Airco DH.2 - 29 Squadron, RFC 1916
LloydNB posted a topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2 File Announcements
File Name: Airco DH.2 - 29 Squadron, RFC 1916 File Submitter: LloydNB File Submitted: 9 Mar 2007 File Category: WW1 Aircraft Airco DH.2 29 Squadron, RFC 1916 (Update) This squadron went to France in March 1916 and was the second unit to have the DH.2. It transferred to Nieuport Scouts in March 1917. This skin now includes the wheel colours, and individual aircraft marking for the three flights. The upper wings have been darkened and the struts paint the appropriate grey. Full credit to Aladar for this terrific model. With the exception of the main surfaces, I have retained much of the detail of his original skin. When you can't improve on it, don't try. Enjoy LloydNB Click here to download this file -

File Name: Airco DH.2 - 24 Squadron, RFC 1916 File Submitter: LloydNB File Submitted: 9 Mar 2007 File Category: WW1 Aircraft Airco DH.2 24 Squadron, RFC 1916 24 Squadron was unusual in that it identified individual aircraft by a pattern of coloured stripes on the outer struts. While only A Flight (red and while) is usually depicted in plates, B Flight (black and white) and C Flight (blue and white) are also represented in this skin set. I'm not sure whether this skin will cause problems for older slower computers. There are 8 decals on the struts alone. Full credit to Aladar for this terrific model. I was just wondering whether the lozenge pattern used for German aircraft was standard, in terms of size, or whether it was scaled for the aircraft? I just noticed with the new Zeppelin-Staaken that each lozeange is about half the size of one of the crew figures. However, if you look at a Fokker D.VIII skin each lozenge is about head size. Intuitively I would have thought that a standard pattern was used. Although when applied to a big bomber this might look annoyingly small. Any views? LloydNB

Hi mig14 Have look in the ini file of another aircraft - say the Spad 13. Does it have a "hanger" file line? Without a hanger you can't select FLY or LOADOUT so the aircraft doesn't show up in the list. Try copying the entry from the SPAD 13 into your Salmson2A.ini. It doesn't matter that you get the SPAD 13 bitmap appear. I think that should fix it. But I'm at work and can't check for sure. LloydNB

Fantastic!!! Beautifully detailed models, and look at those skins! I can see more late nights in front of the PC are on the horizon. LloydNB

Any ideas welcome. I'm trying to add stripes to the outer struts of individual aircraft. Each flight of 24 Squadron had different coloured stripes to match the wheel colour. All the colour plates out there seem to represent only A Flight (red and white). In theory it should be possible to add stripes to the struts but I've included every position combination I can think of and no luck. LloydNB

Thanks EmlD Terrific! Problem solved. It was a matter of positioning and I got it all wrong. The fact that it requires 8 decals to cover the four outer struts which might effect frame rates a bit, but who cares! It looks great. LloydNB

EmlD Thanks EmlD I have tired that and tried to skin the RIGHT and LEFT of the strut. I've even tried skinning the FRONT and BACK of the strut but no luck. LloydNB

A Bullet!!! Great work. I really like the earlier WWi aircraft. Have you thought how to reduce the effectiveness of the machinegun due to the deflectors on the props. LloydNB

I love the look of this new plane but I haven't been able to download it yet - even after I went through the registration process. Has any only manage to get it? And does anyone know which squadrons flew the Farman MF.11. I'm pretty sure the RNAS used it but that may have been as a seaplane. Now that's an idea - a seaplane version!!! There is a Shorthorn in a Belgian museum so I suppose the BAM must have flown them. More information would be appreciated. LloydNB

Apologies to all I understand that there have been problems with the zip file so I took this skin down while I fixed things. It should be fine now. Cheers LloydNB -

Nice work Have you tried creating a skin set for the whole squadron? It might require a bit of fiddling around with decals (squadron emblem, side stripe, number code, top stripes, rudder number) to coordinate them so the right combination shows up for the right aircraft but its possible. LloydNB -
