  1. HITR for Dial-up Users

Works fine using a flash drive. I installed the whole of P3 that way let alone HITR.
  2. No comment [sunglasses firmly in place and open palm held up to shield face]
  3. I can understand it from my own experience but whether that pertains to RAFL's situation I don't know. Sometimes you just burnout either with or without personal real life issues contributing to the malaise. Been there done that. And I've seen the same happen to many people over the years who just "drop out". It's a natural course of life for things not to go smoothly at times and it's those times when you refocus on important life concerns and perhaps change direction completely. I wish RAFL the best. He will return when he's ready. If he doesn't, that's his choice, and is to be respected.
  4. Hey Bletch that is a very kind offer and I thank you very much for the thought. However, I've just located a first edition copy for 80 bucks in a Melbourne bookstore and ordered it ! Hopefully I will have it in my dirty mits in a few days. I'm well pleased That saves you sending it all the way down to Oz anyway. RAFL may take you up on the kind offer though.
  5. You can't handle the truth. So just keep going to your biased agenda-driven conspiracy sites along with your extremely vocal right wing conservative wingnut fruitcakes. You are learning nothing but hate. Have a go at me by all means. A personal attack. Fine. But don't peddle your bullschit political beliefs here please.
  6. Why has it taken so long to publish his letters ?
  7. The "Twins" are uploaded

One never tires of big things .... thanks for the link Winston.
  8. Pol that is one rare and expensive book and I've been itching to get my grubby mits on it for years. As I've always considered you the best looking and most astute of the devs along with being a devoted family man, can I have a lend Any copies going cheap anywhere ?
  9. The "Twins" are uploaded

It does sound like fun Winston. Iv'e just recently acquired an internet connection at home so that's the first step to get into this online lark ! Is there a link somewhere that includes everything you need (h/w, s/w, accessories ?) and what to do to join online ? However, having said that, my biggest reservation is I'm "down under" and the rest of you are generally "up over" so lag is a concern to me so it may not be worthwhile. Until our govt builds a new nationwide fibre optic fast network (to replace our aging old copper technology), unfortunately Australia is stuck with abysmally slow internet speeds
  10. WWI Aviation

Sometimes you just get lucky Duce. XP RULES !
  11. WWI Aviation

Wow ! That is exceptional high quality historic footage. I particularly like the Se5 footage at 4.40 OFF has used a few of the scenes too and there's some yanks loading bombs ! Shame Unc can't see it. He'd love it BTW, Pol's advice is sound to kick start it
  12. Which Time period do you fly?

OMG I hear the sound of those awful whiny little jet things with nary a prop to be seen ! I think I'm gonna be .... I voted WW1 (or earlier).
  13. It's official....

Attaboy CJ ! We need more young WW1 simmers to keep the tradition going. I hope you have all the notes and instructions ready. There will be a test
  14. Crash at Mission Start

Does OFF run on DX11 ?
  15. I admit it. I have been remiss, lax and negligent. I have only just noticed Pol has a WIP aircraft as his avatar. What is it
  16. Okay while everyone's in a video mood I may as well post this here. It was originally posted at simhq last year and was the last decent "epic" I made. Some of you have already seen it no doubt but I thought I should spread the love for the newbies. I hope you chaps find it enjoyable.
  17. EEK..Toe-curlingly baaaad

