  1. NATC A4D (A-4A) Skyhawk

Here is a skin for the A4D (A-4A) Skyhawk from the Naval Air Test Center at Pax River, Md.

Pax River was heavily involved in the early, and future, development of the Skyhawk as it replaced the Skyraider in the light attack and nuclear strike role on board carriers.

  3. NOTU A-4E Skyhawk

My latest Flight Test scheme is an A-4E Skyhawk from the Naval Air Test Center, Ordnance Test Unit, China Lake, circa 1968.

To install, simply drop everything into your MOD folder.

I've included the VHF antenna Russouk2004 made for me, as the TW stock A-4E was missing it. It's already added to the jet via my enclosed DATA.ini file.

Please add the following text to the SquadronList.ini

    [squadronXXX]
    Name=VX31
    DisplayName=VX-31 Red Devils
    Nation=USN

I know Test schemes aren't for everyone, so for those that appreciate the old days of Flight Test, this is for you.

Thanks again to Russouk2004 for the antenna, And Wrench for the assist with the aux fuel tank decal tip. And of course TK for the base files.

  6. A-16 PAVE PENNY pod

An add-on for Wrench's A-16 Attack Falcon. This adds the PAVE PENNY laser receiver to the right chin station. Since there currently isn't a proper PP pod, I sub'd the HTS pod and made it a laser designator and painted it to match the photos I found.

  7. F-4N Phantom II for SF2

F-4N Phantom II for Strike Fighters 2 series.
    23 Oct 2010

This is a continued update of the original F-4N Phantom II released by Column5 and Dave (ex-USAFMTL) way back in 2003. Thanks gents.

Additional thanks goes to Wrench. He released an update pack for this jet, in Jan '09. That got the ball rolling for this latest version. Thank you Sundowner for your awesome skins and Spillone for the excellent J79 sounds.

I went through the data, avionics and cockpit.ini files and upgraded the F-4B_67 to N standards in a similiar fashion as Project Bee Line (see below). Additionally, the loadout.ini was tweaked to properly match a USN configuration.

In 1972, 228 F-4Bs were converted into F-4Ns to bring the B-model up to a similiar to the F-4J and increase their combat capabilty. This project was named "Bee Line". Work was conducted at Naval Air Station North Island. The aircraft received slatted stabs, a new ECM suite (AN/ALQ-126B) plus avionics systems upgrades. The N-model entered fleet use in 1973 and remained in service with the Navy and Marine Corps until 1985. A handful remained post-1985, with the Reserves and test units. Those were eventually converted into QF-4Ns drones.

To install simply allow the extractor to place everything in the main SF2 folder. I've added the VF-111 pilots from Wrench, two of Sundowners skins (slightly edited for the N) and new J79 engine sound files from Spillone. Last time I checked, all had ok'd the use of their work for non-profit use. If I'm wrong, please contact me and I'll eliminate the files.

The canopy open/close is linked to the "0" key.

    ***********************************
    F-105F and G Thunderchief introduction & History
    ***********************************

The F-105F was heavily committed to combat over Southeast Asia. Some were quickly adapted for the "Wild Weasel" air-defense suppression role, fitted with electronics to detect enemy radars and target air defense sites for destruction in advance of strike packages. The original Air Force "Wild Weasel I" was a modified two-seat North American F-100F Super Sabre, but the F-100 wasn't fast enough to keep up with F-105 strike packages, and so the F-105F was selected for the role.

The major elements of the modification were addition of the "APR-25 Radar Homing And Warning (RHAW)" system, which picked up and located radar sites; the "APR-26 Launch Warning Receiver (LWR)", which provided warning of a missile launch; and an "IR-133 Scan Receiver" to search for emitters. The back-seat "electronics warfare officer (EWO)" controlled these devices and had a cockpit CRT to help locate targets.

The first such F-105F "Wild Weasel II", sometimes informally known as an "EF-105F", performed its first flight on 15 January 1966, and the Wild Weasel Thuds were engaged in active combat by the spring of that year. A total of 86 Wild Weasel F-105F conversions were performed.

The Wild Weasel F-105F was armed with the new "AGM-45 Shrike Anti-Radar Missile (ARM)", a modified Sparrow AAM with a radar-homing head, to destroy radar transmitters, and attacked air-defense sites with CBU-24 cluster bombs and other munitions. Sometimes Wild Weasel F-105Fs worked with F-105Ds in "hunter-killer" teams, with the Wild Weasel Thud pinpointing the target and the F-105Ds destroying it.

