The decline and fall of the Flight sim
Dogzero1 replied to MigBuster's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
I want F-16 Combat Pilot (Digital Integration) to be re-done and re-released. Only for my own nostalgia you see. For me it was the best Combat flight sim ever made. You were in a theoretical 3rd world war with the Soviet Union and the front line changed depending on how well you did and the other Squadrons did. You could even get back to base and find it wiped out and you had to divert. Great stuff. Dogzero1. -
The decline and fall of the Flight sim

I'd love a remake of Janes USAF and Janes Israeli Air Force. Quality, deep sims. Loved em. Yes modern sims have become sterile and too technical and lack the depth of the past masters in my opinion. -
A great story teller. He and his novels will be missed. Red Storm Rising is the best book I ever read. I have read all his books, but that one is the best. A sad day indeed. My thoughts are with his family.

Your first combat flight sim...
Dogzero1 replied to Gunrunner's topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
No effort really, it's my hobby. And Win 98 was far better than Win 95 by a long way. Of all the OS's, Windows Millenium was by far the worst. -

Holy thread resurrection Batman. I just managed to get an old PC up and running. It has an early pentium CPU (500MHZ) and an early Nvidia card (3DFX) and 16mb ram. I reformatted the hard drive and its running Windows 98 and Dos 6.22. Just installed Janes USAF and it still looks great. I loved this sim. It was probably the best ever made in my opinion. Just love the radio comms and the missions. I wish I could get USAF working on my current system with Win 7. -
The end of an era. How I always loved sitting backwards (the seats all face the tail) on my way to my 2 tours of Belize. It's always nice to see where you are coming from. Yes fond memories of slim reclining seats with ashtrays and RAF stewardess's serving alcohol on those flights in the late 80's, early 90's. Good old days.

Great stuff. Thanks. -
Hi all, not been flying much recently due to work commitments but when I did, it was the Wings over series. But now I quite fancy having a go on the DCS series. Just to put things in perspective, I own the original Lock on and flaming cliffs add-on and now I have downloaded (and paid for) Black Shark and I have also downloaded the latest DCS World. Now before I start installing, what kind of order do I need here? Do I install my DCS world first? Will my old Lock on and flamin Cliffs 1 work with it? Very confused over this lot. Must be an age thing. Thanks for any help in advance. Dogzero1 out.

DCS install guidance.

Thanks guys. I'll be doing stand alone then. I have Lock on with Flaming Cliffs 1.1b and Black Shark 1. No DCS world for me for the time being. Regards and good flying. -
Anyone joined the Project C.A.R.S community from here? http://www.wmdportal.com/ Looks like it's going to be a great PC sim racer. The community itself is driving (excuse the pun ) the development and it's getting better every week. I love it. Driving the 1977 and 1986 style F1 cars is a blast. Here is a video I made for my own bit of fun Enjoy.

It feels old. Like Rfactor really or any of the other derivatives. I actually prefer the way CARS handles and drives as well as looks too. Each to their own.
-
GTR3 does look promising. As for Rfactor 2..............no thank you. Just tried the beta and it's diabolical and hardly better than the 1st version. For me CARS is miles better as a race sin enthusiast. There are some great vids about it on the Tube. Here is one I knocked up after I did a few races in the 1986 F1 cars (which handle fantastic by the way)

It about £8 quid or 10 euro's mate. It is an investment. You pay, you join in and when the game is released you get it for nothing. You can't beat that. What better way to shape your ideal race sim? Your choice though. Have a nice day.

That is a great find. My favourite US aircraft. -
I know, I know. How awesome is it? It's one of the best bits of music I have ever heard in my life. Glad you like. Happy new year mate.

You might have seen these before. But for those that have not, take a look. Great movies made with our favourite air combat sims. These guys have bucket loads of talent don't they?

IL2 clouds for WOV and WOI

These are great. I have started using them in my Gen 1 Wings Over Vietnam with the superb air and Ground war mod. I think it makes all the difference. Well done sir. -
Series 1 in Windows 7 64-bit
Dogzero1 replied to Geary's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Just verified my installations. Installed to where it wanted to (c:\programmes(x86)\thirdwire\blah blah etc). I have UAC set at it's lowest. My build is a Windows 7 64bit ultimate edition. I have fully modded versions of Wings over Vietnam (prefer gen1 for the air and ground expansion pack with no graphic anomalies), Wings over Korea (SFP1 Mod), Wings over Europe, Wings over Israel. I also have Wings Over Vietnam and Wings over Israel SF2 versions complete with mods. These are all installed where the programme installer put them, ie in the same place as mentioned above. Perhaps I am lucky, but I have absolutely no problems running any of them. Today I have mostly been installing USAF (Janes) to a spare Win98 hard drive that I have bootable. Just need to get USAF Super Pro 9.4 from somewhere now. Happy New year. -

Just booted up my old amiga a1200 and F-16 Combat pilot. Gawd, it looks dated but the gameplay is still fantastic. Bump it up for retro air combat sims. -
