What Causes Some SF1 Planes to Go Blurry
Geary posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Does anyone know what causes some SF1 planes to go blurry in SF1? They look great in SF2. I've updated my video card to the latest drivers. I've tried different resolution settings and screen ratios in the game's options menu. I've changed the skin bmp's resolution both up and down. Still blurry. My Computer stats: - Intel QuadCore i5-2310 3.1GHz CPU - Asus P8H61-M 1155 FC-LGA Socket Intel Sandy Bridge- DT IMC / Cougar Point H61 Chipset - 8GB DDR3-1333 PC3-10600 667MHz RAM (2x4GB) - 2GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 PCI-E Video Card - MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Any ideas? This plane is Wolf's SF1 P-51D-30 from way back when. -

L_L, Good idea. I used to do the same thing, but with updates, they eventually quit working, so I deleted them and moved on. So, maybe finding the *editors that work with the Nov 2008 installs I'll go back to doing that. -

L_L, I usually back up everything multiple times, but seem to have missed older cat extractors. Wrench, If the 08 level extractor is in the SF/WO* tools and Utilites section, I can't find it. Could you please upload it. I reworked another Mustang into the F-51D for my Korea install. Have a ROK and USAAF skin for it, but for Wolf's mustang there's a skin pack with skins of four countries that flew the F-51 in Korea. I want to use it for AI eye candy. -

Gepard, The resolution is set to unlimited. But I experimented with it by changing it to different resolution settings and none of them fixed the blurry problem. Deleting the flightengine.ini file cleared up the blurry problem. I think I placed a third-party flightengine.ini file in there that caused the problem. But now I can't extract a new flightengine.ini file because none of the cat file extractors I have works. -

Deleting the flightengine.ini file cleared up the fuzziness. Now the just look sun faded. Need to figure out how to darken the entire skin. What cat file extractor are you using for SPF1. None of the extractors I have work with the Nov. 2008 SPF1 installs I have. Could also be my operating system. If I can extract the flightengine.ini file again, I'll try your setting on the default .ini file and see what happens. Need a cat file extractor that works first. -

Raven Those are the settings already in my flightengine.ini file but you did bring to mind the blurry problem happened once when I added a Razbam flightengine.ini file that came with one of their Skyraiders packages. Maybe I need to replace it with the default and see what happens??? -

LL, Neither of those textureset settings worked but gave me something to think about and tinker with. Strange that these skins went blurry this way in SP1 and look great in SP2, so I'm also guessing it may have something to do with the way the different games and/or DX versions for XP and Win 7 (64-bt) render the skins. -
Is it possible to have two drop tanks in one plane folder?
Geary replied to Geary's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hex editing is like mixing with black magic, never know what demon you'll conjure up. Guess if I want two drop tanks I'll just stick with two planes for the time being. Thanks. -

Out Files for 3rd Wire SF2 Aircraft
Geary posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Are the Out Files for 3rd Wire SF2 Aircraft available or are they locked in an LOD? I've searched my cat files and haven't found any. I'm looking to re-decal the SF2 Lightning 1 but need to identify some meshes not used on some of the available skins. -

How to Place Decals Tutorial
Geary posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Isn't there a tutorial around here on how to place decals? I could swear I read this in a KB somewhere here, but can't seem to find it now. I want to know how to adjust the Position numbers in the Decals.ini file. I know there are two sets of numbers and one set moves the decals left to right and the other set moves it up and down, but crap the left to right number set is chapping my backside. Anyhelp finding the magic number code book is greatly appreciated. Geary -

How to Place Decals Tutorial
Geary replied to Geary's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
OK, I got the items moved to where I want them, Thanks for your help guys. Now I have a problem with the numbers. I'm pointing to the USMCNum in the decal.ini file to number the planes, but it only uses the number 04 for all the planes. I tried the USNAttackNum and it only used 304 for all the planes. I also tried putting the numbers in a D folder and pointing to the folder and created a numbers.lst file. Still only get the 04 number on all the planes, no matter what number I choose in the hangar. How do I get this to number the planes sequentially? -
How to Place Decals Tutorial
Geary replied to Geary's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Example: I'm trying to move the Stars-and-Bars on the MD-450 to the left, closer to the '04' number on the nose. I also want to move the kill icons above the number to the right under the pilot/canopy. So... any help? -

FC, Got the theory. So, if I want to move a decal to the left, I subtact from the first set of numbers???? To move to the right, I add to the first set of numbers? -
Hi all, I'm running a 5+2 merged install and creating separate installs from that. Every separate install contains all the stock campaigns from all 5+2 games. Is it possible to delete the unnecessary campaings from separate installs without deleting them from the main merged game install? I.E. I have a separate Vietnam install from the 5+2 merged game install. I only want the Vietnam stock campaings in the separate Vietnam install but it contains ALL the merged stock campaigns. Can I delete the SF2E, SF2I, SF2 and SF2NA campaigns from only the Vietnam install? Geary

Updated Stock Campaigns for Updated SF2 Desert Terrain
Geary commented on Piecemeal's file in User Made Campaigns
Great improvements, but if I use these campaigns that fly off a carrier while using the latest version of your Desert3 v1.3 then the carrier is in the desert. If I revert to the first Desert3 v1.2 terrain, the carrier is in the ocean. Any plan to update these campaigns to work with the latest Desert3 v 1.3 terrain version? -
Can Stock Campaigns be deleted from Separate Merged Installs?
Geary replied to Geary's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I must be doing something wrong. I've done as you describe, yet the Burning Sands campaign still shows up in my Vietnam install. The theory sounds right, must be me, my install or my rig. ?? -

Could you please give me an example? For instance, the Burning Sands campaign. -
Hi all, I'm installing some of Ndicki's great BF109's. They require the AV History WW2 guns. The AV WW2 weapons pack has no instructions except for entries in the soundlist.ini which I've accomplished. There are gun folders, tracer .tga files and sound .wav files that need to be placed somewhere, but I can't figure out where. I've placed them in the a dozen different places but can't seem to get it right. Any help to get these great birds firing is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

SEA Camo Skin for TW F-8 Crusader
Geary posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
As my phantasies keep telling me, I'm probably delusional, but I could swear I had a SEA Camo skin for one of the TW F-8 Crusaders. (Yeah, I know the US Navy didn't paint their Crusaders in the SEA camo pattern in Vietnam, hence this post in the What-if forum.) I suspect, if I did have one, I lost it in one of my numerous computer/hard drive crashes over the years. I also suspect it's possible if I had one, it wasn't for this flight sim, or I saw one somewhere, or I dreamed it, confused it with some other skin, etc,... Anyway, if anyone knows of one for the TW F8s, could you please point me in its direction? I appreciate any help offered. Thanks, Geary P.S. Did find this site, http://airlinebuzz.com/forums/showthread.php?29723-FLIGHTS-OF-FANTASY-What-if-the-Vought-F-8-Crusader-had-more-export-sales, which may have fueled my mistaken imagination. -
