Initailly the media reported what you read above. Now some quote officials saying that it was a secret storage facility for discarded materials and equipment, the fire was put out in 2 hours and the damage was minimal (just a dozen stores). Conveniently enough the finances section of the unit burned down as well. :wink2:

MoD reports that there is no Navy air base there at all. Of course now there isn't. Authorities of one of the regions are to stand trial because they chose not to take any preventive measures which led no numerous deaths in fires. They don't care about population, why would they keep an eye on a storage facility? But, hey, the president cancelled his summer vacation and is holding a meeting on the situation so everything will be fine, right? ... Right? Fires map http://pozhar.yandex.ru/

If it were just that they'd probably put the fire out, but currently forest and peat fires are counted by hundreds and they threaten villages, towns and a nuclear research centre while firefighters are severely undermanned and extinguished fires pop back up the moment the earth dries. Also let's not forget about oil refineries. This night I heard a loud blast and in the morning read reports that the largest refinery which is usuallly clearly seen from my window (ATM visibility is 100m) had a fire put out on of its pumps. Somehow I doubt is was a simple fire.

*hit happens. The firemen seem to be more concerned with nuclear facility ATM. That and villages.

Heh.. I hope that that Russian Navy aircraft storage facility burning down with 200 aircraft worth nearly $700 million in it won't affect the exercise.

All Cental region is ablaze and over 2000 troops are fighting fires near Sarov Russian Federal nuclear center, former Arzamas-16, sister city of Los Alamos and the location of our nuke museum. Firefighting aircraft can't see s**t in the smoke and drop loads at given coordinates flying quite a long way since there aren't any lange bodies of water nearby. My, is Mother Russia hot this year

What's the difference between a UAV and a plane in the game? No one dies either way. The first game had afterburers on Harrier, so they might take some more liberties

Does anybody know when was AA-11 actually introduced?
Gr.Viper replied to SFP1Ace's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
When you find so many discrepanices, it's not the question of how it really was, but whether or not you want it in the game. No longer required or no longer used even if present? -

Is it possible to limit supply to all squadrons so that they get a huge stock of older missiles but only occasional shipments of R-73? This way they'd use older missiles most of the time but sometimes surprise you. -

Make R-73 a part of the standard loadout but supply only a few campaign squadrons with it. Mark their location on the map and feel uneasy flying into their territory. -

A Russian book on AA missiles says R-73 entered service June 1984 but no info on deployment. -

It's not the first Hind's nose job. Maybe somebody should give her back her old nose? -
Peat fires my ass.. Now there are forest fires and burning houses in villages and small tows all over Central Russia. I'm very happy that wooden Moscow was burned down 200 years ago.

SAMPAN appears in antiship missions everytime
Gr.Viper replied to dsawan's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
IIRC, anti-ship mission only spawns convoys made out of Cargo Ship and Tanker types. Try switching sampan type in data.ini to an entry from patrol boat or warships. -

SF Manual Ideas.......
Gr.Viper replied to Stick's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
We could compile an SF2 Community Manual with systems and campaign functions, gameplay settings and the very basics of mod installation, merge it into a pdf book and host it somewhere. The amount of info on stock game that is not in the stock manual is considerable. -

This is today's The worst thing about a peat bog fire is that it doesn't burn on the surface but smolders deep beneath it, sucking the oxygen from cavities in peat and getting it from the chemical reacton. The areas should've been flooded when the heat started.
