It is a private company, but I don't know who is funding them. One of the founders is Dutch, don't know him, and it seems that at least one fighter pilot, younger brother Peter of our former Chief of Staff Lt. gen Dick Berlijn, is involved too... They get their Flankers from Belo Russia, including later versions, the total number being no less then 30+ But that whole thing is hearsay evidence. As I said, we'll see.... Hou doe, Derk

Thank you Ojcar !! My brother will love it as it was his weapon during his military service with the AAA in 1958-1959 and later during his duty as reserve officer. They coupled it in the beginning of the '60's to the Super Fledermaus radar. With some tweaking they could point the gun directly at the target and they demonstrated this to a couple of KLu pilots with manoeuvering Hunters and Starfighters as targets. The pilots could look through the barrel and the aircraft were in sight all the time.................... They were highly impressed and a bit less optimistic about their chances in the face of AAA . The 40L70 was further modernised in the Netherlands, later coupled to the Flycatcher radar and kept in service untill 2005 in the SHORAD system for airbase defence. Saw demonstrated during an KLu Open Day where it fired a number of training rounds. Highly impressive !! The first Bofors AA guns were introduced during late '30's in the Neth. Navy, meaning that in some form it served for almost 70 years in our country !!!!!! :good: Hou doe, Derk

The F 104 G equiped Leeuwarden interceptor squadrons of the KLu used them very often. In fact the standard QRA configuration was 2 tiptanks and the fuselage mounted double AIM9-J.(though indeed the position is exposed to FOD damage just behind the nose wheel:blink: ) The tactical squadrons used the centerline station for the practice bomb / rocket launcher and the recce squadron mounted the Orpheus pod on the centerline. Great, thank you for a great historic skin. Had a nice chat last year at the Volkel Airshow with the Vulcan demo pilot, Martin Withers. He is the same one that flew the epic first Black Buck mission during the Falklands War........
