My wonder is why they didn't release just VBS2 to stay above water, making BIS also responsible for VBS2 and not only BIA, so that both could profit, and later, when they'd finally get everything right, get one great ArmA (I believe most people wouldn't have minded waiting instead of getting a half-finished product), instead of ArmA + ArmA2... Surely with the success of VBS, VBS2 would also be a success, but as it is, the ArmA community feels like it's a guinea pig to see if the tech works for VBS, instead of the other way around... I wonder which clients, VBS or OFP, are more important to BIS, since they can say all they want that VBS is from BIA and not BIS, if there were no BIS then there wouldn't be any VBS for sure...

Rhodite, OFP and ArmA are two things that aren't the same... OFP was well-made and whatever BIS couldn't do, the community made the effort to make better and it deserved its many awards... no matter how rough that gem was at the beguinning. ArmA, on the contrary, was a disappointment when it first came out (worst of all, the czech/german release fiasco as it was already acknowledged by BIS as being rushed), the fact that some of the bugs from OFP had been brought to ArmA, some stuff which was good in OFP was made worse in ArmA, and to top it all off, BIS now announced ArmA 2 before having fixed ArmA to any large extent... and I'm not even going to comment about VBS... All in all it's a shame because patch 1.09 sounds like it'll be probably the last patch that ArmA will receive, and even that doesn't sound like it'll solve half of the worst problems that game suffers from (the fixed-plane flight model being IMHO the one that puts me off the most, taking into account it was fully functional in OFP for its purpouse) ... And now it seems that the modding community is largely holding back, awaiting ArmA 2 to be what everybody expected ArmA to be, and with reason, taking into account all the time that passed between OFP: Resistance's release and ArmA's release...

Well, bring on the truly innovative new tech, like naval rail guns! All the rest is more or better of the same, but I'd like some new weaponry to toy with in Cold War 2 scenarios... :nyam:

I've been waiting like forever now for the Italeri 1/72 MiG-37 Ferret-B to come through... Ordered it at the end of July... at the shop they told me initially it would only take a couple of weeks... Damn... :angry2: Oh well, in the mean time I'll probably entertain myself with a couple of Gundam Seed 1/144 High-Grade models I've still there waiting for me in their boxes... And order a couple of new ones through another local shop I've found... :nyam:

I've heard the russians were developing some kind of rocket torpedos allegedly called something like "shkval", meaning "squall", and it's supposed to be the s**te... If russian subs carrying such torpedos got near a carrier group and would be able to lock onto the carrier... Man... those things are supposedly able to carry nuclear warheads even...

Nice nose-arts, Fates! I liked the "Freedom will endure" alot... Curiously, during my 2001 trip to N.Y., after a helicopter ride, I decided to buy a poster with the Twin Towers... had the choice between a daylight and a night-time poster... I chose the night-time one, and it is hanging in a frame above my bed since I got home from that trip...

Thanks, FalconCAF! I've recently also discovered, through a friend of mine, a store that sells such kits, I'll have to order them and it'll take a while for them to arrive I guess, but I hope I'll get them ASAP! Also, Paul, I'm going for the 1/144 High-grade because I already have 2 that are of that scale and quality (the Buster Gundam and the Duel Gundam Assault Shroud)... So I'd like to keep everything the same, and the HG 1/144 also has a wider range of gundams than the master-grade 1/100...

Ubisoft, the publisher of Far-Cry from developer CryTek, had announced a sequel to the original hit game, using a developed version of the original's engine (which apparently it had gotten hold of through the contract of the original game) and will make Far Cry 2... Check out this amazing long video showing off the pre-alpha build of Far Cry 2

I remember being on the Twin Towers, 1 month and 1 week before it happened... I was filming for more than half an hour, covering the fall of dusk... I remember saying to myself: "Stop filming, next time you're in N.Y. the Towers will still be here!". Well, whaddayaknow, I visited N.Y. in 2002 again and all that was left was Ground Zero... Curiously, there were hardly any tourists, but a reporter and a cameraman overheard me talking to my father in german, and they came over begging us to make an interview since there was nobody else there talking german, so I got to be in front of the camera... But I didn't enjoy it since it brought back memories from seeing it happen on T.V., I actually felt myself falling those 400 meters when the tower came down...

