SF2 Series DACT Reports And Related A2A Discussions (Game only)
ShrikeHawk replied to EricJ's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Great vids, Cougar! I think you're a little too hard on yourself in the first one. Sometimes wingmen get themselves shot down too easily. I think you did much better in the second one. Extending and coming back is an excellent way to fly in the Phantom. -
My god, the plane just disappears! Impressive! :)

SF2 Series DACT Reports And Related A2A Discussions (Game only)

Same scenario. This time I'm flying a Kurnass. The F-5Es are surprisingly good at chewing up F-4s, but that was with the player's flight. I thought while the player is flying the F-4 we could tear through the F-5s like a hot knife through butter. Not so. It's funny how very different the design approach is for both aircraft, yet pitted against each other both sides get their licks in. I lost three F-4s during this mission. A pair of Mig-21s stumbled into the mission after the F-5s were gone. Icing on the cake. -

Lately, I've been trying West fighters versus West fighters. In this one, eight Saudi Arabian F-5Es (no RWR, no decoys) matchup against eight Israeli F-4Es. This combat went like most: victory for the player's F-5s but four at least are always lost. -

Whoa! What skin is that? I love the weathering. -
Awesome. When something ain't broke, don't fix it. From the article: "The A-10's role in the fight against ISIS was highlighted in Operation Tidal Wave II in November, when A-10s combined with AC-130 gunships to destroy 116 ISIS fuel tanker trucks." [my bold] Who can argue with results like that?

Those are some mighty frame-rate friendly LODs... -
Just beautiful! But now here's an odd question: Does that Sea Gladiator have a tailhook?

You know I had forgotten about DACT. I checked it and I see they're posting vids now which is very cool. People will always argue about what plane is best. There was a debate here about the F-8 versus the F-4 and which is best. I stood squarely on the F-8 side with one group, Streakeagle and others were firmly in the F-4 camp. It was because of streakeagle's insistence that the F-4 was a great dogfighter that I decided to work with the F-4 and understand it. Well, I'm much better with the F-4 now. In fact, in a matchup of F-4s versus F-8s I think I would win most of the time with the F-4. Doesn't matter. I still like the F-8 better. I think I'll always prefer the more nimble fighter. Still not sure what you mean by "quest." -

Well, it's a matchup of plane versus plane. Some carry more missiles, some less. Some are faster, some turn better. If you're being "fair" in war, you aren't trying hard enough. In the previous match, both sides had eight fighters. Both sides carried AIM-9E Sidewinders. Both sides boasted "Excellent" pilots. That's about as "fair" as it gets. The "player" side "should" always have the advantage, because the player "should" shoot down the enemy faster than the AI. Thus, giving the player side a numerical advantage as the fight evolves. So, in the interest of study, I switched sides and flew the Mirage III against the Crusader. In the three engagements, it typically went like this. In engagements while flying the Crusader, I lost 2, then 4, and one time 6 wingmen even though my side still won the fight. The Mirage AI was flying well enough to get kills. In three engagements whilst flying the Mirage, I never lost more than 2 wingmen. In the vid, my entire flight returned to base unscathed. With this in mind, I would have to give the nod to the Mirage once again. And by the way, I hope the videos are a little more steady now. My recorder was not recording very well. I switched formats and I now the video should be much smoother. -

Woh! That's major. I always thought Israel did (EDIT: didn't) have intelligence failures. -

How about a What if scenario. How would F-8H Crusaders fare against the Mirage III? I ran lots of missions. Here's how it usually turned out. -

Exactly. The Kfir doesn't even turn as well as the Mirage III, but that's moot since the Kfir gets the AIM-9L. It doesn't need to dogfight. It's why I still like fighting with earlier aircraft. It's puts stress on the art of dogfighting. If you're armed with AIM-9Bs, you'd better learn how to bring guns to bear. Those AIM-9Bs are little better than unguided rockets. -
Oh. That sucks. I didn't know that. That makes three then. *sigh* The rock gods are dying.

Uh oh. First Bowie, now Kantner. Things often happen in threes. Eric Clapton needs to stay indoors.

Since the Hunter seemed a tough opponent, I thought I would fly the Hunter against the Mirage. Both sides had "Excellent" AI pilots. I thought I would win easily with the Hunter. It went like this... I'm only showing the vid where I survived. In most of the engagements it ended like this... The Mirage has an afterburner, the Hunter doesn't. The Mirage has good missiles (AIM-9E), the Hunter has none. The Hunter's turning ability is it's only advantage and it doesn't offset the Mirage's advantages. The Hunter is a terrific aircraft, but technology slowly left it behind, though I think it could win more easily against the Mig-21. To me, it seems the Mirage IIICJ is the best fighter in the skies over Israel in the late sixties. -

I'm thinking offering to pay TK for an exporter is best. If Gmax is the best choice let's do that. I'll toss in $150.00 for the community to get an exporter. Anyone else? -
