Today, I started up a single mission in FE. Strapped on my SE.5a and got ready to dogfight. I'm flying along, sipping my morning coffee, and saw the strangest thing! I thought maybe the coffe grounds had gone bad and it was making me see things. This is what I saw... I practically choked on my coffee! I had completely forgotten about the L63s I installed. I couldn't resist using the free cam to get a closer look. I had no idea they flew in...pods! It was just too funny watching them peel off to attack! So I shrugged, and like a good pilot of the RFC, I dove in to attack. I managed to get one before the AAA got them all. They sorta' look like REALLY BIG bombs, hehehe. Cheers! ShrikeHawk

Well that's interesting! Liked your screenshots too. Very dramatic. This happened a few more times to me. They fly in large formations (very unhistoric) and then they peel off and dive onto the airfield. Well that was just too much. So I went into L63_Data.ini and changed the primary role from STRIKE to BOMBER. Haven't seen them since then, but I've had them a long time before they showed up. I was looking for a setting that controls formation size. Didn't see one anywhere. Does anyone know if there is something like a "MAX_AIRCRAFT=" setting somewhere? If that could be controlled, then having a singleton or maybe a pair popup during an intercept mission would be pretty cool. Zeppelin hunting could be a pretty exciting mission, especially with a bank of machine-gunners mounted on it.

You got it! I have posted it in the sound mods section. It's made from several different sounds I found on the internet. Cheers!

Breaking part sound for FE
ShrikeHawk posted a topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2 File Announcements
http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...ode=sst&id=4934 File Name: Breaking part sound for FEFile Submitter: ShrikeHawk File Submitted: 8 Jul 2007 File Category: Sound Mods Addon Breaking Sound by ShrikeHawk My intent here was to create a very distinctive ww1 sound for breaking aircraft parts. I wanted to hear a wood-crunching, canvas-ripping, "uh-oh!" kind of sound to accompany a part breaking my own (or better yet, the other guy's) aircraft. Click here to download this file -

Got this working! Now I can 'hear' that wing tearing off! hehehe.

Totally loving the new smoke effects, Laton. It really adds a lot of depth to the game. Nice work!

My mistake Baron. I'm getting my Thirdwire products mixed up. You can do this in WoE, but not in First Eagles.

It's always important to tell your AI to attack, otherwise they don't. My AI wingmen always manage to get one kill if not more. You can also tell them to attack your visual target and then chase after somebody else while they keep that one tied up. I don't expect them to get more than 1 kill (sometimes they get 2 or more), since they are going against equally skilled opponents. But the player always "should" get the lion's share of the kills. Human beings, at this point, are always going to be better pilots than the AI. I'm still really enjoying Edward's terrific scenery. And the smoke effects addon from Laton really gives depth to the combat experience. I just now noticed an AI MOD by bortdafarm that says it will increase the activity of AI. So I think I will be giving that a try too.

I'm flying it now and enjoying it a lot. I'm flying one of my faves, Sopwith Triplane. Thanks Charles!

Indian Terrain
ShrikeHawk posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hey - has anyone out there put together terrain for India? There's a bunch of Indian and Pakistani skins out there. It would be great to build a campaign/Theater specific install covering the 1971 conflict between India and Pakistan. -

Turns out, Deuces was. I finally found an incomplete copy in the terrain downloads here. I am in touch with him now. He has placed it on the backburner for now. I am hoping to use it as is. Thanks for the reply -

Yeah - I saw it earlier and snapped it up immediately. I am building an Israeli installation and was elated to See a Super Mystere! I thought I would never fly one in a sim. It looks great and flys great. Having a good time with this new Sa'ar! ShrikeHawk -
Changing Sounds
ShrikeHawk posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Hi - I have been changing the default sounds on my WoE installation. Actually, it's a copy of the original install. I have changed the mainscreen, singlemission, and loading sounds successfully with music from my own collection. But for some odd reason it's not working for the HangerRadio1.wav sound. Does this particular one have any special needs to work properly? Has anyone else ever changed it successfully? If so, what did you do to make it work? Thanks for any suggestions -
Changing Sounds
ShrikeHawk replied to ShrikeHawk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Gads! That's it! How embarassing! That was the problem, thanks so much. So here's what I'm doing: I'm building a copy of my WoE installation into a Vietnam Era sim. I've made a "Vietnam Era" MainScreen window. Made clips from my music collection for the sounds: - MainScreen = The Grass Roots "Live for Today" - SingleMission = Norman Greenbaum "Spirit in the Sky" - HangarRadio = Ringo Starr "It don't come easy" - Loading = Spencer Davis Group "gimme some loving" For the failure page I plan for: Blind Faith "Can't find my way home" For the success page I plan for: Jimi Hendrix: "Voodoo Child (slight retrun)" I'm having fun getting that "Vietnam feel" into it, hehehe. Thanks again for the help. -

Download an F-4B

Thanks Buff - I think I found this same J at Major Lee's Aerodrome. I had started modifying a F-4C to use as a B with one of the nice F-4B skins that I found. Finally found an F-4B (late) at Mytai's site. Thanks for the assist, though. ShrikeHawk -
Which product to buy...?
ShrikeHawk posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hello all, I am trying to decide which Thirdwire product to buy. I am primarily interested in the many ww2 addons available here. I found a good tuorial explaining how to add ww2 scenery to WoE. And I'm sure adding the aircraft is fairly straightforward. But "First Eagles" looks very compelling. I wonder if I can apply the ww2 addons to FirstEagles instead of WoE?? I'd much rather purchase only one of the products. Like many folks, I want my cake and eat it too, hehehe. Also, I'd be interested in purchasing directly from Thirdwire and then just dowloading the install from their site. Sometimes this kind of install is problematic. Has anyone had trouble installing from the download instead of from the disc? If so, was there a successful way to handle it? Thanks for any suggestions/advice ShrikeHawk