Hmm, serão talvez tanques de combustivel? O F-16 também parece ter tanques de combustivel esguios colados ao corpo do avião... Será?

I ordered mine more than a month ago! Just waiting it for me to arrive... As for the events themselves, well, I just hope this gets Thirdwire thinking of making a near-future sequel for WoE...

Well, I must admit that the U.S. was the last country I'd expect such an incident from... Although in Russia I bet if it happened people wouldn't be court-martialed, they would "commit suicide", I bet... And the world would never know 'cause I bet something like that would never be publicized in any media...

USAFMTL, I think you're being harsh and a little bit out of context. Any other president of the US would have been under the same pressure to drastically reduce military spending because the Cold War was over and there simply was no justification in the 90s to keep spending on a military focused on fighting a Cold War. Wether that decision was correct or not remains to be seen (thanks to Putin's Russia, the world's history books may very well watch with disdain the reduction of the armed forces, even if the peace period between cold wars would only be like 20-25 years) - but back then, everybody was happy that the US won, and started to see that other areas could do well with money being given to a military ready to fight a war that actually didn't happen, so I don't think blaming Clinton for it is fair, if Bush had been in the hot seat, it would have been his signatures on the same pieces of paper...

Even better, there very well may not have been a 9/11!!!

Went missing in Nevada? Well, by now he'll be in a galaxy far, far away... I bet a beer that he's been abducted by the little green men from the red planet of... J/k. Hope he comes back with a story to make a couple of more mills selling books, movies etc etc etc...

Another nice store, Paul, but unfortunately it too doesn't ship to Europe, it ships to the U.S. and Canada only...

I read in the "Aces of the Pacific" manual that George Bush Senior was a pilot of a Grumman Avenger torpedo bomber, and that he had to bail out too... Shot down by AAA... but not killed... I wondered what had happened if he'd been sent to Davy Jones's locker... Since the incident was before the existence of George W. Bush...

Great Store, FalconCAF, unfortunately, they don't seem to ship to Europe... And my past experience tells me it's a hit-or-miss afair getting things past customs service in Portugal...

Heheh, infelizmente n vi a Gisele Bündchen em lado nenhum, Silverbolt... Não seja egoísta, hem! Tou brincando...

Chavez vows revenge for Falklands war
TX3RN0BILL replied to Silverbolt's topic in Military and General Aviation
Well, the sentence "El pueblo unido jamas sera vencido" strikes a chord in south america... And for all that he's doing, I don't think that Chavez is as bad as Robert Mugabe, now THAT's a true gorilla! -

Chavez vows revenge for Falklands war
TX3RN0BILL replied to Silverbolt's topic in Military and General Aviation
I learned in college that America had always practiced a policy of control over its neighbouring countries (well, they must think Canada of being harmless) and in the past imposed and supported dictatorships which were friendly to the US, in central and south America. This whole Chavez thing is really a retribution for that policy of domination, and finds supporters amongst countries whose rulers are disappointed with lack of support from the US to promote their development. Chavez apparently saw how Castro managed to run a country under Fidel's view of a social state, and seems to try to outdo him with Venezuela, and that "power to the people" slogan always sounded attractive in the countries in South America where most of the wealth is held by a very small minority of the population, so Chavez's call for socialism seems appealing to others as well. Who knows, maybe we'll see a Socialist South American Union? But the notion that they would be able to sink the british fleet just like that... Well, the british fleet is somewhat ageing, due to the lack of funds for replacement ships, but if faced with war, I bet the british will push their weight around and do whatever it would take to hold their ground, in defence of the Falklands or whatever... In terms of naval capabilities I think the british submarines alone could rule the waters... Whereas admittedly the Harriers are no match for Flankers... The RN really would need the F-35s as soon as possible I guess if they would want to stand a chance in the air...
