I've only read Zahn's novels, and not all of them - still have to get my hands on "Survivor's Quest" and "Allegiance"... When George Lucas made known that he wouldn't make episodes VII, VIII and IX, there was a poll at Starwars.com as to which stories should be picked to succeed the original master's one, and Timothy Zahn's stories won that poll I think... He's really good... It was a shame that Thrawn's clone was killed in "Vision of the Future", his character is definitely my favourite...

Oh well, seems that at least one OHP, USS Simpson (FFG-56, which also participated in Operation Praying Mantis), was retrofitted with two of the Mk 38 25mm Bushmaster cannons...

I mostly refer to the OHP because it is also one of the most-used vessels to protect civilian shipping in convoys passing through there, not always do those convoys have the luxury of having destroyers and cruisers as part of the escort... and the OHP only carry about 4 x .50 cals, 1 Vulcan Phalanx and 1 OTO Melara 76mm... I bet the iranian navy can muster more speedboats as targets than just those 5 that arrived at the scene... and the US Navy not having opened fire on them before they got that close to them, the window of effective fire is very small, especially with an ambundance of targets, when it's the targets that have the element of surprise... Bah, maybe all that's needed is just a second Operation Praying Mantis...

I know what they're capable of, just the way they're put on the Ol.Hazard Perry frigates makes me wonder if they'd be enough to protect it, and those crew-served Bushmaster mounts wouldn't look too bad on the frigates, which don't have much in terms of armor btw, so it could come in handy... Edit: And I checked, the Oliver Hazard Perrys still only have 1 Vulcan Phalanx and 1 OTO Melara 76mm as surface guns - dunno what the .50 cals are for though, swatting flies? Edit 2: *GHASP* Seems the Irans reverse-engineered the OTO Melara and are building some of their own?!?

Whoa, hadn't seen that movie yet... jeez... creepy just looking at how those gunboats circled the ships, like Piranhas... I wonder if the Navy will want to put some 25mm Bushmasters on the Oliver Hazard Perrys as well, just in case (the Ticonderoga and Arleigh Burke have them I think) - the single Vulcan Phalanx seems to be placed aptly for missile interception, and the OTO Melara and 50.cals don't seem to be the right tools for the job...

In the reviews I've read so far of it it's said that there is documentation available for download for it but I haven't spotted any yet, does anybody know of any online manuals available for downloading? I've read about 44-pages-long PDFs being available and tutorials, but haven't found much besides the demo tutorial, is the manual included in the download, or available elsewhere for download?

AFAIK there have been more brands that brought out MD players, and as far as Betacam goes, most of the betacam equipment my company works with is from Thompson, and we also have some Ampex Betacam readers, so it's not so closely-held to the chest as you might think... Nowadays, if a brand doesn't try to broaden it's technology through offers of other companies, I don't think it can succeed as expected commercially...

This Christmas was pretty much low-key with the biggest present still unaccounted for - I hope it'll be shipped from Germany soon - an Eizo HD2441W-WS 24in TFT screen. Other than that, also the usual socks and underwear, some new literature, and well - some dough to spend on gifts of my own choice... Oh well, time to start the new year with renewed vigor (and a new hard disk) - btw does anybody know of any external adaptors that can connect SATA-2 and IDE HDDs to the PC via Firewire?

And here I thought that anything could fly given sufficient propulsion...
