Watched Harry Potter tonight, decent film but there was a good trailer for Transformers, an extended version of one I'd seen before which included Optimus Prime in it :)
-
I have just finihed downloading the demo for Nascar 08 on the Xbox Live Marketplace. First impressions - it seems pretty good, the demo is limited though so you can't do any setup which is a shame as I'd like to have seen how much tinkering is available. One track and limited opponents - not giving much away EA!
-
I'm off to watch it Thursday with some friends who all remember the cartoons :) I've purposely not read the entire thread in case of spoilers but can you tell me if Optimus Prime is in it? :D

Confirmed on Major Nelson's site, EA will release Wing Commander Arena the first 16 player game on the Xbox Live Arcade. You can view screenshots and video's at EA's site here.

The mod dev has been away for a few days but returned and posted a message in the rFactor Central page for his mod that a patch is in the works. -
rFactor MINI Challenge 2006 UK mod released

There seems to be quite a bit of discussion about some of the suspension geometry being out a little, I'm not sure if this is just the developer of the 'realfeel' mod trying to push the mod developer into making the mod compatible with his but he's kinda hijacked the announcement of this Mini mod to highlight this perceived fault. -
There is an online petition here to save the Sierra support and Blackhole Motorsports has news of an event dubbed "Not The Last Lap" to get drivers to log in at 12:00 EST on the 15th of August to show Sierra that the Nascar Racing community is still alive and kicking.

This is one title that has me torn between two formats and its happening more and more these days. I think in the end I'll go for the Xbox 360 version for the hassle free multiplayer and voice comms and not having to tinker with settings which is likely with the PC version. I think it will be more like the other CoD series than perhaps the likes of OFP or Armed Assualt. I played WWII Online for a few years since the closed BETA, closed my account on and off over the years as it just got frustrating. You can play first person style as a soldier, drive vehicles such as trucks, tanks and armoured cars as well as tow artillery pieces and you can also fly a multitude of WWII aircraft. In years gone by the graphics were passable but now they look really dated despite the enhancements made to the terrain and buildings in recent versions. As a WWII sim fan the airwar was frustrating and still is. Massive drops in FPS over towns and cities where I could go from over 100FPS and drop down to single digits. Its a grand project on a huge scale but they desperately need the new graphics engine they have been touting for years.

rFactor MINI Challenge 2006 UK mod released

Thats a rather sexy little number! -
I should have also said that the software is available for both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Vista

Bob Church has announced release candidate 1 of the Vista compatible Control Manager software is now available. You can find out how to obtain this software here at the CH Hangar forums.

Is anyone using one? I'm still on the corded one that came with my Xbox 360 premium bundle but I like the look of the wireless headset as sometimes the plug on my corded headset becomes loose. What is the sound quality like and what is the battery life like? Has it got a USB charger like the gamepads?

Good to see you here Hengist

Just seen this mod for rFactor on rFactorCentral. I'm going to download this later when my broadband is fixed, looks like it could be a lot of fun on a few club circuits, maybe 5 - 10 lap sprint races. Brands Hatch, Mondello and Varano spring to mind as suitable tracks for this class of car. The interiors look quite good, its sometimes an area forgotten in some of the tin-top mods I've tried.
-
Working here, nice clean style too

I think the two games complement each other, Forza 2 is a great road/track game while DiRT is a nice off roading game, my only dissapointment was when I tried a tarmac stage the car handling felt a little odd but other than that its an enjoyable game and I'm glad I bought it (based on Hengist's comments on another forum).

Gamespot has published a preview of RACE '07 which you can find here. A lot of screenshots over there and news of a new helmet view which may be a gimmick or may work well with a TrackIR device.

I play with a joypad at the moment though I'd like to get a wheel for driving games on the 360, shame my G25 doesn't work. I would definately disagree with that magazine comment as Forza 2 IMO is leaps and bounds ahead of anything available on the 360.

Nice mini review, I have this game on the Xbox 360. I thought the visuals are the best yet seen in a sim, maybe the 360 has a little more eye candy but I thought the detail was very good indeed. Agree on the physics though, the handling does not feel as realistic as other games but its good fun and reminds me of the days I used to trade stage times with a workmate who I introduced to PC racing games - Colin McRae being the first he tried.
-
You can play via exchanging IP address though can't you? if not then I imagine a lot of unhappy users who still race in leagues etc. The other option would be to ditch it and give some of the NASCAR mods for rFactor a try, TPSCC mod is rated highly.

HCW has this article showing pictures on the new slimmer (only by 19% mind you) Playstation Portable. Despite using a smaller battery the battery life has been increased by allowing game data to be stored in a cache to limit the ammount of accessing required from the UMD. Looking identical to the old one, I'll not be replacing my 1st generation PSP.

I like the cars, nothing against the big GT class cars in GTR 2 or the open wheel monsters in rFactor for instance but these slower class cars have a nice feel to them, perhaps a little more time behind the wheel to correct things if they go wrong (or perhaps in my case longer to make things worse :) ). There are saloon class mods for rFactor of course but the tracks also look better in RACE than some of the conversions we've seen which tend to be from older sims and therefore not as detailed. I picked up RACE for around £15 below its usual asking price so I don't think it was a waste of money for the entertainment its given. I also managed to pick-up the Caterham add-on free while it was on a promotional offer on Steam - can't argue with that price :)

Thanks for setting up this forum
