Turkish F-4 down on the Border with Syria....
Atreides replied to Slartibartfast's topic in Military and General Aviation
Point taken. Still no news about the pilots though. All you see/hear on the news is sabre rattling. One would hope that atleast something would have been mentioned as to their fate. Bah, politics and politicians. -
What he said. Very cool pics, especially the Antonov. Thank you.

As per Air Forces monthly 15 for the Indian Naval air arm. 45 on order. Nothing compared to the might of the US navy super carriers but then no one else is close to the USN. But its perfect for Indian needs. Keep in mind last two carriers were all ex RN. Thats what the Indian navy wants and realistically those are the type of carriers the Indian Navy needs for its blue water navy. EDIT:- Wait, in the second pic if you look close is that a vodka bottle in the reflection. -
LOL ! Yeah, that was a classic scene.

It was a tin can Cheetah, Ghost and not a fast jet. How much of a bet do you want that the PAF would have relished the oppurtunity to bring down a fast jet especially if there a chance that it might be a MKI. A slow moving target like the Cheetah allows for more time to react reasonably than a jet does. Now I'm not privy to how AA units work and their procedures so its just my 0.02 cents. -

GTK, point being that its unrealistic if not worse to think that if all those countires in the ME got **** themselves in all out war that somehow Europe and the USA would not get involved. -

I know what you're saying Ghost but no one knowns what happened exactly. What if this was a breakdown in communication, not following procedures etc. For all we know this could be major screw up by a panicked or an over zealous AD crew. No one is privy to the exact details of what went transpired. In light of recent events in Syria, even protecting ones airspace will be viewed negatively by the international communtity. Also, with regards to the crew being warned wouldn't the black box reveal the details once recovered ? So at this point its a case of he said.. -

As revolting as Assad and his goons might be, the fact is that the aircraft violated sovereign airspace and was shot down. It was a military aircrat that was shot down not a civilian one. Which country would allow another countries aircraft to fly into its airspace without an intercept or SAM batteries locking on ? What were the Syrians supposed to do ask nicely ? BS, Turkey got caught being naughty and the jet was shot down. ANy other nation would have done something similar. -

That soviet line was not supposed to make sense JM tis was supposed to be just a silly one. On a serious note I cant wait to see the MIG-29 KUB launching off the carrier with a loadout. Finally the Indian Navy gets some reach. -
No, No you misunderstand, I'm sure Urban will, what I'm saying is that will he imitate Stallones err tone ? Sadly the plot is a rip off of the Indonesian action flick The Raid:Redemption.

Not just in America it was big news in Canada as well. Hope he is paid in kind in prison.

International Air Power review. Great non-fictional(ofcourse) reads. Somewhat on the pricey side but 730 pages for 80 plus USD not bad. Plenty of detailed information and diagrams etc. Website book link for those interested -
