And a lot of other gear, if R in RF-4E stands for anything. -
Turkish F-4 down on the Border with Syria....
Gr.Viper replied to Slartibartfast's topic in Military and General Aviation
F-4 down, Fishbed defection... It's like the golden days of 70's jet combat down there. -
Silly thought...
Gr.Viper replied to Gr.Viper's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
My personal coding attempts never went beyond "Hello, World" in VB. Of course, RAM hook would be more powerful, but those things work well only for games that haven't been patched in years (Red Baron 3D). I wonder, if a minor cockpit ini edit can be fed into SF2 in the pre-mission screen before you hit the fly button, after you know the map, the plane, the weapon of choice etc. -

New DLC: F-14A skin pack

No Kiev CAG in the background on takeoff? -
Are the scores related to actual goals in any way in modern football?

Enemy AI fuel consumption
Gr.Viper replied to hrc's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
They don't really need the map edge to fly sideways, sometimes their FM bugs out. Even bombers are not immune. -
Oh, yes the media here keep going on about good chances and good passes and oh so many possibilities to score, officials babble that playing against a stronger team Russia would've won... I'm so glad I don't actually follow any sports.

New DLC: F-14A skin pack
Gr.Viper replied to Viggen's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Earlier DLCs did have minor mesh alterations. Now we get skin edits. Next, I suppose, they'll offer pure ini DLC. -
I heard, some Russian fans were prancing around the city with Soviet symbols all over them. Again, not the best way to improve relations.

May 2012 patch
Gr.Viper replied to Sundowner's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
May 2012 I've seen Fishbed pilots ejecting after as much as a close blast. Literally no traces of damage on the plane. It's like TK is trying to balance damage model by letting a drunk gremlin flip a kill switch of a plane on a whim. -
Cloud cast shadows ?

That sounds medical and nasty -
Cloud cast shadows ?
Gr.Viper replied to squid's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Don't push your luck, the way things are going if TK adds cloud shadows, that will come at the price of having every single cloud hardcoded frozen at a fixed height and coordinates. -

I've seen a BearD set on wing-to-wing fire by two 'winders. -
Solution for low-level autopilot fun?
Gr.Viper replied to smithcorp's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
In stock NA campaign flying F-4E above the ridges is more stressful. You get swarmed and the interceptors love to walk you home. -
May 2012 patch
Gr.Viper replied to Sundowner's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Oh, my element didn't jump up like cats in a bathtub when I took our F-4s to 15m AGL. Other 8 planes couldn't stand that. Ultimately none of the wingmen dropped their bombs on Kiev, instead becoming obsessed with shooting down the now operational Yaks. -
May 2012 patch

The fix list is really small for the development time. Under the hood stuff? Lockouts? -

Venting and Ranting
Gr.Viper replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
As one of our greatest classic writers (Gogol) put it "A Russian person should be thanked even for the mere intention." When it comes to announcements and PR, the SOP is to treat Russian studios as standup philosophers until they deliver the goods. -

Remember CAS in Mig Alley where the entire formation would go down on a target group, as opposed to high hippies maaaybe attacking the tanks if they recall what their primary target is? Remember manuals so detailed you needed an evening to read them, filled to the brim with gameplay explanations and historical trivia? As opposed to third-party forum threads providing step by step guides on basic missile use? As opposed to seeing rows of stats and still guessing, which AI pilot won't be a complete idiot in the upcoming mission? Remember patch notes? -

Not now, after the sample lods got locked... I have a theory that TW extractor simply checks file extensions to see what to ignore. Since the terrain is LODs, it gets shoved aside like the aircraft models. There's no deep meaning or business decision, they just can't be bothered to code a smarter extractor or re-label the files. -
