I picked up an Academy F-104G last week. Never really have put much effort in building a model, but I figure I have to start somewhere. So, what are tips to making a model really look good? Should I build it first or paint the pieces first? The decals inculded are of Marinefliegergeschwader 2 and I'm curious as to whether the Marineflieger Starfighters wore any schemes other than the gray on top/white on bottom.

Thanks for the tips! Although I'm not sure what to make of this: Especially living in New England, where both of those could happen on the same day in an hour's notice.

.22s or not, atleast you got to. We have no official marksman course that I know of. At our encampments (CAP's equivilance to Basic Training) cadets may get to use the FATS (Firearms Training Simulator), although that's just to have fun (of which I had to much of with the M249). My squadron had a bivouac (spelt wrong?) where a senior member (adult CAP members) brought along several of his personal firearms (AK-47, AR15) and we went to a range and each got to fire off five rounds of each rifle, along with some rifles the range had.

I knew I was doing the Hero Shot pose wrong!

The courses are selective here too. Review board, then Wing has to choose X number of canidates, then it gets sent down to National at Maxwell, where they make the final decision. But atleast you don't have to pay. Do you guys get anysort of firearms training? We don't.

Seriously? That sucks. I guess I should stop complaining about some of CAP's problems. Civil Air Patrol offers glider and powered flight academies. I haven't done either becuase it's too expensive. We also get five orientation flights in Cessna 172s and 182s, where we have the airplane, minus takeoff, landing (depending on if your pilot is cool or not ) and throttle. And I guess if you want to mention getting near powered aircraft, CAP also offers flight marshall training, at the Oshkosh Airshow, to Cadets.

How FC moves all those weapons around...

I thought he hitched a trailer to the back of a T-38? -
Isn't there a Canadian Air Cadets Program or something similar to that?
-
Thanks guys. I had a great time. The instructors were former or current USAF/USAFR IPs. They were all awesome. Maybe FastCargo (Kowalski) knows some of them. Our flights were named after former flights from a FTS at Moody or Vance? Skitter, Hacker, Gombey and Boysan. I was in Skitter Flight. My class was 09-01.

LOL. I actually had to cross check and make sure I didn't actually say that

To Drop External Tanks, or Not?

That's what they mean when they say that? I thought it meant "Hey dummy, I'm joker here. Send me home!" -

You don't have to understand or play OFF to know what he's talking about...atleast I didn't. The movie is called Downfall and yes, there is an English subtitled version. And, being a Patriots fan, is there any chance you could provide me with a link to the Super Bowl loss flip out? -
Just in case you haven't heard yet, it was announced on there website last night. I think most of the old Third Wire stuff is still there too.

I've been able to download files and they've all come up clean.

Any from the 50th FTS? I see. Now that I think about it, is it even possible to become a T-38 FAIP? Is being a FAIP a bad thing? Is that done during IFF?
-
Thanks for the links to the books there, FC. I'm in need of a new book...or three. I wish the model shop near my town didn't burn down. They might have been able to get those 38s. I'll use ebay, then. Now, when you say you have some patches, FC... 4,000 hours in T-38s? Jeez someone must have started out as a FAIP to rack up that many. I have a couple questions about the T-38 right now actually. Are the T-38s used for IFF Training basic T-38Cs or are they modified in any way? Or even AT-38Cs? And my other question, has a bit of a story to it, but, when I was at Columbus, I got to sit in on a surface attack class for two guys who earned Vipers and one who earned Hogs. Anyway, the civilian instructor mentioned that when they go on range they'd have 100 rounds of 20mm and BDU-33s. Are there T-38s doing basic weapons training?

So what's been going on?

What's happened in the Thirdwire world while I was gone at Columbus AFB, staring at T-38Cs (sexjet)? Any new awesome mods? I see that you're all still the same, which is good. (And yes, I'll upload my pictures soon.) -
Well folks, it's my turn to say I'm leaving for a while. Tomorrow I'm leaving for Columbus AFB for a week, and after that, and (hopefully) passing my course, I'll be on Cape Cod for a week of the beach. Yes, I'll take pictures of all the T-38s and T-6s and T-1As that I see. And maybe some of the airliners while I'm waiting at Logan, Charolette, and Birmingham. So yeah, I'll come back with 1GB worth of T-38 pictures. So, I'll see you guys in two weeks

Thanks you guys! See ya!

The Connie's engines had a bad reputation in the early days. -
Well, I suppose it's better than if the Aussies chose a Sukhoi.

Last of the Air Defence Sea Harriers
Viggen replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
You're probably getting it confused with the South African Darter missile, Jedi. Nice to see that the Indian Navy still has their Sea Harriers. The article mentions eight Sea Harriers, but does the Indian Navy have more? -
What is your most formidable opponent?
Viggen replied to guyran's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The change in cannon must be it then. PACMAN, sure, MiGs are easy to toy with in an F-4. But not in a Hunter or F-100.
