  1. Good to know that the reserve units aren't forgotten. Btw, are the skins for the F-8D and F-8E interchangeable?
  2. Well, this idea isn't really that new. The new USMC Bell UH-1Y and AH-1Z are based on the same concept.
  3. IMHO "F-5E Lightning" is a quite confusing title...for a moment I had thought (and hoped for) that someone had made the recon version of the P-38 Lightning. The skin looks nice, though.
  4. Also known as 'WWII New Guinea Full Scale Terrain'. Check the Terrain downloads.
  5. Well, about twenty years of further development should have lead to some improvement with regard to its capabilities. There are worlds between the AIM-9B and the AIM-9M. AIM-9Bs do hit...but only under certain conditions, most of which have been already mentioned here. But in my opinion the most vital aspect is to get as close as possible, let's say 1-2 nm, not more. Unfortunately you seldom find yourself in such a favorable position.
  6. Badfrank and some other said that the stock Sundowners tailcode refers to deployments with CVW 10 in 1967 and 68 and I pointed out that with regard to the deployment of the Sundowners in the stock Rollling Thunder campaign (1965 with CVW 2) a different tailcode ('NE') would have been more accurate. But I guess that C5 is quite close to the truth when he says that certain decal designs are not determined by historical accuracy, but rather by aesthetic considerations.
  7. Suggestion: Look up the WOVCampRT_data file. Search for VF111 and check which carrier they operate from. Hint: It's not the Intrepid. Interesting enough, Mersky's F-8 Crusader Units of the Vietnam War says AH, but the Navy's own list says just CVW-10. Besides, I don't mean to claim that the Sundowners never used the tailcode AK, all I'm saying is that with regard to the stock WOV Rolling Thunder campaign the 'NE' tailcode would have been more representative. End of story.
  8. I guess that depends on a) your definition of 'landing on the White House lawn' and b) whether the Hornet is supposed to fly again.
  9. Point taken. But within the stock WOV campaigns the Sundowners fly the Crusaders only in 1965 from the Midway, thus their tailcode should then be 'NE'. Besides, it's interesting that in the WOV campaign the Sundowners transit to the F-4B in 1966... Ah well, nothing is perfect.
  10. All those Marine squadrons stationed at Da Nang used the same Crusaders, meaning that when one unit rotated out their Crusaders were then used by the replacement unit. And yes, these Crusaders were F-8E models. Actually the Sundowners had a few more deployments to Vietnam...and changed their tail code quite often: Oct 63 - Jul 64: NH1xx USS Kitty Hawk Mar 65 - Nov 65: NE4xx USS Midway May 66 - Nov 66: AH1xx USS Oriskany May 67 - Dec 67: AH1xx USS Intrepid* - Detachment for CVS Air Wing Jun 67 - Jan 68: AH1xx USS Oriskany Jun 68 - Feb 69: AK1xx USS Intrepid* - Detachment for CVS Air Wing Feb 69 - Sep 69: AH1xx USS Ticonderoga Mar 70 - Dec 70: AJ1xx USS Shangri-La What I'm trying to say here is that the 'AH' tailcode would have been far more representative than the 'AK' tailcode...
  11. New assault rifle

You may call it an M4forgery, but it's not an M4.
  12. The AI wingmen of your flight will use these weapons...sure, not in a very smart way, but they do use them. Besides, in case you haven't noticed SFP1/WOV/WOE was never meant to be a post 70s aerial combat sim and from this perspective you can't blame TK for that he didn't incorporate all the features found in other sims featuring 4th and 5th generation fighters. Furthermore I wouldn't expect much changes in this department. IIRC TK has already said that WOI won't bring some sort of avionics80 file. Which is not that surprising, given its purported time frame...
  13. Since guided missiles (like the Maverick and the Paveway) were added with the SP4, TK probably did not implement a proper routine for AI flights to utilize these new types of weapons. In fact AI pilots in general have no idea how to use smart bombs. They just drop them as if they were ordinary dumb bombs...
  14. But how does the editing of the nations.ini alter the alignment of the target areas? Or does their alignment not matter at all?
  15. New assault rifle

    Well, it's an AR-15, California-sytle.
  16. This would be the GermanyCE_targets file, found in the respective terrain folder. You do have a point about single missions, so I would not actually advise you to edit this file right away. Nevertheless, this is what I would try to solve the problem you described.
  17. It's just a guess, but I think you have the reverse the allegiance of the target areas. (i.e. FRIENDLY becomes ENEMY and vice versa) But this would cause some chaos if you still want to play the stock campaigns, too.
  18. Sweeeeet. Thank you, Mirage Factory! Btw, will the MF release the templates for the F-8?
  19. I'm not sure that every user of SF/WOV/WOE is aware of the vast amounts of mods that have been released for this series. Based on your argument it is almost pointless to do any kind of scenario. Why not just sell some sort of developer kit and wait for the mod-community to come up with some content? SSI once made such a "build your own AD&D game".
