  1. "The AAIB, sensitive to the needs of the industry including Boeing, Rolls Royce, British Airways and other Boeing 777 operators and crews, is issuing this update to provide such further factual information as is now available. As previously reported, whilst the aircraft was stabilised on an ILS approach with the autopilot engaged, the autothrust system commanded an increase in thrust from both engines. The engines both initially responded but after about 3 seconds the thrust of the right engine reduced. Some eight seconds later the thrust reduced on the left engine to a similar level. The engines did not shut down and both engines continued to produce thrust at an engine speed above flight idle, but less than the commanded thrust. Recorded data indicates that an adequate fuel quantity was on board the aircraft and that the autothrottle and engine control commands were performing as expected prior to, and after, the reduction in thrust. All possible scenarios that could explain the thrust reduction and continued lack of response of the engines to throttle lever inputs are being examined, in close cooperation with Boeing, Rolls Royce and British Airways. This work includes a detailed analysis and examination of the complete fuel flow path from the aircraft tanks to the engine fuel nozzles."
  2. we will fight in the shade! ....
  3. because the player can use them. afaik it only affects ag ordnance so intercepting big bomber formations & defending the fleet (in air to air terms) shouldn't be impacted.

  5. This is my guess (& I'm just as likely to be way off track): TK looks at what he imagines that will sell either to a wider audience (most of whom may never visit a forum & know what is available or whom don't want to mess around with adding/editing files) or what he can sell to a publisher as appealing to a wider audience. We know that he's not planning to go head to head with IL2/Falcon 4 (or indeed LOMAC). So, what gaps are there that you think that the general public might be interested in buying? Vietnam was an obvious one especially as he already had the F-4. Having decided on a scenario he then has a budget - so much for coding, so much for a new terrain, so much for new aircraft models etc. That's why he has always said that he would love to do some other/more aircraft, more features etc. but e.g. he only has the budget for a couple of new user flyables per new release.
  6. from the AAIB initial report "Initial indications from the interviews and Flight Recorder analyses show the flight and approach to have progressed normally until the aircraft was established on late finals for Runway 27L. At approximately 600 ft and 2 miles from touch down, the Autothrottle demanded an increase in thrust from the two engines but the engines did not respond. Following further demands for increased thrust from the Autothrottle, and subsequently the flight crew moving the throttle levers, the engines similarly failed to respond. The aircraft speed reduced and the aircraft descended onto the grass short of the paved runway surface." btw it was the copilot who landed the aircraft.
  7. Eurofighter pulled out in December. Interestingly the Swedes are complaining that the offsets being required from Lockheed aren't as high as those that they are being asked for.
  8. current rumour is that all power & electrics failed & the crew glided it in ... waiting for real facts though.

  10. Mulitple Monitor Display

Joe recently did a review for SimHQ. He originally tested the analogue version & iirc reckons that it's a bit like TracKIR in that you won't want to go back to being without it.
  11. Motherboards... The best for $$

nVidia chipsets for Intel suck though - if they didn't have SLI locked to their chipset nobody would buy them.

  15. He really needs to learn to spell or at least use a spell checker... There's also at least 1 factual error though which leads me to believe that there maybe others in areas that I don't have the knowledge to spot.

what do you need in terms of features (e.g. firewire, RAID, Crossfire/SLI ability etc.)? I guess the $100 limits you quite a bit so probably something P35 based.
  19. What exactly is BVR?

as sparko says it will vary according to aircraft, aspect, background, weather conditions etc. I know from sitting beside runways whilst listening to a scanner that I can usually pickup an F-4 sized fighter on a straight in approach against a cloudy sky usually ~6 miles (more if he's smoky). In plan form against a blue sky you can add a few miles especially if there are any reflections. The problem with some sims is that with current monitor resolutions etc. the realistic size representation drops below 1 pixel at simulated distances that in real life they would still be viewable.
  20. Ok, it's not really rust but it did make a catchy title. It is corrosion though. http://www.sltrib.com/ci_7236130
  21. & the volume saving should also carry over to lifecycle costs (apart from the fact that no doubt the F-35 is designed to need less maintenance than preceding aircraft) because there will be larger nos. of spares produced (hence hopefully cheaper) plus setting up, training etc. local maintenance operations again gets cheaper per aircraft as more are supported.
