Why isn't the AIM-120 used much?
Dave replied to JG7_X_MAN's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thus you confirmed my arguement. The AMRAAM was the improvement over the AIM-7, and of course a better missile can be made in the future. That goes without saying. I also said bigger has not always been better. Carriers yes, big trucks that guzzle gas, no. I mean we can get into semantics all day. -

Because the AMRAAM can do it better. As I said the AIM-120D is lighter, and can go farther and with AESA radar it cant be jammed. (for now) The USAF IIRC doesn't even using the AIM-7 anymore. Who would want to go backwards? the AIM-120 is a better missile period, you can spew all the logic you want, but its like buying F-4's again when you already have a fleet of F-15's. Bigger is not always better. Never has been. -
To Drop External Tanks, or Not?
Dave replied to Oswald Bastable's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
As a recce pilot, there is no way I see them dropping their tanks for anything. They have to go in fast, slow down, get the pics and then get the hell out of dodge. I would think they need every drop of fuel they can get. -
I was just watching the CBS Early Show and they had this couple that only shops at black owned business'. They said it raises a sense of community of the black people needing to take care of itself. The wife was very militant about it (for lack of a better word) I dont see that, to me that creates a divide. I am not saying you should not honor your race, your heritage, your religion. That is very important, but doesn't something like this just make another division?

Serverandenforcers father was one of the brains behind the AIM-120, he has some great insight on the Slammer. (just a tid bit of trivia for you all) Its all about micro electronics. That is why its lighter and smaller. Nothing was given up. Its prgress of technology. The D model when deployed with have 50% more range, AESA radar, and data linking between missiles. The range will be 120 miles. AIM-7 has been obsolete since the AIM-120 was deployed. When I left Sheppard AFB in 2006 we were no longer teaching AIM-7 maint. It was all AIM-120B/C -
To Drop External Tanks, or Not?
Dave replied to Oswald Bastable's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well I am sure with all the years of actual military flying Jug did, that is SOP, so I would be hard pressed to dispute him. I really think it depends on what is going on. If it's a shoot and scoot, then I do not see them dropping them but if its going to be a furball then yep they have to go. OMG So very true. -

Mixup with german Air Units in '79 SF2E campaign?
Dave replied to Helmut_AUT's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I know there is some good stuff for First Eagles but I can't comment on the quailty of it all because I am just not into it like I am this sim. So anything I say on that would be out of ignorance. I will say this, Column5 does not f*** around when it comes to his NATO Fighters projects. If it doesn't cut the mustard, he wont put it in there. I have been play testing NF4+ and you will get everything from NF 1 to 4 in this mod and its even BETTER. Flying a Tornado F.3 campaign alone is worth the price of admission and its free! -
Right on Rugg. I am a military brat, I grew up around everyone of different colors, race, etc. It was normal. My parents never taught us or even aluded to that any race was inferior. Judge a person on their merrits is how I was raised.

Mixup with german Air Units in '79 SF2E campaign?
Dave replied to Helmut_AUT's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Its all better than stock. You really need to get off that "I dont use mods because of this quailty" thing. You need to see whats out there. Anything by the Mirage Factory is top notch for example. That is just the tip of the iceberg. I can give you a list of mods, that would transform your SF2:E into a whole new sim. People work hard on these things and when you start questioning the mods vs stock, they tend to get a little hostile. This sim revolves around the mods and modders. They put it to a level that most sims to include Falcon 4 can not even touch. Just a nickles worth of advice. Thus like I said, they arent stock. -

http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=2950 Need to be updated for SF2. So I know it doesnt do you much good. As far as modding goes, you are missing out on the best part of this sim. There is easy stuff to install. You just have to take the plunge. When NATO Fighters 4+ comes out though, you will have all you need in one easy to install package. No modding needed. -
