Having trouble when Im up against the brilliant Su-27 in the NF4 86 campaign. Decided to knock together a simple INI mission to put myself in the cockpit against a CF-18 and attempt to find weaknesses..... And so It begins..... close call... After around 10 mins of very high g manouvering managed to get into a lead shooting position and scored a succesfull kill.... Celebrating.... -
I Played the demo and found it completely unflyable using the ps3 controller with flight model on hard. May buy the game however as the flightstick I use for my PC is compatible with ps3 apparently. The graphics on it are truly amazing though. Mike

My final mission for the VF-96 Fighting Falcons. I was hit by an R3S Fired from a MiG-21 shortly after these shots and KIA. So ends my attempt at DiD flying in SF2:V after only 9 missions!!!. Oh well time for my next try. Perfect photo op.... Fox one! One dead MiG.. -
DiD Thirdwire
MaverickMike posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
With the addition of the guys from OFF here at combatace I like reading some of their forum topics. One topic or phrase that I noticed was the DiD method of playing OFF. Basically DiD for those of you that didn't know means Dead is Dead i.e. any pilot you are flying with at that particular time, who gets shot down and is KIA, stays KIA. Meaning you usually have to start the campaign over. So I decided that was how I was going to play the thirdwire titles from now on, no reflies or restarting missions when things get hairy! Im currently flying as a pilot during Operation Rolling Thunder for the VF-96 'Fighting Falcons' of the U.S. Navy (SF2:V.with the all in one mod installed) IMHO it makes the game that much more immersive. Knowing that your pilots life could end in the blink of an eye (which has happened to me 3 times as I play with all settings on hard) makes you much more careful and gives you a much better idea of what the guys who really done it must have gone through. So the point im trying to get at I guess is the versatility of these (so called) 'lite-sims'. TK is no doubt a genius at work and I think that hes created a very solid fanbase simply because of the fact that you can fly exactly how YOU want to fly. I think you get ,out of the experience, what your prepared to put into it. In other words you can make these sims as immersive as you want them to be. DiD being just one of many ways to increase or decrease the immersion levels to your convenience. As a final thought does anyone else play the games in a similair manner? Or have any other ways to make the game that bit more immersive? Just my two pence worth Mike -
Help with a SF2:V mod
MaverickMike posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I recently downloaded and installed v2 of the ground war enhancment pack for SF2:V. After flying around for a while in the rolling thunder campaign ive realised that there are no MiG-17s appearing. Other flights call out bogeys and im able to cycle through them using f6 but they are not there. Is this a missing lod or ini problem? Or do I need to uninstall and re-install everything? Cheers Mike -
Help with a SF2:V mod
MaverickMike replied to MaverickMike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
That file appears to have solved the problem. The MiGs are now showing up and killing my squadron members Thanks for your help mate. By the way its an excellent mod. I like the fact that the flak is much more deadly than vanilla SF2:V. Much harder to get out of the North unscathed now... Cheers Mike -
Out of interest is there a time limit to loading nukes? And roughly how long does it take to load one of these? Mike

Help with a SF2:V mod

Its a standalone install. Although I do have the other two second gen titles. Maybe a combined install will solve the problem? Mike -
Help with a SF2:V mod

They are not showing up in campaign or single missions. Im not much of an ini guru but I had a look at it and it seems fine. Mike -

Couple of shots from a strike mission downtown. The AAA was devastating and i lost my wingman and no3 and was also damaged myself. It makes it that much more rewarding getting back to base after flying through that sh*t Close call.... RTB'ing -
Quick quetion
MaverickMike posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Just wondering if someone can help out on a quick question I have. With the introduction of the 'mod' folder for the second gen sims I was just wondering if I was to delete this folder would the game return to vanilla. I.e. any mods I have put in myself will be removed and the game will be back as a stock game? If this is true then its alot easier than uninstalling and reinstalling the game. Cheers Mikr -

Populating the stock Airbases
MaverickMike replied to PureBlue's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
That looks awesome. Out of interest have you flown a mission from an airbase like this yet? If so did it have any noticeable affect on your FPS? Cheers Mike -
Yes you can use these settings in the demo but when i stuck it on the hardest it was impossible to fly with the PS3 controller. Kept going into spins and stalls whenever i tried a slight turn. As I don't have a joystick for the PS3 ill be sticking to using flight sims on my pc. I think ill be getting Il2 1946 though. Read loads of good reviews and comments etc. Thanks for your help guys Mike P.S. as an afterthought does it run ok on vista 64?

Modern UK terrain?
MaverickMike replied to mppd's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
This is looking awesome. I like the sound of the campaign too. Keep up the good work mate -
A 'Life' sentence here in the UK is a sentence of 25 years. Don't ask me why its called life when your serving but a fraction of what is conceived to be a lifetime. IMHO life should mean life. Mike

Exactly right. You can guarantee that if the roles where reversed, the terrorists would'nt show any compassion towards a normal person. This guy should rot in a solitary cell until the day he dies. Then he has hell to look forward to. Mike

A-4E Tasked with a strike mission in a vietcong base. The amount AA fire was incredible and I really don't know how I wasn't hit.... Immersion at its peak!!!! -
That just about sums it up. As I said earlier the justice system in the UK is totally F*cked up. As an example I watched a program following police around last night and they arrested a young man (20 years old) for the 27th time for stealing vehicles and various other motor offences. He was released again without charge, only to go an steal another car but this time he mowed down a mother and child in the street while attempting to get away. It didnt say how long he was sent away for however Mike

Yup your right. fired all 4 winders at one MiG and they all missed. Had better luck with the trusty 20mm though
