Skinning the Hunter

Well putting a decal on the nose gear door works. Now on to the main gear. LloydNB -

I recall some months ago someone(?) posted a WIP for a BR.20. The Piaggio P-108 looks good and I've already started to plan a grey skin for it. I have a nice copy of "Courage Alone, The Italian Airforce 1940-1943", Chris Dunning, Hikoki Publications. LloydNB -

TGA frustrations

The application can be found here. Open the application (I have on my desktop), set it to output 32bit tga files and drag as many filesas you need to convert onto the application. I've never changed more than 50 at a time. http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/archive/ind...hp?t-25433.html LloydNB -
TGA frustrations
LloydNB replied to FastCargo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
FastCargo I use PSP and suffered the yellow tga problem. That's where the tga appear to be a negative and the aircraft turns yellow. There is a nice little utility that I found and posted a link to, both here and at SimHQ. Once you have saved your tgas as uncompressed 24 bit files (with an 8 bit alpha channel) you simply drag them onto the open utility on your desktop. For a standard 128x128 file you will see that the file size changes from 66kb to 65kb. Now your tga will work in the game. You can drag tgas in batches so it quite quick. If I wasn't at work with the boss breathing down my neck I'd find it for you. LloydNB -

LloydNB replied to Bongodriver's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Terrific Craig But I couldn't help thinking while watching it, "I've been hanging around here too long". I kept looking for panel lines and discolouration from fueling the aircraft. Its how I look at aircraft these days -"Now just how would I skin this?" I keep telling my wife that its a harmless obsession. LloydNB -

IDF Bonanza V (1948)
LloydNB posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
File Name: IDF Bonanza V (1948) File Submitter: LloydNB File Submitted: 27 Apr 2008 File Category: Cold War Aircraft Beechcraft Bonanza V35 IDF 1948 The IDF/AF operated 3 Bonanzas from 1948 through to 1952. Two were purchased in South Africa from donation from the local Jewish community and flown overland to Israel. The other was bought in the Netherlands. Initially bombs were dropped by hand out the cargo door but later racks were added. There were even experiments with strafing - a crewman would lie on the floor of the cabin with a machinegun out the cargo door while the pilot circled the target. There are no hardpoints to the model so no bombracks but its fine for recon. ################# The underlying panel lines come from the paint kit for the Beech Bonanza V35B (Flightsim) by Alexandre Cadel. Thanks go to allenjb42 for his help doing the skin for this one. Wing Palette shows a green and tan Bonanza, while the surviving photos show a single mottled colour (tan or green) over the aluminium base from earlier in 1948. I've chosen the latter. Syrian Texan (1948)
LloydNB posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
File Name: Syrian Texan (1948) File Submitter: LloydNB File Submitted: 24 Apr 2008 File Category: British Commonwealth Texan Syrian Air Force 1948 This is a set of decals and a repaint of the SNJ_6 by Rob "Bunyap" McCray. The original Texan skin by Pappychksix. This skin comes from the Harvard/Texan by Alphasim for Flight Simulator X (base textures by Frank Safranek) and a re-paint by Henry William. My contribution has been to adapt it for SFP1 and so is minimal. I've used some poetic licence about the colour scheme. France provided Syria with Canadian built Harvard/Texans shortly after WWII. They were used in 1948 quite successfully in the ground attack role. LloydNB Click here to download this file -

How about adding a Beechcraft Bonanza V for 1948. Two Model 35s were purchased in South Africa and flown to Israel. They were fitted with hardpoints for 50kg bombs. The model may be beta and set up as a "smuggler" but it will do for now. Has anyone an idea of how I should do the camo for it? The only photo I've seen shows a single colour scheme - green? brown? Wings Palette shows a two colour scheme. LloydNB -

Using C-47s as bombers During 1948 the IDF/AF used its C-47s as makeshift bombers – even after the B-17s arrived. I was wondering how this was done. Presumably the bombs were dropped out the cargo door. This is easy to model because you can treat them like paratroopers – ejected out the door a couple of feet before they fall. But how big were the bombs? I have a vision of bombs lined up on the cabin floor before some poor guy, risking life and limb, rolls them to the door and pushes them out. I don’t imagine that it could be safety accomplished with anything larger that 100kg and one at a time. So how many bombs would be carried in a mission? Ten? What do you think? LloydNB -

Veltro Is that a Mk VI Halifax? It looks terrific. Now I know I'm a bit obsessed about reproducing the EAF during 1956 but ...... could I convince you to do a Mk XI (no top turret and radial engines)? Only when you've got a spare week or two. LloydNB -

Using the B-17F model, this represents one of the B-17Gs acquired (without guns) by the IDF/AF in 1948. I'll post it in the next couple of days. LloydNB -

Apologies guys I've been having real problems with this skin. I zip it and it looks fine, but when I upload it to the site the subsequent download is corrupted. I'm trying to fix it. I've changed the format to a rar file and it seems fixed. Please ignore the added version as they are all corrupted. I'll get them removed. LloydNB -
