1 Matra 530 under the right wing for the Mig-23's I knew I would see 1 Matra R552 II under the left wing 1 400kg bomb under each wing 1 1300L tank on the centerline. Target runway was 186 miles in, and there were 4 of us. We all got back out, too.

I'm not sure, quite honestly. All the documentation on it reads as "just" and F-16A, and there's only 1 skin with it. I posted a couple of shots of it in the screenshots thread.

You run into all sorts of people in the Formosa Straits.........All these guys were on 1 mission Headed for the Straits Wingman looking me over..... Took this shot passing over their field at 27k But this is the bunch that made life miserable

Sams are such a PITA..........Especially when they wait until you commit...and then fire. Makes it that much sweeter when you beat one........Or they lock on someone else 15's at Hi Altitude Tomcat stalking some unsuspecting targets....

I'm getting back into flying the heavies.. Over Norway. The Victor has a certain appeal for me.

27 Sams fired at us...........and missed 6 AA missiles fired.....and missed Sent the J-Stars home as soon as we got the MC call, and took the AWACS low and fast to give the Migs something to chase for the run home. Who knew an E-3 could run so well at low level flying???? 1 MiG-23ML(NK)wiped off on a mountainside trying a high-speed gun pass. The other one fell to a flight of F-104s in the area, and I ran underneath. After that, a nice leisurely cruise back home.

This was an interesting mission...........

For so many of us during the Bad Old Days of the Cold War (and afterward), this was the most welcome sight of any TDY. The Freedom Bird....our ride home.
