. i have done a considerable amount of searching and really do not know how to use skins in the game. can someone point me to the right post on how skins are used and what will show up as flyable aircraft in the Game?