You do yourself a disservice sir. Why I think they're all pretty goo ..... say wait a minute .... what's with the SE5 .... OMG !!!
  18. A tough one Rabu Didn't vote because it can't be defined by any one of your options imo. There are positives and negatives. OFF for instance has driven people to seek more about WW1 and discover the truth in all its ugliness (the gorgeous aeroplanes excluded of course) and has given them new respect for the combatants on all sides along with the abject futility and waste of war. That's a good thing. And they've learnt something. On the other hand, some of the more unbalanced (or just plain dumb-arses) in todays society are probably influenced by violent war games and perhaps can't separate reality from fantasy and may act out their fantasies. Desensitization is another buzzword for it. But then again that could simply be a heap of theoretical psyco-babble encouraged by the greedy, unscupulous therapist buffoons who love conning naive and/or trend-driven people out of vast amounts of money. Hey it's a business already. So I don't think violent war games are necessarily a big threat on their own except perhaps for a very small minority. The big problem in todays society for me is the scourge of potent back-yard hatched "designer" drugs taken in tandem with violent war games or racing sims and the jerks, drug-addled and brain-dead trendies that think they can replicate their heroic actions in real life. I don't know it that answered your question(s) but it's a start lol ....
  19. Thank you chaps. Glad you blokes enjoyed it. If you look closely as Kiffin Rockwell (our American volunteer and hero of the story) finally gets to his airfield there is a reference to "young Rogers" working on the Parasol with a glimpse of its wing upright in a hangar. And indeed Pol is working on the Parasol (yay). Spooky lol. I like throwing in pseudo Hitchcockian references sometimes for a bit of fun. Some people actually pick them up although they can be pretty obscure references. Winston, I use fraps and windows movie maker only. I'm tempted to try some of the nifty editing s/w like Mike used recently which looks very effective. Win movie maker does have limitations. I set fraps to half-size and 25fps and it records pretty close to that mostly. There is a trick though (more like a bug actually) where AA settings either in game or set via your card impacts fraps and frames are really bad like your 8fps. For instance if I set AA to 16 or 4, fraps bums out .... but on 8 AA it's fine. Try experimenting. Also keep AA in-game and AA on your card in sync if possible. 8 works for me well and kills the jaggies effectively.

It is indeed a great movie and one of my faves. That scene of all the old kites flying over Dover and heading across the channel is stunning. It was the French pilot who flew the "demoiselle". The above picture I found by accident while searching for Morane Saulnier info. I think it's incorrectly titled as a Morane Saulnier aircraft. In any event, if it is, it's heavily copied from Santos Dumont's lovely little Demoiselle, the first ultralight of 1908/09 ! The replica in TMMINFM was pretty accurate except for modern safety features (er like ailerons instead of warping for instance). This pic I believe is Santos Dumont flying the real thing circa 1908/09.

Morane Saulnier Type L Parasol it is. A welcome addition to OFF and a very important aircraft it was in the early years. This is the aircraft that Cecil Lewis famously (well for WW1 buffs) wrote about in Sagittarius Rising in which he side-slipped precariously over a hanger on take off and almost ended his career in the RFC before it had begun. It was not a great performer but innovative with the parasol configuration ideal for observation. Here's a bio of Morane & Saulnier .... http://www.ctie.mona...e-saulnier.html Now here's a pic of a real seat of the pants heavier than air flying machine. How'd you like to have a go in this little baby !
  22. You are obviously a man of culture, sensitivity and taste Olham. Good on you for helping out the youngster. I would've done the same because, for some of us, helping out distressed animals is a wonderful experience. I see from the last clip that the European Magpie is very different from the Ozzie version. Pretty cute. On Ravens, I was at the Bird show at Sydneys Zoo many years ago (which included ravens and maggies amongst others) and the trainer showed us ravens were extremely intelligent ..... a piece of meat was suspended in mid-air at the end of a thin rope attached to a tree branch. The Raven cooly sat on the branch and reeled in the rope with his beak, each time holding it in place with one claw so it didn't slip back, until he brought the meat up to the branch and ate it ! The trainer swears he didn't have to teach the bird this trick which is in essence using a tool. That is intelligent.
  23. Over Flanders Fields - Memories

Fantastic Mike ! That s/w is pretty nifty
  24. Mick Mannock

Another great effort Jammer. I know how much fiddling and frustration goes into making any quality vid. Good to see the bright side for a change and Mannock is one of my heroes. A sensitive, intelligent chap who stepped up to the plate bigtime. Well done.
