Russian planes used during the Afghanistan war
Dave replied to Ice Man's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Here is some good reading. http://www.acig.org/artman/publish/article_337.shtml http://www.acig.org/artman/publish/article_339.shtml the Yak-38 was used too: http://www.acig.org/artman/publish/article_488.shtml During April and May 1980 four Yak-38s and four AV-MF pilots were deployed to Afghanistan as part of a 50-day trial codenamed Romb-1, although the ‘hot and high’ conditions prevented any meaningful combat missions from being undertaken – in total, 12 combat sorties were made, but only two 100-kg bombs could be carried. In the event, any involvement would have been further limited by the ‘near-operational’ nature of the Romb-1 deployment (which also involved the first and third prototype Su-25s). The aircraft involved were not intended to be subject to combat, but rather tested under conditions that simulated the battlefield to a high degree. Despite their official non-operational nature, aircraft involved in the Romb trials could be requested to undertake combat sorties by local divisional commanders, on an ad hoc basis. The Yak-38s and prototype Su-25s operated out of a specially prepared air base near Shindand. Even with a much-reduced fuel and weapons load, the Yak-38 proved incapable of operating during the hot daylight hours (after around 0500 hrs); on the basis of this poor showing, the VVS quickly lost any remaining interest it had in the type. -
Wow talk about ducking the bullet. That'll teach you to online date.

Welcome back, you did just disappear all of a sudden. -
I am flying as a A-4 pilot in the Yom Kippur War. Provided I survive, if I were to use this same pilot in the 82 campaign what aircraft would he progress into?

Su-25 for SFP1 and WoX
Dave replied to Uhu's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
No offense taken. I was just covering my ass because some numb nut will think I am being some greedy tyrant or accuse me of something of the likes. Then they will get all upset and cry over on another forum about how I am being unfair or whatever. I have to do that because everything I say or do gets put under the microscope because I am just an ass to everyone. (So its been said by some former members of CA) So it was a disclaimer of CYA. Good work on the mod. -
Wow Ed that is SOOOOOO 1960's...

So there I was in my Kfir in the 1982 Lebanon War doing an air defense suppression mission. Well we were late to the airfield because we got jumped by some Mig-23's. So we fought our way in, I got 2 and my wingman got the other 2. (AIM-9L's work well) We hit our targets anyway with the CBU's we were carrying. I mean why let good ordinance go to waste. I sent my wingman in first, he expended his bombs and I sent him home because he declared bingo. So I rolled in hot. Hit one ZSU-23 and then hit another while dodging some fire from some BTR's. I got one of those with the last CBU's and rolled off the airfield and headed for home. As I kicked in the burner to roll over and head home I looked out the right side of my canopy. I couldn’t believe it, a whole family of Mig-23's were lined up for landing. 6 in all. I couldn't resist, I pulled back on the stick, turned high and to the right and put myself on the tail end Charlie. I lined up my with my 30mm's and squeezed the trigger. Tail end Charlie exploded in front of me, keeping the momentum, I fired again and got 2 more. Then the AI did something I have never seen it do. They broke. 2 of them peeled off and one was touching down. Never seen that before, most times I see them land and no one even budges. I need to have fraps running next time as I am not sure if that could happen again. Anyway, after I saw them break I realized I was out of ammo and low on gas. So I kicked in the burner to get as much space from them as possible. They seemed to mill around for a bit so I used that to my advantage and escaped. Landed back at base with fumes and ace in a day. Doubt that will happen ever again like that.

Maybe the person who made it will see this and will let you add the LOD's. In my defense I was only following the guidance I was given when it was added to the NF4+ mod. This was not an attempt to be greedy and the likes. The same thing goes for the F-117A in the DS mod. -
Sense of scale
Dave replied to xclusiv8's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I think it has a great sense of scale, especially at 30,000ft and the contrails start. I think it might be your imagination. -

"test pilot" mod?
Dave replied to whiteknight06604's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
For the record Matt, we have a pilot figure with your likeness on it when we are testing planes. Not sure if you want to know how many times he has crashed...... -
Go into your profile, then go to "Edit Profile", from there another screen will pop up. Then go to "Settings", then from there you will see a section called "Manage attachments" There you can delete any attachments you made.

Someone else using your account maybe? That is odd and I will look into it. Also a little politeness goes along way.
