  1. That statement almost single handedly sums up the decline of the British Aerospace industry over the past 60 years. They used to produce real, practical innovation at every turn. Then after a while, political, then industrial, then economic pressure influenced (with the associated lack of political foresight) then led them to buying US equipment augmented slightly to assist UK industry somewhat. Now it just can't compete and this multinational approach won't either, if projects like this and the Eurofighter are the future. It's a shame really, because this will be a great aircraft, just like the Eurofighter. It's just that the political and industrial processes are killing it. Death by a thousand paper cuts. Something all the military services in the UK are experiencing too...

National aircraft programs in Europe are no longer sustainable, due to the rise of costs and the (somewhat related) reduction of demand. France may seem to be an exception here, but given the desperate attempts of the French government to find additional buyers for their Rafale that exception might not last much longer.

This may be the armchair aircraft designer in me speaking, but while I'm willing to admit that the Eurofighter might be a decent design I still think that the A400M is either too big for a mere tactical transport or too small for a strategic airlifter. And I do believe that it's still plagued by numerous technical difficulties despite the fact that it did not fall apart during its first flight....

  2. The A400M program has been a disaster from day one, but sadly I do believe that they won't kill it off. EADS knows that eventually they will receive the billions they "ask" for, although I doubt that this will be the end of it...

  3. Well, after 11 months of working hard on this skin I have managed to make some progress.

At that pace it will probably be ready for release in about six months or so.

(Note that I did not say "two weeks!"....after all, I try to make exact statements about upcoming releases...then again, some parts of this post should not be taken too serious...)

  4. It IS difficult.

Tell me how to change the Sidewinder and Inner Wing Tank stations through the loadout screen if I want something different?

    You CAN'T under your system.

You can either have asymmetric loads, or you can have control of all the pairs of pylons. NOT both.

    FC

I know you couldn't change them, but then again, does the Super Hornet carry anything else but Sidewinders on their wingtip stations? Also, and I admit that I'm no expert regarding the potential loadout options here, I have yet to see that anything else but fuel tanks are carried on the Inner wing stations.

Sure, it's a compromise, but I still believe that it would allow asymetirical loadouts at an acceptable price.

  5. Re: Assymentrical loadouts.... not sure if it's doable. I asked FC if he could, but pretty much got the response of "not doable" I would prefer the main wing pylons, but your INI suggestion did tricks of course, so if possible yea, if not ce la vie..

Doesn't sound so difficult to me

Outer Wing station - weapon group 1,2

Middle Wing station - weapon group 3,4

Sparrow stations - weapon group 5

Center tank station - weapon group 6

Sidewinder wingtip stations - Weapon Group 7

Inner Wing tank stations - Weapon Group 8

Load the wingtip Sidewinders and the Wing tanks through the loadout.ini. That should work.

  6. I did not know the f-22 was on the chopping block as we speak.... that the pentagon would want to kill the F-22 in favor of the F-35 seems to be a stupid move, the f-35 may be stealthy and may be a better precision bomber but whan it comes to air combat,( judging from what info is available to the public) the 22 kicks the 35's butt in every category that matters in ACM.

The problem with ACM is that it seems to be of no importance at the moment....why else was the Raptor being rebranded to F/A for awhile?

  7. For some reason I don't expect much from these re-releases, but I'm curious what new features TK has implemented. I'll probably pick up SF2 and SFI, but I'm not sure about getting WoV/WoE again.

making them all interconnectable from the start sounds great! However, I'm worried about this folder structure thing. Vista is supposed to love shoving everything in the "users" directory without any option to be anywhere else (vista users, please correct me if I'm wrong) I REALLY REALLY don't want the structure getting changed and having s**t on my system drive, which I insist on keeping as clean as possible for easy reformat and reinstall. I HATE having games store stuff in my documents on my C:\ drive, it's almost filled to the limit as is!

Unfortuantely that's what Vista-certified games do. The system files (which aren't supposed to be changed) are installed into Program Files, while all the savegames, screenshots, configuration files, etc.... basically all kind of files that need to be created or changed during use are stored in the Users directory.
