smile... cheers Gabilaser, but i clarified this already. No disrespect towards anyone was intended. you did.. but relax.... i found this.. vertigo flight sim the flight model is superior to anything i could hope to write, and it's converting over to Angelscript nicely. i'm balancing the project with earning a living at the moment. a situation that many indie developers face. it would have been nice to have some assistance, but if it is not forthcoming, it's not the end of the world. programmers cost between 21,000 <--> 35,000 in the UK. it's understandable that they are all busy, or not interested in a free project. completely. i'll be more vocal (and sign up @ sourceForge) when there is something more worth showing. regards to you. kendo

back, and getting on with it... aided by duty free cigarettes and genuine Italian coffee. wehey!! we flew in over the alps, which were covered in snow. what incredible beauty... they are breath-takingly awesome when viewed from a height. vast, too. cheers for the faith, lurker people. regards to you. ken

fantastic. found this Russian site which has enough views to build her.... flea babel fish translation of the model makers comments.. agreed... lol.. thanks Gr.Viper..

Hi Thomas, people on CA have been very kind, and encouraging. there's no "lack of support". to expand on the remarks above, I felt it was better to spend time on coding, than posting stuff here. which would not push the game onwards. Cerberos06 is helping with the campaign data (thankyou), and other areas of the game are progressing fine. i'm sorry if i've appeared negative, or dejected. I'm grateful to Combat Ace, and it's helpful users. people know what's in the pipeline, so it's up to the next level now. when there's something interesting to post, i'll be back. appreciate your post... thankyou. regards to you.

Hey Catch.... I don't drink.... and i'm still hard at it. :) It's the gigging season (i'm in Turin on thursday). still waiting on the engine update for heightmapped terrain and shader support. but the flight model is coming on well. bit surprised at people's lack of enthusiasm to create something NEW, which is why I've not been posting here much. no worries, m8. it's unfolding nicely.

the Lohner DD Type AA "Spuckerl" (1916-1917) she isn't small, either... what a beast.... :)

WWI sim - Based on the IL-2 engine announced!
kendo353 replied to ArgonV's topic in WWI Flight Sim Discussion
it was locked? for devlopers only (i presumed). game *looks* lovely, but i hope it plays better than IL2. (the bouncy planes didn't really do it for me). why didn't they do the Eastern front? is it not as commercially viable? would love to virtually fly a Sikorsky. i'm really looking forward to this game. -
cheers for the linkage, smosh. i'd been put off ww1 colour films by the unsympathetic and splodgy hand-tinting which had gone on in the past, but these look great.

dude.. your post didn't say anything ? mis-click ?

@ Catch... yeah, things are fine here, thanks. still diddling around with lift & drag equations, but progess has been "OK". I try to keep one day a week free for modelling, to offset the brainache. :) @ GR.Viper sorry dude... the Spad XII got bumped down the list, after i discovered this beauty. I want one !! lol..

thanks for that... some people are uncomfortable with it, and it's nice to hear different points of view. respect for the open minded attitude. I'm like you... i have and play most of them, too. i don't understand people who maintain that their chosen preference is "best". excellent point, daryld. it's very hard, if not impossible, for one game to contain absolutely everything. nod... I have routines for an occasional engine failure on takeoff, but stuff like getting hit by a lightning bolt is a bit harder to cater for. also, if you start off early in the war, you may be armed with only a service revolver... a couple of dozen single shots, and then fly home... it might not please some people (who are used to rapid fire chaingun action), but it was what the early aviators did, wasn't it? that should be fairly easy to model in... when stuff explodes it has a burst radius, and strength of force. which makes low level bombing "interesting" too. :) commodore 64? if you scroll up a bit, this game is going to have some form of pilot interaction too. it won't be thrust in your face if you're not interested in it and just want to fly missions. but its there to add more depth, if you do like a changing backstory with each campaign. I seem to recall a review that savaged the flight model. said it was virtually unflyable? Flying Corps Gold does that to me. :( need to build a Win95 box for these old gems. not at all... thanks for chipping in. with your wealth of experience, i appreciate the input. regards ken

sure... the game would suck if it didn't have it. most control surfaces are moved by code, but it's not a problem to trigger an animation to play whenever it's needed.