While other aircraft could avoid air-defense sites when possible, Wild Weasels actually had to attract their attention and take them on. This led to the Wild Weasel motto, which was "YGBSM", standing for "You Gotta Be s**ttin' Me!" Apparently this was the reaction of the first Wild Weasel aircrews when they were told what they were getting themselves into.

Wild Weasel crews were generally gutsy sorts, and they evolved tactics for outflying SAMs launched at them. They would watch for a missile launch, and then fly straight at the SAM at high speed, turning at the last moment. The fast-moving SAM would not be able to turn quickly enough to bring the fighter into the blast radius of its warhead.

Two Wild Weasel F-105F pilots won the highest American military award, the Congressional Medal of Honor. On 10 March 1967, Captain Merlyn F. Dethlefsen was piloting one of four Wild Weasel Thuds paving the way for a strike package. The leader was shot down by anti-aircraft fire, and North Vietnamese MiG-21 fighter made repeated passes on the survivors, trying to force them to dump their ordnance. Dethlefsen pressed home the attack anyway and destroyed the site. All three surviving Wild Weasels returned home with severe damage. Dethlefsen was personally awarded the medal by President Johnson.

On 19 April 1967, Lieutenant Colonel Leo K. Thorsness had completed a Wild Weasel strike when his wingmates were shot down. He was low on fuel but stayed around to cover the air rescue operation, driving of a flight of MiG-17s that tried to interfere. Thorsness shot down one MiG and damaged another. He passed up an opportunity to refuel from a tanker when another aircraft breathing fumes showed up, and landed safely at Ubon, a forward base in Thailand.

On 30 April, Thorsness' F-105 was hit and badly damaged. He and his EWO ejected, Thorsness being badly injured in the process, and were captured by the North Vietnamese. They spent over six years in a North Vietnamese POW camp.

    * 56 Wild Weasel F-105Fs were later updated to an improved "Wild Weasel III" configuration with the designation "F-105G", featuring improved avionics, as well as jammer pods that were faired into the forward fuselage, freeing up the underwing pylons for other stores. 14 of the F-105Gs were further modified to carry the big AGM-78 "Standard Anti-Radar Missile (STARM)", an air-launched variant of the US Navy's "Standard" SAM.

    Original 3D model by Zur.

This is the early F-86K (pre ser number 56-4116) with the narrow chord wing. Later Ks had the extended F-40 wing and earlier ones were retrofitted. I'll have those when the L is done...

Put the plane in your aircraft folder. The skins are semi accurate based on the vague info I have on the K models of W Germany and Italy. Sleepy Sweeper is going to hook up the Norwegian Kilos. ( I think)

Make sure you have the latest wep pack to get the F-86 drop tanks.

Also in an update to the F-86D-45 which fixes the lights postions. Put that file in your main F-86D-45 folder and overwrite.

This is good for taking out bombers. If you are lucky. Dogfighting fighters in it though, forget it. You will be able to see what the pilots of this aircraft had to go through in case of a war. It was not a ground attack aircraft, it was used for intercepts, high speed recon (if ever) and CAP's over the US and Canada. Good luck, you will need it.

  15. Aeroflot An-12

This is a repaint of the Antonov 12, NATO reporting name "Cub". It represents a handful of aircraft actually operated by Aeroflot and the Soviet Air Force.

I've also given you a new data.ini file for the An-12. I've added the ALO-2 chaff and flare dispensers that were fitted to some Cubs used in the Soviet-Afghan War. Additionally I've added the landing lights and a tail beacon.

This can be used with any of the first series TW sims, although with some slight adjustment, be made to work in the second gen sims.

  16. F-100C Super Sabre

Here is my attempt at filling a gap in the WoV sim. I've modified the stock F-100D to represent the earlier F-100C.

I've tweaked the FM a bit to reflect a slightly better climb rate, higher landing speed, and smaller rudder. Of course, these aren't all, but just a few things.

Included are new high-res skins representing F-100Cs from the 120th TFS, 140th TFW Colorado ANG during their 1968 deployment to Phan Rhang AB, and the 188th TFS, 150th TFW New Mexico ANG at Tuy Hoa AB. I've added 12-14 serials that are accurate for each squadron.

    Special thanks to:
Sundowner for the use of his high-res camo for the base
WombRaider for the canopy opening mod
    Kout for the Hangar screen
Wrench for the tips on light positioning and pilot
Spillone104 for the new engine sounds (use the J-75-1 sound in this pack http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=5910 )
    And TK for this sim

This has only been tested in Wings over Vietnam with the Sept 08 patch. Since it uses the stock F-100D lods, it should work in SFP1, WoV and WoE. However I do not accept any responsibility if something happens to your computer if you use this. It shouldnt, but I'm covering my butt.

    Enjoy!
