Pictures from Swed AF Museum
TX3RN0BILL replied to JonathanRL's topic in Military and General Aviation
Awww, and I was kinda hoping to see the B-17 airliner conversion that was made in Sweden, would have been interesting to see... were some not used by Sweden as bombers as well? I think quite a few turned up there thanks to aviators fed up with the war... Still, great pics!!! Awesome museum indeed! -
Reminds me of a story I read somewhere stating that a certain shade of light blue was the "cheapest paint in the world" according to the Soviet Union which is why it was used for everything from the interior of Hinds to the exterior of Zil trucks...

Rafale wins Indian MMRCA contract
TX3RN0BILL replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
Yeah but Rafale is older, at least considering first flight... which was in 1986 vs Gripen in 1988... -
You're right. It needs to be a penetrating nuke... reminds me of that scene from "Armageddon"... Check it out at 9:30... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnwfHM-20kk&feature=related

Struggling in US, F-35 fighter pushes sales abroad
TX3RN0BILL replied to MAKO69's topic in Military and General Aviation
It could be just my opinion but I think it's an extremely negative thing to have all eggs in the same basket. I think the U.S. airforces (saying it that way to cover the 3 services) were better served in the times when there was more competition in terms of aircraft-manufacturing companies. Lockheed has grown too big for the airforces's own good. I dare not think of how WWII would have been if there was basically only 1 company in the game... Good were the times when Northrop, Grumman, Vought, Republic and McDonnel Douglas existed as strong independent companies... Now the industry really has come to the state that they can't scrap a plane no matter how bad it is just because too much is at stake... NOT a good sign in my book!!! -
Rafale wins Indian MMRCA contract
TX3RN0BILL replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
I personally like the Gripen over the Rafale, but I guess the Gripen's shorter leg must've been a limitation... -
I'm with Typhoid on this one. Definitely go for the nuke. It's got a perfect cover story in place too... can you spell "nuclear accident"? After all, they're saying they're NOT working on a bomb. Well if they can spew that out wanting other people to buy it then the U.S. can pretty much go around saying... "What a dang shame about that nuclear ACCIDENT, tough luck on you Iran..." Me, personally, I'd withdraw all the troops from Afghanistan and then turn that whole span of land from the Persian Gulf to India into a glassy landscape with the help of "mushroom power" - and I don't mean Nintendo has anything to do with it! That would show them radicals how radical the west can be, as well! And as a bonus, the western troops can waltz into Iran and take over their oil business - and secure the Straights of Hormuz once and for all!

I've got a funny issue regarding Anthems... I'm 3/4's german and 1/4 portuguese although I've been born and lived in Portugal all my life so far... so I know both national anthems, the german and the portuguese. I think the vivacity of the theme lies in the melody, not in the lyrics. I find the german national anthem's melody somewhat melodramatic in itself. It is curious though that the portuguese anthem had had it's melody composed by a german - the lyrics though are totally portuguese. And all portuguese sing it with pride because the melody forces us to sing it in an exhalted way - to be honest, I've never heard it being sung in any "lame" way... And I must say I feel proud for both "my countries" whenever I sing the portuguese Anthem!

According to an interview given by portuguese survivors the officers - and I think the captain himself - were all having fun at one of the bars at the moment the ship struck the rocks... The person interviewed was a metal worker used to work in ship construction, and he recognized the impact immediately for what it was - and couldn't believe the bullcrap that was fed to the passengers HALF AN HOUR LATER that it was an electronic problem... The entire assemblage of officers (with exception for the security officer which was the only one which was trying to coordinate something resembling evacuation procedures) should be stuck in the empty fuel tanks and be sent to the bottom of the Med!!!

That's right all you would-be Kirks, Picards, Archers and the eventual Janeways - Star Trek Online is going to go Free 2 Play (with some restrictions) coming January 17th! I for one don't like Star Trek much, I'm a Star Wars fan through and through - meaning that, if possible, I'll try to create a race called the Stormtrooperonians and paint a big fat imperial logo on my Prometheus-class Star-destroyer... Wish me the best of luck!!!

So his roundhouse kick to the face isn't as epic as initially thought? I thought it was all he needed... Guess that myth will finally be busted lol... Still, this poster is best ever - But at least we know why Steven Seagall isn't in it - he's gotta show up in EX3

When Steam showed up it's ended a 5-year-long career of being able to play CS, of course I vowed to never yield to it and haven't yet and won't in the future. I've been perfectly able to entertain myself with games which don't require Steam. For me *puts on sunglasses* the Valve is shut forever!

Dictator fashion will never be the same again without him...

The recent creation of the Tea Party should have given people in the US an eye-opener that there actually might be a possibility to create an alternative to the dual-party system altogether. It seems there's a lot of "critical mass" available to possibly create a third MAJOR party of the center which may very well provide the balance between either - after all, the more competition there is, the more the people have to gain... So, as Jug said it, for all of you who want to change, don't just stand there and moan and bitch around - DO SOMETHING! At least it's possible in the US because you have critical mass! In my country unfortunately I consider the youth lost because they have no interest in politics whatsoever, and since we've become a democratic republic, politicians themselves made everything they could to assure that they're "first-rate citizens" (SERIOUSLY!!!) compared to all other citizens, and the problem is that the people accepted that, and of course the government did it's best to not encourage or foster critical political thought in education, and promotes dumbing down of the collective IQ of the portuguese people, so there you have it - use the freedom in your country and your proud people to make a change!!! Be the example for the rest of the world's democracies (or at least the western democracies), just like Egypt was for the north african and middle-eastern countries recently!!!

How many of you play IL-2?
TX3RN0BILL replied to RogerSmith's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
I played it until I got a new controller, Thrustmaster HOTAS X - somehow the rudder is inverted and there's no way to set it straight, is there? And it's not a hardware problem because with WOE it works just fine! -
What I really can't dig with the Apple is their ridiculously overpriced hardware compared to the competition, which is why I'm planning on building a Hackintosh (will purchase the original Snow Leopard OS though), which I will need for professional reasons. I agree that Jobs was Apple's Bill Gates and both seem to be always binding people to their products in the wrong way, at least they're giving reason for other more accessible systems, be it software or hardware, to exist. I'm wondering what will become of Apple now that Jobs is definitely gone (Bill Gates can always return to Micro$oft). Still, it's a shame he had to go the way he did, due to a still not 100%-surely treatable disease... RIP.

Taking into account that time goes forward everywhere I don't believe it's possible to go back in time as well - it is however possible to give the impression to be in more than one place at a time if one is traveling constantly at ultra-high speed...

And here I thought the brits would use the opportunity of being involved in that libyan mess to make an "oops - collateral damage" load-dropping on that guy's house... would serve as proverbial justice I think... although the general oppinion here seems to let him live longer in suffering on this plain of existence, as if there isn't any more coming at him lol...

Hiding in holes doesn't work too well as Saddam has proven, what really works is hiding in improbable places and living normally, like Bin Laden and Radovan Karadzic... Now, where would a fashionista super-star dictator go and not be noted in spite of his eccentricity? With him out of the picture, the world's fashion designers will have lost an inspiration... So see if you can capture him alive and maintain him under creative and inspirational captivity! J/K Erm, was his female bodyguard entourage hot? I don't remember seeing them...

I prefer the one from "Gone in 60 seconds"... with Sway included for "servicing"!!!