(clickbigger) You don't see many moustaches of that calibre these days. Bravo, Monsieur Deperdussin.
-
shouts:- DEPERDUSSIN @ top of voice i read this on the journeys.. "The Aeroplane speaks" by H.Barber. from the gutenberg archive. after a global search/replace of the word 'Drift' for 'Drag', everything made perfect sense. it was more fun to read than "practical flying", too.
-
cheers dude... I'm finishing off the Deperdussins at the moment, but Spad 12 is next up. Thanks for the info/research. appreciated. edit-- > Rosebud deserves an extra special THANKYOU, because his site is an amazing resource. i've visited it many times already, and recieved a lot of inspiration from it. bless him...

yeah?, me too. hope it goes well for you, Smosh.

slowly, but surely, Gr.Viper. JSBsim looked promising, but i'm trying to come up with a homebrewed solution which doesn't rely on external code. I have these functions, which should do the job.. SetLinearVelocity( Vector (x,y,z) ); SetAngularVelocity( Vector (x,y,z) ); AddForce( Vector (x,y,z) ); but a lot of the equations on flight dynamics sites are in GREEK... (which means i get a bit bogged down and confused some times). sticking with it though.

if your squadron flies bombers, yes.

I'm doing the taube-like 1911 version.... but you're right, she sure is a beauty... I grabbed some plans last night....looks like she'll be fun to build. nice wings. thanks for the suggestion, catch. just an HP400, but it's not skinned yet (same state as the Caprioni). if you know of any earlier variants, could you post a link or picture? cheers..
-
"standing on the shoulders of giants", catch. started out making spaceships, but found biplanes more enjoyable. the internet is a fantastic research tool for antique plans, photographs, and related info. and i've learnt a huge amount from the models and artwork which have been donated to the public domain by kindhearted artists. on the drawing board :- Deperdussin, Ansaldo SVA5, Macchi M5, Spad XII, Salmson bomber, Austrian floatplanes. if you can think of anything else you'd like to see.... please list it here... cheers...
-
Hi Gr.Viper, thats how they're working now. i'm aiming to have a different hud for each nation in external views, so that i can get the game up and running. cockpit views will be different for each plane, naturally (because you will be sat in the plane model). but i don't want to get sucked into making uber realistic cockpits for the next 8 years. i'm trying to find the middle ground between fun/realism. sounds like a nightmare... but i'll give it a go.. it's just a squashed Spad7 with some frilly bits and a big gun. lol.. thanks for the encouragement.
-
Hi Folks.. updated list 56k modem owners beware. Obviously, some of them need more love.. but you can see what's in the game at a glance now. please feel free to add suggestions for planes you would like to see added... regards to all. kendo

lol... great tune, good idea.... very apt, with the "Flying Circus" reference too. i'll see if it fits in. i wouldn't want people to think the whole game is a joke, though making them smile every time they load the game up might not be a bad thing. thanks for the links, Gr.Viper. not a composer i knew very much about, apart from the Liberty Bell. being honest with you... "soundtrack" is the cherry on the cake. there is a whole bunch of stuff to be done before that day comes. appreciate the suggestions though. thanks guys...

'fates' suggested it. :) theres not too much to report at the moment, Smosh. I have to wait until after GDC for the new engine update. Cerebus06 is helping to flesh out the historical campaign data, and the personality system is coming along well. but the flight model is pretty much (forgive the pun) up in the air. JSBsim looks it will interface nicely, and GabiLaser said he may be able to help with that. Optimism level --> 95%

isn't he the actor who played Captain Walker in the "Tommy" film? i've been meaning to purchase Howard Hughs's "Hells Angels" for a while, so i'll get them both at once. thanks for the recommend, Mac. but there is the possibility we may get spanked for sampling licensed material. I might be able to serrepticiously lift some "background ambience" samples, but whole themes or scenes may attract unwanted attention from lawyers. As it's a free project, it might slip under their radar, but it's still a gamble. i like the sound of that. a cheery note to juxtapose Satie's minimalism. a good rag is every bit as timeless. cheers for the suggestion. @ Gr.Viper my mistake. when i've visited SF before, it was to get source code to learn from. i wrongly assumed that was all that they did there.
