  1. Armchair Aces updated!

    Hi ojcar I've recently started my first FE2 campaign ever using "Armchair Aces Redux" flying for KEK Nord based at Le Cateau aerodrome, Cambrai, France. The campaign started in August 1915 and I'm quite suprised how much air activity there is so early in the war. I encounter a lot of enemy flights during the missions and I get lots of kills and it's fun missions, but perhaps not that historically accurate? Is it possible to tweak the campaign files to turn down the air activity slightly? What should I modify in that case? Is there any Career Linker for FE2, like the one DOM did for EAW? The EAW Career Linker worked like this: This utility is designed to copy your exact score (kills/missions, rank, points and medals) from a career (or campaign) you completed to another one you are starting. It may also transfer some active pilots from the last career to the new one. Such a program would be nice together with "Armchair Aces Redux" IMHO. Best regards vonOben
  2. Hi VonS Thanks for the update! Have you changed anything that might influence the AI flight member behavior? I've now flown two missions taking place in September 1915 flying the Fokker EI with your Tweaked Flight Models 7.9 and my AI flight members were useless in those missions. They rarely attack when I order them to "attack air" and they rarely fire! The first mission none of the 3 AI's fired a single bullet and the next mission the record was like this: Fired/Hit: 0/0, 12/2, 6/0: So totally they fired 18 rounds and hit with 2 which is 11% hits and better than before but they fire very seldom.   3. Hi vonS Thank you very much for the tweaked FM's! The Fm's is an essential part of every flight sim. I've downloaded your TweakedFlightModels.zip (v 7.5) and added the files to my FE2 mods folder. A few questions and observations: What are the .DS_Store files, I haven't found them in Peter01 FM's? It would be much easier to install if you included aircraft folders in the zip-file IMHO, like in the FM's from Peter01. I've previously installed the "Armchair Aces Redux" campaign and all aircraft and other stuff needed, but I have some discrepancies that I'm uncertain about. I have: AlbatrosD2_Early and AlbatrosD2_Late. You have AlbatrosD2. Is the D2 FM suited for both early and late? I have: FokkerEI You have: FokkerEIa I edited your FM so it could be used for the FokkerEI. I have: FokkerEII You have: FokkerEIIa I edited your FM so it could be used for the FokkerEII. I have: N27_RFC You have: N27 I have: PfalzEIIIO You have: PfalzEIII Nicholas Bell suggested to edit CannonFireAngle and MaxCannonRange in AIRCRAFTAIDATA.INI or in the individual aircraft [AIDATA] section. But in your FM many settings has been removed from AIRCRAFTAIDATA.INI, for example CannonFireAngle and MaxCannonRange. I also checked the FokkerEIa_DATA.INI also but there are not in there either. In my latest campaign mission all three of my AI flight members fired 400 rounds each and none hit their target, so I would like to test Nicholas Bell's suggestions. Your files look a bit strange when opened in Notepad in Windows XP: I'm flying a campaign with the Fokker EI and your FM immediately feels different from the Peter01 FM I used earlier. The Fokker EI has now a strong tendency to roll to the left side because of the propeller rotation/torque. Already at take off you must compensate with the ailerons so you don't tilt over. In flight it's harder to turn left because of this and it's also tricky to have the aircraft stable when firing the gun. But the aircraft feels quicker and not as clumsy as with Peter01 FM where I stalled from time to time. I had big problems recovering from a stall earlier. Please note that I'm a FE2 newbie and the Fokker EI is the only aircraft I've flown in FE2. Is this kind of feedback of any use to you? Cheers vonOben
  4. Some newbie questions

    Hi 1&3. Changing Horizon Distance to Very Far fixed the terrain problem! But it lowers my framerate. I've lowered "Ground objects" settings, but my framerate is still slightly low. I've tested lowering several settings without any frame rate increase. What is the "best" setting to lower to increase framerate and still get decent look in game? 2. I've tested the fe2_zbufferoffset_shaders.zip. The instruction says "Put the shader files (*.fx) into the Terrains\<terrain> directory." I assume this means I'll put it it the Terrains\Flanders for example? I couldn't se any noticeable improvement, but I haven't tweaked the ExternalClipDistMin= value yet. Also are the river tiles rendered more detailed with the ground objects visible in longer distances compared to the surrounding tiles? It looks like that in my install anyway: 4. How do I remove the text on the in-flight map? I saw a screen shot by 33LIMA that looked much better. Mine looks like this: The one posted by 33LIMA: 9. Here' how my Core usage looks after a FE2 mission: The first core is fully used but my second is only used about 30% during the mission. Does that seem to be ok for FE2? My CPU is a AMD Phenom II x2 550BE 3.1 GHz. 10/11.     Hi guys! Thanks for the friendly welcome and all suggestions! Much appreciated! VonS; Yes, I have some old RB3D stuff on my site. 2. Ok, I'll test changing to "high" in the graphics settings instead of "unlimited". 7. I've done all key mapping from within FE2, and everything worked then. Is it better to edit the Default.ini from Notepad when keys don't work? Should i change to different keys test in game and then change back to the keys I want again? 8/10. I've always liked Greybeards RB3D FM's. Can your FM's be used together with Peter01 FM if you haven't a complete set, without affecting the historical balance between different aircrafts? Does your files allow for unjamming or is it perhaps depending on the plane type and if it was historically doable? Stephen1918; I know what FOV means, but in Viewlist.ini there are both FOV= and FOVRate=, so I wonder what is the the difference between FOW= and FOVRate=? And I would like to thank you for all aircraft and other models you have done for FE! I've downloaded quite a lot of them for "Armchair Aces Redux"!     Hi I've bought First Eagles 2 for myself as a Christmas present and is now busy installing all needed stuff for the Armchair Aces Redux campaign. First of all would I like to thank everyone who has contributed to improve FE from the original game release. If it wasn't for all dedicated modders I probably never would have bought the game. Now for two minor questions. According to the Armchair Aces Redux readme file: Hanriot HD1 -by EmID Add Peter01 FM Aviatik C.I - by A Team (add Peter01 FM) I've downloaded a few files with Peter01 FM's, but I can find any Hanriot HD1 There is a FM for Hanriot_HD1_CAM, is it that one I should use?   10. Hi 33LIMA Ok, nice that this has been improved in WOFF! In part 1 of this review you wrote: I could probably improve performance by turning off the high-res aircraft textures and most of all, by reducing the size of the scenery texture (.dds) files in a suitable file editor (as Pat Pattle has reported doing with good results, over at SimHQ).   11. Hi 33LIMA Thank you for the in depth WOFF review! Does the mission debrief in WOFF match what actually happens during missions, which it didn't in OFF? For example a flight member being killed in a mission were not reported as killed in the debrief. Cheers vonOben

  13. Hi 33LIMA Sorry if I gave the impression that I wanted a 'scientific' analysis of aircraft visibility. That was not what I meant. I was only curious to know about your experience to how easy or difficult it was to spot and identify aircraft disregarding AA fire in the mentioned games. It's is an important aspect in flight simulators to be able to fly without visual aids and in OFF I have difficulty to detect flights and also to identify them. Thanks for your information and for the link. I've searched a bit about RoF in offline mode and it seems as only Career and Multiplayer modes cannot function in offline mode. Quick Missions, other single missions and "campaigns" can be played in offline mode and that includes PWCG missions. Cheers vonOben
